You should have lubricated your rollers prior to filming the video so that people can actually hear the difference. You also have a lot of vibration from the motor that can be isolated with your LiftMaster.
To make a better comparison: you could have disconnected the door opener drive from the actual do: all door have a release like that for when power goes out and you need to raise the door by hand. That would have made a power straightforward belt vs chain head to head.
Aslong as you keep a newer chain drive opener lubricated about once a year, they are just as quiet as a belt drive unit and will last longer before repairs are needed.
Actually luke that looks like a 3265 because of the string that is coming out of the back of the motor is purple telling you the color of the learn button
My garage door opener is a liftmaster chain drive and it’s quieter then the belt drive you showed On that garage door it’s your garage door not the motor
The chain/belt or screw is only half the problem, if your TRACK that the actual door rollers roll on isn't greased/lubed properly you'll get just as much noise either way.
Everybody keeps saying rollers...lube your rollers. All I hear are squeaky hinges, even cheap doors have come with nylon rollers for over 15 years now and you don't lube the rollers or the track with nylon rollers...just the stems to keep them spinning freely. Just gap and lube the hinges on this door and your good to go with either opener. If you want the ultimate in noise dampening then go with a 8500 which puts the motor on the header beam up front then ad some isolator bushings to the track backhangs and you won't hear a thing upstairs.
The door is very noisy so you can't really tell the difference. Now this video has a much better example comparing the three different types: th-cam.com/video/F5TUzZA_Vw4/w-d-xo.html
Nice but fail. Most noise comes from bad door or tracks. Grease would help. Going to get a chain drive, stronger and lasts longer than a piece of rubber.
Dude, that door is going to wake up the dead. Check out some you tube videos on how to lubricate a door. I don't think your door rollers or any part of your door has ever been lubed.
Spray some lubricant on that thing. Too many other noises going on besides chain and belt
Glad I watched this video before purchasing a belt drive. It doesn't seem like its much quieter at all.
The noise levels on both are almost identical, maybe slightly different pitch between them but volume seems about the same.

The chain drive is a LiftMaster model 3265, and the belt drive is a Chamberlain model Whisper Drive.

Al u had to do to make the chain drive quieter is put rubber barrings in the angle iron
Agreed with bill borden
The actual sound is coming from the door itself. I like the Liftmaster 2265! Anyone else?
Actually luke that looks like a 3265 because of the string that is coming out of the back of the motor is purple telling you the color of the learn button
good video and very helpful, my garage door opener is extremely loud and I was looking for a solution....Thanks for the post.
So what are the CONS of a belt drive: Price? Durability?
I agree with s13 the noise is coming from door and rollers are they metal roller??
LUBE THOSE JOINTS! It will be much quieter.
I can feel the belt drive opener louder than the chain drive opener, but the door is just noisier than the opener, so it needs lubrication.
how does the belt drive hold in the az. heat? will the belt dry up ?

Dude! Oil the track & silicone the rollers
Never oil the track. You’d just be wasting lubricant and you can ruin your track
Actually, oiling the track can cause damage to the track and door.
Sounds as if that door is going to come out of it's tracks, LOL
Unfortunately it is very difficult to hear the garage door openers because the doors are so poorly lubricated all you hear is their loud squealing.
Very helpful
You can get a decibel meter app for most smart phones. I would be curious to see what the difference in volume is.

I'll take that 2265 LiftMaster over the DIY Chamberlain machine any day. I'd rather have the solid T-Rail.
Amen!
The noise is the same to me and chain is longer lasting!
Replace those noisy metal rollers with nylon rollers. Get them on eBAY, they're cheap and very quiet.
Thank you!
If you had lubed the door than maybe you would not need a new opener

Its not much quieter!
Sounds like your door itself is the cause of most of the noise.
I can't hear either opener over the sound of the door!
Hfhtr
i have a belt drive and it squeaks
Clean the trolley rail and the tracks please, and grease the door hinges.
Video should be titled what’s louder the opener or the door.
That was not the motor making noise that was the garage door itself
need to oil the door track
chain or belt what is best.
anesti mihali his door is loud so it's hard to tell
Annoying door but liftmaster sells a quiet chain drive but the loudest is a screw drive
Well, our screw drive openers in my house are Liftmasters and they are quiet.
DennisTheBrony22 im sure there are quiet screw drives like the genie xcelerator and lift master 3240. i have an intellicode which buzzes.
@@Datsun7705 The models we have are 3220, and they are from 2005.
