sorry if i hurt your feelings i just wanted to say (with a humble smile) is i think he`s beyond titles and entitlement but if you see that way, you see that way and it`s fine too. again sorry any inconvenience. have a nice day.
I can’t believe how stable that craft is. You stood all the way to the side and it was still flat in the water. A truly well designed, and beautiful working boat.
this guy needs his own show on like actual TV and stuff, the knowledge this one guy has about building boats needs to be put out there as much as possible, i hope we never lose this. ever
Watching a man fly across the water on a boat he made himself. Absolutely amazing. It’s probably the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. The most iconic vision of boatery I’ve ever seen. God bless you Louie.
I have no wider relation to boats or boat building for that matter. I came here because I thought it sounded like a interesting project, stayed for the high quality videos and a warm person working with such passion. I laughed and smiled during this last episode. Thanks for the company, lessons in construction and lessons in life. Hope to see you soon again. /Tim, Sweden
Hello Lou, Beautiful Boat! Look at that 180 deg. turn in the water. It's hugging the water throughout the turn. You're a great craftsman and boat builder / designer. Thanks for sharing your skills with all of us. It's the lucky man or woman that ends up buying the TotalBoat.
Never have I looked forward to any youtube video being released as much as to this one. I like being AT the sea, not on the sea because I get seasick really fast. But watching you build this thing, has been a great pleasure. Even for an old landlubber like me. Keep on the good work and I'll hope someone with deep pockets is going to get this beauty off your hands. :)
Lou, I've been an avid woodworker for over 20 years. I got my start by watching Norm Abrahams and the New Yankee Workshop as well as This Old House. As someone who has never owned a boat and certainly never ventured into boat building I appreciate not only your knowledge but ability to teach and explain as you go. I appreciate you sharing your craft with us and also your contagious passion for boat building!
A big dumb grin came across my face watching you turn up the motor on the boat and ride it around and enjoy it. It's been a pleasure to see it come together episode by episode. Can't wait for the next one.
I couldn't help smiling when Lou opened up the throttle on the skiff. This was an awesome ending to this awesome series. Videography was excellent. Can't wait for the next series, Lou!
Holy Moly. My father is a boat builder on Long Island and you guys are basically the same guy. I can listen to you talk about boats for hours. As a woodworker, I find this more informative than any book. You are a true master.
Seeing you pilot that boat is like watching a kid open presents on Christmas Day. I absolutely loved watching this series and can't hardly wait for the next project. Thank you so much for doing this for us. Mike
Absolutely fantastic! I've enjoyed every episode of this series and you have actually made me finally decide to go after my life long dream and build my own skiff. So I'm starting my very own skiff project this summer. A very big thanks for the inspiration and knowledge! Best ever. 👍👍👍👍👍
I binge watched this series of videos, I just couldn't stop. I cannot express my gratitude and respect for your skills with mere words. People who have never built or owned a wooden boat will not understand what it means to ride in one, let alone appreciate the skill that took to build this boat. I can't thank you enough. God Bless and keep you Sir !
Wow, standing up piloting a skiff with 50 hp sailing along with the wind at your face, man it just doesn't get any better than that! After all your happy building and having fun with it on the water is just great. I enjoyed watching you build it and seeing you have fun with it.
I've watched the whole series and determined IMO this man is a genius.....and the finest example of a craftsman. He not only has the talent & skills to build a work of art with the most basic of tools, he thoroughly explains all aspects of the build simply and logically .....he KNOWS what he's doing! I only hope that there are apprentices out there coming up behind him . His enthusiasm , and spirit is also fun, exhilarating! AND contagious!! I want to build a boat! .............. A sincere Thanks Louis for this series , your hard work and attention to detail, I really enjoyed it.....
Thoroughly fascinated by watching a real craftsman who really enjoys his chosen profession, loved every minute watching you build the work skiff. No question as to who I would choose to build my boat.
