    Another juicy mod to add to the "to do" list. Extremely helpful and very clear instructions there. Thanks guys. Top vid 👍

    Awesome video thanks. I have traction control in my D2 so will this cause any issues working alongside traction control

    Hi good step by step video.. Well explained. I've got a 2002 Land Rover discovery 2 td5 ES but automatic. Is this a similar procedure and have you got a video to show how. Thanks again Simon

      The fitting is very similar however the top plate is diffirent. But before you strip all the centre down, the 2000-2004 is a vague period where it was hit and miss on wethher you got a diff lock box or not. I would climb under the truck in the safest way using jacks and stands or a set of ramps and check above the front output for the selector. 👍

      Okay yes.. it has a 4inch (total) lift so should be easier. I take it it won't be a visual thing it's feeling for the connection. Thanks very helpful.

      There IS a n auto box on ebay at the moment with a difflock that is a good price but I think its a bigger job of course.

    • @HomoTheBeast

      Certainly is a bigger job

    HI mate. I jsut sourced one of these from a d1 for my d2. the one I got doesnt have the gear shifter top hat bit. I have the shell but not the shifter with springs etc. Is that interchangeable with whats in the d2?

      Can you message our facebook page with some pictures so he can have a look? Also, is it manual or auto?

    Excellent video mate...I previously had a 300 TDi Commercial and it would go anywhere... Now just got myself a 1999 TD5 from a friend of mine and I plan on doing this mod as soon a I can find the time....
    The lack of a Diff lock on the TD5 didnt sit well with me ...traction control or not...and now you have made the job easy to follow and a little less scary :-)
    Just have to make sure I dont drop something down inside the gearbox....which I already know Im going to ...I know it lol.
    Thanks

      Thanks for dropping a comment dude. Hope you do it ok and manage not to drop anything in the gearbox 🙈 keep us updated on your progress with it 👍

    Thanks for this information guys but i need to get one thing clear, doesnt this upgrade damage the electrics of the car and does Hill descent control still work after the procedure and does a stock TD5 only have LOW and HIGH low range gears as compared to a 300 TDi R380 that actually have a physical Differential Lock lever. Otherwise this adds to the knowledge i have on land rovers i own a defender 300 tdi in Uganda, its my life!

    • @HomoTheBeast
      @HomoTheBeast  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Early td5s and v8 were fitted with the same r380 box’s then arround 2000 they took the diff lock box out. And in 2003 it came back. Hill decent and traction control still work it does nothing to the Landrover except allow you to select centre diff lock if your transfer box has the required option , we have done this mod to a lot of d2’s and not had any problems what so ever and traction control and hill decent work along side the diff lock as if you have the diff lock box there all wired in and there is a switch that’s wired to the ecu to tell the ecu diff lock is connected

    Hi Guys
    Thanks for the great video, it helps a lot!
    Just one thing I need some help with, hopefully not too silly question....on the original TD5 setup there is a rubber boot cable tied to a “collar” to cover the bias plate & springs while on the 300 tdi version that “collar” is missing but there is a metal cover instead of the rubber ( it doesn’t show on your vid.)
    I would like to cover the bias area with sometning to add some protection from water etc, but I can’t really cable tie the TD5 style rubber boot to anything...
    Would the metal cover from the 300tdi fit under the TD5’s cover plate ( the riveted bit...) ?
    Thanks in advance! ( sorry, my vocabulary is not too technical, but I’m sure you’ll know what I mean ;) )

    • @HomoTheBeast
      @HomoTheBeast  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      From memory the metal box plate can be made to fit but the seal on the top of it. It’s useless so if you do some serious off-roading and wading It just traps water and dirt in there. On my truck if doesn’t have the rubber one or the metal one on any more.

    • @tigdrecardoso
      @tigdrecardoso ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh you are right, its missing the metal cover. I have it on mine but the folks that made this "upgrade" removed the Td5 original plate and used like 3mm rubber to cover the whole hole instead of cutting the original plate. I'm purchasing now a used Td5 cover plate and hopping that the metal cover fits under the Td5 plate. Best regards

    What age d2s have the appropriate transfer box to do this mod??

    • @HomoTheBeast
      @HomoTheBeast  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pre 2000 But some after 2000 have them as they used up stock. They brought the option back in 2004.

  • @welldone2016

    Does it mean that all gearboxes on the Disco 2 are equipt with a diff lock ? You just add a lever control from a Model with Diff lock, that's all ?

    • @pyrox41
      @pyrox41 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only in the case of 2002 models, like mine, that didnt come with any CDL and need to swap out the transfer. But it also had the tuneable ECU, bigger cooler, p16 engine and so on so good trade off ;)

    So what is the front to rear ratio if one doesn't have CDL?I do slight off roading with mine.2 inch lift kit 31 inch tires...it does the job.TC is great!Now that iv seen that mod I want it!!!:-(..So the ratio? Anybody?

    • @HomoTheBeast
      @HomoTheBeast  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing changes if you have a transfer box with diff lock. Nothing inside is different, all gear ratios are the same exept it has the lock. If the transfer box has the diff Lock selector “the nipple sticking up with a M.8 thread “ then all you need are the bits in this video 👍

    • @Miniorpernik
      @Miniorpernik 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HomoTheBeast thank you for the info.the video is very useful .What i meant to ask was how does the transfer box split torque if it is not CDL fitted.CDL would be 50/50 front to rear.MB ml w163 runs at 40/60 front to rear before u lock the central diff in which case it is 50/50 torque distribution.

    • @HomoTheBeast
      @HomoTheBeast  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The way it works is exactly the same as a differential. It splits the power to the wheels with less resistance hence why abs is fitted to slow down the spinning wheels thus making the wheels with grip turn. Without diff lock it means that in theory in bad conditions you could have 3 wheels spinning and only have grip on one wheel on one axle , With cdl it means the transfer box is locked ( centre differential). So it means that you will have in very bad contortions 1 wheel on the front axle spinning and 1 wheel on the rear. And with abs aswell it makes them almost unstoppable
      But note abs and cdl only work if your landrover was fitted with the cdl box from factory as it has the relevant electrics and sensors in the box
      If you fit a r380 box from a 300tdi do not connect the switches as then when in lock it turns off tc
