In this video I show what I think is the best bang for the buck garage door opener out there. This garage door opener is by Genie and the item number is 2514192. This is a 3/4hp, belt driven opener that does not have wifi capability or battery backup. This unit comes with 2 car clickers, a nice wall clicker and a nice wireless keypad as well as the safety beam system.
I was specifically looking for a 'simple' garage door opener that didn't have the wifi capability or battery backup. But, although simple, I still wanted all the extras like, for example, the wireless keypad. This unit was the only one I could find that had all I was looking for and at a good price.
The opener that I replaced was a Genie brand and I'm pretty sure was original to the house which is why I wanted to stay with the brand. If that thing could last all these years it's a pretty good indication that a new one would last pretty long as well.
I purchased the opener in this video at Lowes. The item number is 2514192. Here's a link to the actual item on Lowes' website: www.lowes.com/pd/Genie-0-75-H...

I just picked one up on clearance at Lowes for $47.00. Can't wait to get it installed.
One thing about Genie's that I learned through bitter experience -- make sure your door is absolutely perfectly balanced or you are going to end up replacing the circuit board. Also, have a surge protector. I got the Quiet Max 1000. Genie customer service was not nice to work with at all when things went south. My older Quiet Max was quieter than the new one sadly, but the new one is still way quieter than a Liftmaster that I was told would be just as quiet as a Genie (yeah, I got lied to).. I also really like the C channel that the Genies have. Nothing is perfect, but the Genie openers are quieter than most others. I have an old Phantom by Overhead in another garage, and that's pretty quiet too. Not sure it's still made thuogh.
Just replaced my 30 yr. old door opener yesterday with a similar model and really love the quietness and the features!
Great job...very quiet opener...😊
I just replaced my 24 year old one car garage opener with a genie 7055d 1.5 hp belt drive and new nylon rollers and it sounds amazingly quiet. Im getting the 2 hp for the 2-car next and cant wait for those quiet arrivals 😅
It sounds like this guy hit the jackpot. LOL
Just bought a dumb garage door opener today and it was the genie 7055 to replace an older chain drive genie model
Ditto. I just replaced an old Chamberlin screw drive with a similar Genie belt drive unit and was amazed at the difference.
Thanks for the steps.
Keep on filming 🎥 looking forwards to seeing 👀 more of your videos 🎬
Very well made video before & after sound 👌 done very well 👍 liked & subscribed
Thank you for the video. We have a chain driven Touch N Go 1000 garage door opener that still works but the remote stopped working.
I took the cover off of it to view how the chain was attached. Found a sticker that says MFG: 84 02 29. If it says what I think it says, that thing was made in 1984? Talk about reliability! Its 2024 now. That's 40 years!!
Regardless, we need to have a working remote and we have the same thinking process you did. Why spend $40 or more for a new remote solution when we can just swap out for something that works better for us.
My wife has an 06 Audi TT Quattro convertible. There is not a lot of room in the car even for a garage remote.
We plan on getting a new garage door opener that allows opening with a phone. Normally I am against those types of things for security reasons, but our garage is detached from our house and we live in a very safe small town with virtually no crime.
Thanks again for the video!
This is the first video, of yours that I've watched. Thought it was well done and good quality. I have one general comment for sny product reviews. Coukd you please mention where the product is made and assembled. I know there's not much these dsts but I fo always consider made in the USA, thanks.
I just replaced one just last week. I replaced it with a new Genie belt drive 1 1/4 Horsepower. You can't believe how quiet the new opener is. You have to look at the door to make sure it is actually working. I also like the fact that the wall button you can just turn on the light when you go in the garage.
Some people think new is better. I prefer older made of steel parts as opposed to made in china junk
I installed this opener today. It’s actual trash. The quality is so bad compared to the 20 year Genie that I replaced. I wish that I had stopped and returned it prior to finishing the install…to get a better one.
Did you change the rollers to nylon or what rollers did you keep or change? Thanks Great Video!!!!
An added point over a WiFi app activator, is this: OMG I left my phone at work or maybe I even lost it. But lucky for me there is a garage door opener in my car always...
