I’m on my ninth can of beer this evening folks so, please forgive me for spouting off. I have so enviously followed Lou building this boat, dreaming about living aboard while, cruising the great loop. Facing the fiercest of weather along the intercoastal, the Great Lakes and then leisurely floating down the Mississippi and into the Gulf of Mexico only to do it all over again. I sensed how proud Lou was of this boat and it’s design and it’s construction process and I just drooled over it. I commend him on his accomplishment!
I have been watching your channel for years and it inspired me to build a ply on frame boat I built a Spira Kachemak design and have been enjoying it for years Thanks for this inspiration You are a great craftsman
A work of art, Lou. Gorgeous. You inspire me to be a better craftsman and teach me things with every single episode. You are by far my favorite YT creator. Thank you!
A belated congratulations to you, Lou for creating this amazing craft and thanks, Halsey for bringing the process to our screens. It’s as much fun to see Lou’s satisfaction as seeing him build!
She's a real beauty, Lou. Great job from design to fruition. It looks so much bigger out of the shop and up on the trailer out in the sun. I fell behind on watching videos as I helped my mother get through her first round of chemotherapy, but I can hardly wait to catch up some and see not only this beauty on the water, but where you've gotten to on your other build/s. Keep on keeping on, brother. God bless.
It's actually quite sad that you'll never make another one. When that's the only boat in the world I wish I owned. She's absolutely beautiful! I'm so envious of the owner. This has been the best boat building series ever on any channel.
Thanks for the ride, Lou. I have thoroughly enjoyed your design and build. My father was a cabinet maker and watching and listening to your build regularly reminded me of him... The love of wood and the pride shown in craftmanship you share with my dad is a pleasure to watch. You have enhanced the already wonderful memories of times I shared with Jock. Again, many thanks. Alan Smith.
It is very nice, but I spotted the bit where the perpendicular boarding has it's weakness. It's 3-5 feet forward from transom, where it should lean against the wake there is slight indent. Straight running boards with framing you can shape that to more spoonlike for more efficient hull. Lou's hull although has it's stability on it's side, but needs a lot more motor.. Thank you, Lou and the Crew! The spark of inspiration has ignited! Can't wait to see her in waves!
Well done boy she looks I mean she really looks grand a very builtifull boat ,,!!!!of course I would expect nothing else from a highly skilled craftsman as your self I look forward to seeing her on the water and next endeavor
I built a small framed V bottom skiff a few years back - on YT. Loved it! Loved building it so much I sold it and now almost finished building a 21’ folding trailerable trimaran. But for this one I went over to the dark side. It’s an epoxy/pvc/fibreglass sandwich construction. Light but strong. Modern design modern materials. She looks fantastic. And will sail beautifully I’m sure. But I gotta say I much prefer building in wood. But had I built it in wood it would not be half the boat this one is. Boats, they’re always a compromise, one way or another.
It's encouraging to watch your craftsmanship come alive. A wooden boat is on my bucket list. Unfortunately my bucket has a hole in it but as soon as I can I'll plug it.
What a journey. It's interesting to me that you will never make another boat like this one. However as a lifetime of furniture making has taught me, it's not custom if you make more than one! 😉
Oh, Lou, what a beautiful thing you have created! And it's absolutely wonderful to share in your pleasure; to see a master craftsman and his work is always a joy. I feel especially privileged to have my name on your Patreon board and to have been able to follow the creation of this masterpiece.
Lou, I really enjoyed meeting you and spending some type talking boats at the Newport Boat Show! Thank you for signing my Tips from a Shipwright hat. I would love to come up to the Open Door Boat Shop sometime and talk some more! This has been a fantastic build series and I'm looking forward to seeing the creation of ORCA.
The lines of Lou's design are just beautiful. Sitting on the trailer in the opening segment really shows them off. It looks like it'll slice through the water with no problem at all.
Thank you so much! I'm such a fan of great craftsmanship. I've been following your channel for a long time and I'll be very excited to see this boat in the water, Thanks again :-)
I've built quite a few things in my life as a welder fitter so I know a little bit about what your talking about, and how good you feel when you finish a huge project. You get to stand back and take a look at what you've built and you say to yourself wow I really did built that than the feeling of pride over takes you and you stand in awe of what you created nothing really compares to that really. Its pretty cool ,you must feeling pretty good about yourself right now Leo cause you've done one hell of a job. can't wait for the launch,,really looking forward to it.
I will never get bored watching Lou's videos! That skiff is a master piece. But I'm a little concerned about there is no wood protection for the inside wood. Lou, will you oil the inside wood or use another product to protect the wood inside the boat?
Are we ever going to get a final video of this boat in the water? LOL I find myself checking multiple times a week to see if a new video has been posted keep up the good work you build some beautiful boats
Can't wait to see it on the water .a true craftsmen built it
It's so nice to see Lou excited and pleased with the fruits of his work. What an incredible man!
"A V-bottom skiff in a shed is safe, but that's not what skiffs are built for." I can't wait to see this beauty going through her paces on the water.
This is the WOW factor of all boat building channels!
LOL, That 3D animation at the end threw me off! awesome.
I love watching Lou take out his newly built boats, The excitement and joy he feels is palpable! Looking forward to the video.
She is a beauty sir.
If fuel ever prices itself out of existence you can put leeboards on and it'll be a dandy sailor.

Any bracing going in between the stringers and transom to help support the engine? Love the boat.
