  • A Land Rover Discovery 1 and Discovery 2A battle it out in Appin.
    The Disco 1 is a 200 series V8 2 door Rossignol edition, and the Disco 2 is a facelift update 2a TD5.
    The two Land Rover Discoverys tackle some large steps at Sawpit Gully. A few river crossings on the Georges River. Some off camber situations and large ruts on a still wet day out at Appin.

    The discovery driver 1 driving in a professional manner, and the other with a lot of aggressive voila the problem

    • @lror

      Taha Zeus Driver experience and skill has a lot to do with it.

    • @checa160
      @checa160 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think that, even if the Disco 2 driver has less experience than the other one, the way he drives that car is not only a question of experience.
      It seems a question of 'experience with a disco 2 and tbe way to use its traction control when not having central diff lock and no lockers in the axles'. The disco one with the lockers is a lot smoother. With the disco 2 you have to wait until the ecu manages the hdc/abs/tc system to help you to go forward. And that is agressive 'per se'.
      Maybe the deiver could be smoother in this sense waiting for the machine to work. And maybe he could choose some different lines.
      But in my opinion he's doing ok and he will improve with lockers.
      Cheers

      Taha Zeus Taha Zeus the traction control system requires more revs and wheel spin for the abs sensors to pick up a difference in wheel speed. So it’s a lot easier to take it more gentle with the discovery 1. You can see at about 5.55 where the disco 2 is just spinning it’s wheels then suddenly it moves.

    • @raymondlogister6828
      @raymondlogister6828 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ashcroft lockers front and rear with the heavy duty axels front and rear and compressor and instal, everything complete. Cost in the netherlands €4000,-- Maybe in Australie cheaper?

    • @lror
      @lror  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lockers are about $1200 each give or take a couple of hundred depending which one you went for. Then there's setup cost if your not doing it yourself and that's about $400-$500 each. You definitely want hd axles if your upsizing tyres and they are about $1400 front and rear. Again add fitment cost if your not doing it yourself. Then if your planning on doing the harder trails constantly Ashcroft cv's are a good idea. They'll set you back about $1400 local but a lot cheaper if you get them direct from the UK.

    Nice Video, but it's comparing apples with oranges. The disco 1 3.9 V8 is a beast. The disco 2 4.0 V8 is a beast. The TD5 motor over all is great! but you cannot compare a disco 1 to a disco 2. Disco 1 has diff lock, Disco 2 has the shitiest traction control system ever. I owned a disco 1 3.9 V8 Manual, Disco 1 3.9 V8 Auto, Disco 2 4.0 V8 Auto (lovely motor, shit traction control system), defender 110 csw 300tdi and defender 130 td5. @LROR what tyre size is the D1 running? And with what gear ratios is it equipped for the main gearbox, transfer case and differentials?

    • @lror
      @lror  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      D1 is running 35x12.5 tyres on beadlocks. Diffs were 4.43 and tbh i cant remember if the 49% tc reduction gears were in at that time or not. If i had to guess i think they weren't in at that time.

    disco 1 is 200 series , err no its not, if you knew anything at all about them you would know that the 200 series is the engine. a 200 series is the early 2 cylinder 2.4litre diesel, ..the series 1 disco is just a 3.5v8, might even have been upgraded to the 3.9 or 4.2. infact could be the 5 litre ? who knows.. it dont sound like the original rover engine so definite exhaust difference.

    • @lror
      @lror  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      phill downes i never knew a 200 series is an engine. I do know of a 200tdi engine though.
      Its also common to refer to a series 1 disco pre update (pre 94) as a 200 series while a post update D1 as a 300 series. Thank you for commenting and watching our video 👍

    Engage the diff lock on the D2 and it be just as good if not better than the D1. Clip the diff lock sensor to the ABS module so it doesn't disable the traction control when in diff lock and it'll be even better. ;)

    • @lror
      @lror  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Its a d2a so it has cdl and doesnt disengage traction control when locked.

    • @Kimck098
      @Kimck098 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      LROR Land Rovers Off Road depends on the year and model. Some of these didn't have cdl fitted and some just didn't have the linkage so relied purely on the traction control
      As for the traction control disabling, yes it does. Again, depending on model year. But you will usually see it when the ignition is switched off and on again when diff lock is engaged.