I replaced my 22 year old Craftsman (chain drive) with a Genie belt driven and it's so much quieter! Two remotes and built in battery backup if power goes out 😎
Nice house! Will you make a video of the house price in that area?
Now you can sneak out without waking momma Bear.
I don't know how well you can get Wi-Fi up to your garage, but you can put Aladdin connect on that garage door opener
I bought one of those Genie 2055 openers. Can I program my old remotes to work with it?
Ive had my belt drive with battery back up smart craftsman opener for 5 years now. Its still silent, my old screwdrive opener was obnoxious loud.
You need a deadbolt with a combination key pad for your front door. Redundancy is always good piece of mind.
Do you think it would handle a 16 foot door?
Genie 😅😂
Are your garage door springs ok
I now know several people who have been burglarized through a garage door equipped with an opener. People leave a remote in a car parked on the street or in the driveway. You break a window in that car, get the garage remote, and use it to open the garage door. Many people don't lock the door between the house and the garage or now the bad guys have access to a more valuable vehicle in the garage. Loud garage doors are your friend. If I were to install a quiet garage door opener I would wire the door into my alarm and home automation system so that I know when that door is operating and is open or closed.
I think the solution isn’t a loud opener but to secure your remote. There are keychain openers that stay with you instead of staying in the car.
@@cheapme1850 - Agreed. One should also secure their keys (especially car keys) somewhere near their person. Again I know several people who hang their keys in their house near an entryway. This gives unwanted people easy access to those keys. At night, keep your keys beside you on a night stand.
That being said I really see almost no benefit in a quiet garage door. Most garage doors are operated a handful of times a day, so we're talking about maybe 10 minutes of noise out of 24 hours in a day. We even had a newborn grandchild sleeping in a bedroom directly over our garage, and the door and opener were pretty janky. The noise never woke him up.
Can you open and stop it, to have small gap for ventilation or needs to be fully open?
I've never understood the door gap for ventilation thing. I can understand when you're in the garage working, but then you could just pop the emergency release and prop the door open.
But when I'm away I'd want the door closed to keep out rodents, snakes, etc. A partially open garage door is tempting for thieves, too. A few inches is enough to wedge the door open or see where the emergency release is.
Which model is this?
I love the belt drive idea but I'm concerned that someone could pry up on the door, breaking the rubber belt and accessing the garage. I always go with chain drive, for security.
you watch too many crime shows!
I got this model yesterday and installed it. The issue I have now is the sensors don't light up when connected so it makes me hold the button down to close it but if I release the button it goes back up. Any ideas ?
Cables are crossed
I want my loud so I can hear someone open it
let your son go sow his wild oats, Nancy!!😂😂
@@lillagahnavich7700 not worried about my son, it's all the little thugs trying to steal everything
The old opener looks to be 80s actually
I bought 2 Genie jackshaft openers, really spendy. They were very low quality. I won't buy another Genie opener. I should have gotten the lift master version, it was only $50 more😢
This model is $189 at Lowes.
Safety eyes (dick) weren't mandated until 1993. Anytime you go to belt drives from chain rails it will be much quieter. Good job from a garage door installer! You might run to home depot or ace and get some silcon lube to spray those hinges and springs.
Safety Lasers? There is no mandate to use lasers on a garage door. In fact, I guarantee your garage door opener did not come with lasers of any kind. I realize the person who posted the video referred to lasers too, but no - garage doors do not use lasers.
You garage door probably has a light beam or light curtain sensor that most likely uses a non-collimated LED light that is tuned to an infrared frequency designed to match a photo-detector on the other side of the door.
@@markfellhauer352 I hope you're single without kids and continue that until you stop being a prick.
Sux...
Jesus get to the point......................................here 1:36
Genie is absolutely the worst garage door opener you can buy period end of story.
Really? How so? If you watch the video I have two Genie openers that are very very old and still working great.
Which one?
I agree 100%. Looked at the box and the motor warranty is for just 10 years 😂😂😂
That says quality and peace of mind 😏😏
I disagree; Linear has that title.