This by far and wide is the best boat building tutorial I've ever seen online or video. You sir are a testament to your craft, ability and teaching. I'm building my own fishing boat at the moment because of what I've learned here because you make it believable for the average woodworker to be able to do it and believe in themselves. Thank you and I wish you nothing but good health and a LONG happy boat ride. Thank you Thank you Thank you
I binge watched your build all weekend, I do not usually sit long and I rarely watch TV stuff! All I can say is WOW! I subscribed, and feel I have been reawoken. My dad passed 3 yeas ago and that kind of " took the wind out of my sails " so so speak. I have built hundreds of RC airplanes, several small RC power boats, the log cabin home my father and mother lived in, 2 conventional homes, several chicken coops lol ect... You get the picture! Now I have decided to take the challenge to do something like this Skiff, Dory, or fishing Drift boat. I'm not sure what style of boat, but I have some research to do! I want to thank you Sir personally, and thank your sponsors for helping to reignite a passion for perhaps one last or final build! THANK YOU AGAIN!
Words are laim when it comes to my admiration for you. Inspiring? Artistic? Knowlegeable? Caring? Thoughtful? Leaving the world a better place? Those are just a few things that come to mind. Like so many others said, I hope your passion is not one of a kind and that you continue to inspire those yet to come. Even so, you already have done more than God could ask of any man.
Your the exact person Lou who you would bye a hand crafted boat off. The passion you showed in making the work boat was second to none, and it shows it in the finished product. Great job mate.👍👍
This series of 37 episodes is absolutely fantastic. From the standpoint of an educator, I really appreciate Lou's phenomenal style of straight forward explanation. I'm from Canada and was recently in Boston and could not pass up the opportunity to rent a car and drive to Rhode Island to meet Lou in person and pass on my appreciation for his efforts. It was a great day and a highlight of my short trip to the U.S. Kudos to his fill crew too, for the great quality of videos. I'm hoping to build a couple 13 footers for our sailing school coach boat fleet
Here's a guy who is a pleasure to listen to. He is sophisticated in his knowledge & skills so he speaks of those...However in doing so he speaks simply so we learn as he goes & " shows". ALSO we know he speaks truthfully because what he has built & the quality of it presents an undeniable truth as it speaks foe itself!
I also rate this entire series with Jamestown and Lou as my most favorite ever! Craftsmanship unparalleled, professional videography/sound, no question left unanswered, and Lou's knowledge and unique personality make this a series unequaled on TH-cam, in my opinion. Thank you Lou, and thank you Jamestown for sponsoring this treasure!
Dr. Sauzedde! I build Windsor rocking chairs for a hobby. You taught me a lot while building this boat! Thanks a lot for many hours of watching this boat coming to life! I truly appreciate your explanations for every detail as you build it! Thank you!!!
This is by far the greatest series I've seen on TH-cam. I'm a carpenter of 31 years. Building a boat is something I've always wanted to do and thanks to you I'm going to do it. The open design is exactly what I like. Very much like the skiffs me, my friends. Dad and others going back a few generations grew up with. It has been a pleasure watching your talent, skills and craftsmanship .
Robert Frost said it was his goal to have his avocation and his vocation be one and the same. I've been messing around with boats for 60+ years and can't tell you how much I enjoy your video content. Although I am familiar with most of your content I have never seen a more practical common sense approach to your work. Keep sharing as much as you can. Society needs to know what can be built by hand. Thank you😎
I don't build any boats but I watched every episode. I enjoyed your knowledge immensely, thanks for your time / documentation. What a great little boat!
I never was that much on boat builds, but this was the most interesting and well made video of a boat build I have ever seen. Mr Louis Sanzedde is a true master wood builder. I can't believe I was so in grossed watching the entire boat build. Watching the final boat send off in the water was so exciting. I think I saw the kid come out in him. Would of loved to off been able to work with such an amazing person to soak up a small fraction of his knowledge. Thank you for taking the time in sharing this awesome build with others. Warm regards Gary N.
Americans like Louis have built this nation with dedications and hard work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. May your seas be calm, sun on your face, and the wind to your back.
man i really like this boat ... my dream boat!! wish i had one!! just moved by a river and this would be perfect. gonna try to build one one day ... hope i can get it done in time for my Dad to go out in it with me .
Great work, Louis! Congratulations from Russia! On this boat you look like a boy with the toy of his dream. I am the sailor as you. The name of my yacht is "Nika". She belongs to the russian national class L-6. If it is interesting for you, you can find some information about us in the Internet. Our class is not very old like 8 meter and other classic classes, but, maybe, it is the oldest class of yachts in Russia.
