I bought a new 2017 YXZ clutch model and put over 6000 miles on it. Mostly Glamis Sand dunes, and Arizona desert. The machine was rocksolid, and never gave me any trouble. The fit and finish combined with the build quality and reliability was amazing. I truly miss that machine!
I want an 18 speed transmission with 4 reverse gears, air shift transfer case, tri axle setup with solid axles and air bags on my sxs. Why is that too much to ask for?
My buddy has a 21 yxz. Just over 1k miles, it jumped time and bent all the intake valves. As much as it sucked, it gave him a reason to put a turbo on it and build the motor up some
Absolutely love Yamaha and Suzuki quality , just wish they’d build something like an X3. More suspension , bigger , bigger tires , more capable in the technical stuff side of things . Id still love to rip one ! I’ve never gotten to drive a YXZ yet . Sweet for what it is .
This will be my first SxS: no belts, manual gearbox w/ real LSD. I love being able to shift but wife would prefer auto for when I’m riding my bike, she doesn’t have to deal with a clutch in the rocky climbs. Blu Crew for life
One thing to note is that there’s less power loss through the transmission with a manual, compared to CVT. When comparing to a vehicle with same crank hp, yxz has more actually making it to the ground
How is it now for slow Moab rock crawling? Assuming still not that great. Also for guys that want a 200 ish horsepower turbo kit, will this automatic transmission hold up?
The point of a yxz was different than any other side by side. I reflashed my 16. Put 31in irok NDs on it with a bit of offset. Put 20k miles on it on the street before it was totaled. On I10 with a reflash and redline raised to 10.5k it would get to 99 mph pretty quickly. But...if you were willing to keep it pinned...you could get 106 on the GPS. it never felt super confident offroad, but on road is was an absolute blast.
I made mine street legal I bought a 22 XTR model I'm sitting at 1700 miles now I bought 30 inch Hercules because asphalt was chewing up stock tires. Glad to hear u got 20k miles on one I'm really wondering how many miles I might actually get out of it. I love this machine it isn't the fastest out there but its fine for me. Hope I can get a lot of miles out of her
this is pretty cool i didn't like the yxz before but this helps me like it more for sure. i wish we could see more of these transmission in other machines as long as they can get the auto working good. im a mud rider so i dont care about how fast it is, what gets my interest is no belt snorkels, now that would be awesome to just have one snorkel for the engine and away you go. maybe well see something crazy come from cf moto with what ever there new 3 cylinder engine is going in? they are a partner with yamaha now. i doubt it but who knows cf moto does do some weird stuff haha
How’s the noise levels in the 24 YXZ? I have a 21 KRX and it’s loud. Was wondering if these are quieter since you have the option to lower revs by upshifting.
@dondelche yes, can shortshift all the way down to nearly idle if on flat ground and it's pretty quiet. I've always been happy with the fact that it doesn't squeak, rattle and clunk like my other machine did.
@@dondelche just remember, YXZ is only happy above 6,000 RPM. So if you drive it hard, it will be loud and the transmission hums right next to you if you go fast. I take the noise any day over a rubber belt trany.

@TheBandit7613 Oh I'm pretty sure it's still geared way too tall for any actual crawling. That's what made me get the rmax sport instead, but I still love the yxz and the speed
yamaha is not paying attention to anyone who actually has a yxz and what they do them. 30 to 32 inch tires reinforced shock towers (bring them out) 180 to 200 hp reliable 72 inch wide a arms
@jr88brutus yea it's crazy if they did they sale so many plus give it lil bit tech and if they did the 72inch long travel live valve with a 200 plus turbo and new look it be a beast
I still think Yamaha is my top manufacturer. But they have fallen so far behind in the UTV market that the YXZ is a non-starter. Outdated subpar suspension geometry, no OEM turbo, no OEM long travel, awful frame reinforcement (multiple YXZ's I've seen with frame damage of arms ripping off the car), and the worst and most dangerous OEM "cage". I can't imagine spending $23,000+ on a car like this when there are others that beat it in every aspect other than having the transmission. These cars can be amazing with deep pockets. Turbo kits, rear suspension redesigns with proper trailing arms, long travel, etc. They could easily bring to market a Turbo R and Maverick RR competitor with OEM turbo, long travel, and redesigned suspension geometry and charge $30k. I know I would eat it up in a second if they had a similar competing car with Polaris and Can-Am. I do love Yamaha, but they really need to step it up and stop re-releasing a car from 2017.
Why is it two seater? Wouldn’t one seat in the middle be faster! Keep the wheel base just make it smaller lighter which would have to make it faster! If I was to buy one of these i would want the RS1 but they quit making it! That seamed like the best sport machine to me! Mix that with this and you really would have a desert 🌵 killer!
Market is over saturated already and they’ll be late to the game. Polaris ran into the same issue with jet skis. They got in the game too late when there were already established brands and couldn’t make good profit with pwc
The new updated automatic transmission is junk such a terrible idea. Bring back the 5 speed sequential manual transmission with a clutch! Like the 2016 model
There is a Yamaha built and engineered turbo kit available from and installed by the dealer that upholds Yamaha warranty. Costs about $6,000. Google yxz gytr turbo kit. About 180hp.
@@GetRightIntoIt So you have to spend $23,000 + $6,000 + labor costs to have a car with awful suspension, horrid cage, missing features, and an all around lesser than the other UTV's in the $30k range to get an 8psi kit. Great to hear!
How’s it ride on rough trails
Why they haven’t updated the suspension like can am and Polaris is beyond me.
So true. The ride is so outdated.
It didn't need to be updated it worked the first time unlike polaris or canam lol jk
I rented one a few years back, ride was so harsh I had to stop after just a couple hours and switch to a polaris. Any improvements on that part?
Apparently there's several Koolade survivors that could afford this😮

They beefed up the trans. Better oiling to the clutches. It will handle 200hp just fine
I think Yamaha will come with something nice as when they released the Banshee...kicking butts left and right
Be sweet if they brought back the Banshee
I wish there was a desire by yamaha to make a flagship machine like the yxz was in 2016.
All they have to do is slap a factory turbo on this thing with new suspension and it's competitive again
