- Yamaha's YXZ1000R SS XT-R is a blast to drive in stock trim. However, some people can't leave well enough alone so that's why companies like Weller Racing exist and satisfy those needs. We took a stock YXZ and a turbo equipped YXZ with Cognito Motorsports long-travel suspension to the track to see if these mods are worth the extra investment.

Always loved the yxz with a turbo. Would love to see Yamaha refresh this unit
They just did with the 2024 model.
I have a 2019 YXZ Garrett turbo with Alba ECU,and trinity exhaust. It would take something very special to make me trade this girl.I live at the coast and she does everything well, from running through the pine trees to thrashing sand. I will say this, if you get a turbo you must run an after market silencer and flash the ECU. Completely different animal.
Are you running a long travel setup as well or did you stay stock?
@@Goldgitter stock. 2 inch extensions. Each wheel. 2 inch lift.
@@Goldgitter I run 33s on the road to keep the RPMs down but I’ll run the stock Maxis bighorn‘s because they are the best all around sand,mud and hard pack tire I can find. I wouldn’t run the 33‘s and try to go fast, to top-heavy.

First! The beauty of the YXZ 1000R platform is that it's just a versatile vehicle and it's fun to drive stock and you can build it to compete and even beat the $40K+ elite sport SxS. '24 YXZ's can now be had in XTR trim for under $20K, which is 4K less than at launch.
Cain, now that you've shown what it can do in the fast stuff, you ought to bring your YXZ out to the Black Hills and see what it can do in the rough stuff with the new 6 speed transmission.

Need a tighter ratio in the steering looks like. Gets rid of the arm crossing.

Awesome video guys big fan of the YXZ love anything everything about these machines have a 22 xtr myself unfortunately missed out on the extra gear but still love my machine and does everything I want. I'm still completely stock and am very happy with the performance. Would love to see some other videos of you guys out ripping these things.

What kinda wheels/tires can you get away with on that cognito setup? I wanna run a 5+2 wheel on 32s or maybe 33s
You can get away with 5+2 32" on 2" spacers
I have a new street set up. 33 inch tires on 14 inch rims 2” wheel spacers and 2” lift. Great for the street but really compromises the center of gravity as in being top-heavy. I would use the set up also, if I was in tight rocky trails. Very forgiving because of the tall side walls of the tires and as long as you don’t go fast much more comfortable. However, I live at the beach and all that stuff is coming off every time we ride in the sand through the pine trees. That set up is still with the big horns, turbo, Alba tune,Trinity exhaust, and I’m going to leave the 2” spacers on to see if it will corner better. As obviously I have not tried that set up in the woods yet. Otherwise I haven’t found anybody that can keep up with me through the pine trees on a sandy trail .And no, I don’t need to hear about how fast you are and how much faster you are than I am and how much faster your cousins,uncle,girlfriend or grandsons are.Just telling you my experience in the last five years.
What cage is on Tim's car?
Weller custom cage. So far I've only seen it on Weller shop cars and Tims. It looks good