Just started watching your videos a few days ago. I'm a carpenter by trade and you sir are a great craftsman. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Amazing work!!
I'm SO glad I found this series on TH-cam. I'm a carpenter and a boatman. Got my first boat when I was 3.5 years old (41 years ago) Still, I have learned so much and enjoyed myself so much with an incredibly knowledgeable and cozy man. Thank you. Greetings from Norway
This "Total Boat" series was "totally cool!". Watched all of them on my 69th birthday and was reminded of the first boat I built right out of high school.(a 16' catamaran sailboat that I modeled after a 20' Tornado racing cat) Although I used marine plywood I did develop some similar techniques that were so well demonstrated in these video's. It is a joy to learn from a true master craftsman and helpful human being. Great experience well shared.
That is one sweet boat! Lou, can't believe you're letting it go. I live in Central Texas so not much use for a boat for me, but I really enjoyed the series. Watching the auction with great interest as well.
I loved listening to him describe the boat. Total pride in his work, but also sounded almost like he was seeing it for the first time. He loved that boat. Not just because he was the builder, but because it's a beautiful thing no matter who the builder was.
This video series is the absolute BEST and most interesting video series I've seen on TH-cam. I'm waiting with baited breath to see the next series. Thanks so much Lou!
I`m not a boat person ,I was browsing and found your channel,I have watched every one and I loved every bit ,your great knowledge and of how and why gave me a renewed interest woodworking, thank you . best wishes from the U.K,
Its only an attempt until its floats :) I enjoyed every second of the process. So grateful for all the shared wisdom! Thank you to all who made it possible
Larry Teague that's a product of the flat, squarish cross section of the Dory/skiff hull. There are trade offs, but these are stable and handle weight well.
@@jacobmccandles1767 I watched the entire series, I am going to finish my 48 Chevy truck build to get it out of the way and clear a space to build my own work skiff.thank you for showing me how in great detail. I am a carpenter and woodworker and learned quite a bit from your video..subscribed .
Absolutely Fabulous , Really Enjoyed : ) Thank you so much, Me and My Little Girls Watched the Entire Build Series . God Bless, Dad and Daughters ( Toronto )
Late to the show I know, but, amazing series. Award worthy. The kind of all American guy we all want to hang out with. Nice, knowledgeable, laid back, ridiculously intelligent, and introduced me to more words in this series than I ever knew growing up. He needs to create a boat builder's dictionary! Thanks Lou!
I can honestly say, after binge watching this series a dozen times over the years with the woodworking skills I already have, and maybe a few more tools, I could build a boat like this, without a doubt, knowing that it would be safe and sturdy. Thank you Lou. Happy New Year!
Lou, you did a fantastic job on the skiff, I have watch your vids many times and you are inspiring. You have been blessed with a great skill, thank you,
@@TipsfromaShipwrightvideos. Have to say I am a bit behind the times and have only just seen these videos but, I have just watched them all in two sessions and was glued (excuse the pun😉)to them! You Sir are an extremely talented man. Incidentally what did these go for on eBay? Many thanks and take care. Best regards Alan🇬🇧.
Wow , what a great effort. That thing is fabulous. The world doesn't care about your feelings or emotions. It only cares about what you can produce. From what I see , you are a master at detail , and i don't know if i could pull it off . But you did teach me how to maintain some tools and somethings that will make my life easier
How pleased I was that Jimmy Diresta went to the Wooden Boat Show and included a chat with you, Louis, in his TH-cam video, so that I could follow his suggestion to view this series - it has been wonderful! I have always enjoyed watching TV programmes and videos on how things are made, ever since the days of black-and-white BBC TV in the UK back in the 50/60's, but they nearly always left me slightly dissatisfied that they had not gone into the full details of what was shown - but this series answered every question that popped into my head as I watched, and you explained the 'whys' as well as demonstrating some very interesting and novel 'hows'. I have taken up woodworking in my retirement, and viewing this series has been an inspiration, and - perhaps best of all - might curb my desire to get jobs completed in a rush instead of following your example of working out the best ways to complete each task with patience and thought, and so end up with a better job. You have a wonderfully relaxed and confident style, and convey information from your vast experience without condescension that makes it feel as though we viewers are part of a chat with you in your workshop. Obviously I am going to need quite a time at my PC catching up with all your other items, but for now I thank you for this series which has given me so much pleasure..
Obviously you know boats and you know how to build them. I really enjoy your narratives, your voice, your excitement about boats. Thank you. I really enjoyed your videos.
I am a retired wood worker ,I,like you, have a shop. You are an artist that built a wood boat. You also have a gift in being able to explain each step where the least talented of us can understand. My hats off to you!
Just watched every single episode. Neil is right. You DESERVE a Doctorate for your knowledge. What a GREAT series. I have say too, whomever was responsibly forl the filming/editing/audio, I saw not ONE single glitch. PRO production values start to finish...
Congratulations Captain Louis. Not only did you build an awesome boat, but you made me look at boats like never before. In fact, you are the person who has motivated me (me being a completely impractical office worker for the last 30 years) to go out and buy some decent woodworking tools and a boat kit. Plan is to get a bit of experience with the kit and then scratch build a 4 foot radio controlled boat using all the principles I learned in your video series. Thank you so much & greetings from South Africa.
So I have watched every single episode of this build and I have to say sure craftsmanship excellent design I wasn't too sure about the flat bottom until you put it on the water and watching it skip across the water absolutely finished it off for me. I was truly impressed I am truly impressed.
My heart sank as this episode came to an end. I have been in a you tube unsatisfying funk ever since, and then last week when series # 3 was announced with the first video. !!! I am alive again !! :)
I have very little interest in boats but this series has been an absolute treat. Watching good craftsmanship is a joy in itself. Thank you for talking us long for the ride.
Hello! I'm happy about your offer to answer questions and share your expertise and experience. Its quite a chance, from a guy who is so dedicated and guru like about boats and at the same time ready to do unconventional. I found you and your channel a few years ago while looking for ways to utilize plastic in boat building, thinking I could somehow fuse HDPE-plastic and build a boat from it. The freedom to move and travel with the most essential equipment and gear is vital to all enterprises of human kind. Further I believe that nowadays the freedom to be independent, unbound and autonomous is not as tollerated than the skills and abilities of the people actually are and would enable or make them. Thats one of the reasons why I want to build a sailboat to come around. A couple years ago I got that obsession to find a way to do that on a really low budget but making it as innovative and sophisticated as possible at the same time. The style which appears most promising to me is something with carbon, glas or basalt- fibres reinforcement and/or meshed mats and then using UHPC (ultra high performance concrete, like Ductal(r)) instead of epoxy, with vacuum injection. I've seen Danish plastered more bulky concrete sailboats on youtube, so there is no doubt that concrete works ... One of my role models is Coretin de Chatelperron goldofbengal.com/ Meanwhile he actually did what I was thinking about. Also a lot of German Professors getting so called future- prices now for C3 (carbon concrete composite.. Ok they started that reasearch- project in 2014) even though they're more talking about the carbon than the new innovations in mixing concrete with "flowenhancers", less water and short staples and fibers which gives it more strengths. So, I thought you might like the idea! What do you think about this and what shape would you give a sailboat hull why are cool boats so expensive? Do you accept apprentice?
It was 5 am last night when I gave up and turned my computer off. Couldn't have enough to watch and finally came to a finish. Fantastic boat, fantastic shipwright and a really great character. Hope the new series will be about a sailing boat, preferably a dragon!
Just found this vid. Now I have to go back and watch them all. If they are as good as this one, and I suspect they are, then it will be a treat to watch. Looking forward to more. Great work.
This good old man is really admirable. He is a very good speaker, so detailed to his teaching. A very good carpenter working neat and clean, and oh! He is an amazing rider too!!!! I'm so very thankful seeing this video up to the last episode ....Thank you TotalBoat, you really pick a right guy sharing this piece of work to the whole world ....
Stumbled onto your channel. Didn’t take much time to realize someone who brings a world of experience to bear on each project. With all the “wanta bes” our there it’s great to find a teacher who opens my eyes to better ways. A true artist
Thank you so much for sharing this. It was a privilege to watch you work, and it brings back many memories of youthful adventures on a 14 ft wooden skiff.
I vote this as one of the all time best boat videos on youtube.
The best
I agree 100%
Have it on my play list - keep watching it over and over again ..... All this years...

I'm hoping the next project will have a sail as well.
I'd like to see a small sailing skiff,
if possible.
GREAT work Louis!

I believe you genuinely deserve an honorary doctorate for the knowledge you've gained and shared over the years! What does everyone else think?
Neil Rose I second the motion. best boat build I have seen.
I agree. from the UK>
doctorate why? he`s from a different part of ... of... life :D
The broken bone. Doctorates serve and transcend all walks of life and subjects. They are about advancement of knowledge. Need I say more!

It sold for $15,700.
Caleb Smith we need a name for her
I respect this man's work, but I would never buy a wooden boat!
If it sells for 15700 isnt a motor like that alone 7500? Doesnt seem like he leaves much meat on the bone for himself

man i really like this boat ... my dream boat!! wish i had one!! just moved by a river and this would be perfect. gonna try to build one one day ... hope i can get it done in time for my Dad to go out in it with me .
You and the boat are a legend already!! Absolutely beautiful, the boat that is :-)
I'm SO glad I found this series on TH-cam. I'm a carpenter and a boatman. Got my first boat when I was 3.5 years old (41 years ago) Still, I have learned so much and enjoyed myself so much with an incredibly knowledgeable and cozy man. Thank you.
Greetings from Norway
Built a small boat once. it was probably one of my most rewarding projects ever. But its amazing to watch a true master craftsman at work.
Been waiting all day for this video!

I agree. If it's possible to nominate a Channel like this for some type of TH-cam award then I vote for Lou and for this series.
Amazing.....I really mean that.
Many thanks.....all the way from London!
Such an awesome series. Thank you!
Jay Bates love to see video series like this frm you
maybe you should try making something similar...
Awesome boat, awesome builder, cant wait for more, all the very best from an english lobster fisherman, thankyou.
Wow that thing really handles. Nicely done.
I liked that it barely moved when he stepped into it.
Larry Teague I wish I thought I were up to the task.
@@jacobmccandles1767 I hope you aren't sick... You looked healthy in the videos...
Absolutely Fabulous , Really Enjoyed : ) Thank you so much, Me and My Little Girls Watched the Entire Build Series .
God Bless,
Dad and Daughters ( Toronto )
Late to the show I know, but, amazing series. Award worthy. The kind of all American guy we all want to hang out with. Nice, knowledgeable, laid back, ridiculously intelligent, and introduced me to more words in this series than I ever knew growing up. He needs to create a boat builder's dictionary! Thanks Lou!
I can honestly say, after binge watching this series a dozen times over the years with the woodworking skills I already have, and maybe a few more tools, I could build a boat like this, without a doubt, knowing that it would be safe and sturdy. Thank you Lou. Happy New Year!
How can you "thumbs down" this video ? Seriously !
Great looking boat! where is the link to the ebay auction?
ah, I see it in the description now, I guess I was too early!
ebay auction link: www.ebay.com/itm/-/201900564523?
See the descriptions below the video.
"I love it when a skiff comes together." (Said with a cigar in the mouth)
Lou, you did a fantastic job on the skiff, I have watch your vids many times and you are inspiring. You have been blessed with a great skill, thank you,
Thanks David hearing that keeps me inspired!
You can go to stodoys if you would like to make it yourself guys.
Awesome tip Greg
Thx
@@trenapickel6060 Welcome
I come back to this clip from time to time because it makes me happy to see you so happy riding this boat.
Obviously you know boats and you know how to build them. I really enjoy your narratives, your voice, your excitement about boats. Thank you. I really enjoyed your videos.
True craftsmanship from start to finish. Boat just plain beautiful. I hope the new owner takes good care of her.
Tears in my eyes, that thing should be in a Hollywood movie, great job man....
One of my role models is Coretin de Chatelperron goldofbengal.com/
Meanwhile he actually did what I was thinking about.
What do you think about this and what shape would you give a sailboat hull
why are cool boats so expensive?
Do you accept apprentice?
It was 5 am last night when I gave up and turned my computer off. Couldn't have enough to watch and finally came to a finish. Fantastic boat, fantastic shipwright and a really great character. Hope the new series will be about a sailing boat, preferably a dragon!
Really a profound intellect with Louis. Feel super lucky to have been able to watch this!
Dear sir. I just want to say ( Thank you for show us this video ) what a beautiful wood boat. U did a fantastic job.
What a handy-man ; so admire you.
