Just want to tell you what a Great! video. Well done, lots of quality, well edited! I look forward to more of your videos. Two good planes too, by the way. I own the 1700. Lots of plane for the money and fun to boot what's not to like.👍👍
Hi Steve My friend 👋👍😁💯🛩️🛩️. Wow two great and totally awesome RC planes.
I love the way they just handle the wind and are very stable, fast. Easy to assemble.
Thank you so very much for sharing this wonderful video and God bless you and your family always 🙏.
Have a great week my friend and everyone 👋
Thanks 👍
7 minutes in of your videos, these both planes are already SOLD OUT, just in 7 minutes of your video, wow!!! I put in for the notification for the 700mm plane when it's back in stock, I'm gonna buy it in a min when it's back in stock, but damn, that's really great price! And awesome landing gear!! Like can't break landing gear with these cool springs on it, noiceee!!!! Thanks Captain Drone for shared this video and many thousands of videos too 👍🏼🤙🏼
They are certainly popular
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 surely is! 🤙🏼 ✈️
I’m envious of the landing gear systems on these planes 🎉
Those were just cool. I liked the big plane, looked super easy to take off and land.
Yes it was!
Are you able to get floats for the 1300mm?
@7:30 I thought the One wheel Touch & Go was going to end with a wing tip touch on NO go! Nice flying there, Steve!
Lots of Bang for the Buck
Add Cams and Good to go.
Those both seem like really nice airplanes. A larger one would be really exciting to fly. Thanks for sharing them with us.
Well done Captain! (and I am in love, well, not with you however the smaller of the two Planes !!!!!!) I think I found my first entry level into this style; many thanks for sharing!
Good choice! Enjoy!
Loving the one wheel take off - had me ducking!
Excellent Video, Excellent Planes, and Excellent Flying. Thank You Steve.
Many thanks!
Perfectly executed one-wheel touch and go!
Fun video ! 😃
Hope to see the 1700 on the water!
2 very nice RC planes and review Steve.
Commander I’d love to own both!!!! Going to check on availability right now👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼… to late 🤪🤪🤪🤣.. gone!!’
Larger plane looked easier to control than the smaller one. Great review and great planes.
Really nice airplanes Steve.....Very dossal........👍
I think the 1300mm makes more sense for Bush flying?
At least for me. Smaller and less weight. But then again, I'm still new and bush flying is not where I'm at yet.
I'll just keep practising with my lovely Apprentice 1.5.
Yes, i do love her very much. Slow flying in medium wind is something i really love.
Btw, i just got some foamy 75mm wheels instead of the original 65.
I found some ball bearing im going to fit into them.
@@Wings_of_foam eh kind of depends on skill level in some ways yeah it’s better but both would be very good. People really like the turbo timber by e flight for bush plane stuff and it’s a 1.5 if I remember correctly. The fact they’re STOL planes is really the difference maker for a bush plane set up.
With that said I own the 1700 and I own a 1300 carbon cub s2 and either I’d be just as nervous flying in a tight space being alittle above a beginner at this point.
Gotta love the Apprentice! Great flying plane.
Very cool planes Steve. Looks like a lot of fun to fly.
What a beauty
Good evening captain really nice plane's cool review
You sir are amazing! Straight to the point, no fluff, just facts. Just subscribed and I will be using your links to purchase both. My grandson is 1 1/2 and I am making him like a time capsule of R/C's. I have Losi Drag cars, Carbon Cub, Losi motorcycle, I have the RealFlight Evolution and I pre-ordered a 2023 Lionel Big Boy train. That young man will be set up.
Excellent! You will be a popular grandad for sure.
awsome video captain
Really decent prices nice set up
Always good information
I will stick with my beginner plane
Awesome 🤩
Wow you guys still have a lot of snow in Ontario. None here in Cape Breton unless your in the highlands. I’ve been trying to get this plane but they don’t ship it to Canada unless it’s on the Canadian site. So I bought a T 28 Trojan an f4U Corsair and the p51 mustang bbd. I have the horizon hobby s2 cub 1.3m
Sometimes you can get FMS planes via Great Hobbies in Canada.
My Timber X just had its last crash :( You should do a review on the new Timber with twin motors. I am not sure which one to buy and that would help me decide.
Too cool
Cool 😎🤝
How come you used carbon rod for the rear flap?
If I may ask, how rigid are the wings? Because I'm looking to buy a RC plane, this one came up, the 1700mm version. I'm planning to install solar panels on the wings and see if I can make it fly longer on a combination of battery and solar power. I found realy small but powerfull solar panels. With some extra tuning/changes, electronics etc this could be a great project.
Very solid/rigged wings
Steve, have you flown any of the planes you review with the floats they come with? Wondering what kind of performance or handling hit they encounter. Do the floats significantly reduce flying time?
Yes, flying with floats changes the CG and drag. In the winter we all fly with floats (if we don't install skis). Floats are perfect for snow take off and landings. On water they are exactly the same and you do get a bit less flight time and it is unwise to attempt flips and rolls without plenty of throttle.
It´s almost a VTOL😱
I'm curious whether you can use a 3 blade or 4 blade prop on the larger Cub.
Certainly. The prop is up to you when it comes to planes. The prop included with a plane is there for the best efficiency in flight but you can change it to whatever you like and experiment.
This is probably the one that I will get to get me started in RC Planes, Will the 1700 carry a full size action camera or at least a Action 2? The 1700 looks like I could strap my Mini 3 Pro on top for filming lol
I'm positively convinced smaller 1300mm will be able to handle usual GoPro sized camera just fine, just get CG right. Obviously extra weight and extra brick for areodynamics will affect the plane, both low speeds due to extra weight and top speed, due to extra drag.
@@Panocek Yes I am sure your correct. Would be cool if you can find a spot to put one without much drag or would be real cool if a DJI 03 system was added in the cockpit somehow
To answer your question... YES, you could put a full size GOPRO on the 1700, but only after you have been flying for several months as you'll have to compensative for the weight in your flying skills.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks Captain it is a pretty sweet looking bird👍
How did you determine flight time?
I’m flying my 1300mm with 2200 3s 11.1v. The manual says make the first flight a safe 4mins. If you’re getting 15mins then 4mins is very safe. I wanna fly longer but don’t want to drop it out of the sky.
Flight time is based on how much effort from the motor the plane needs to fly. These planes require next to no power, so if you fly scale at slow speeds, you can fly for over 10 min. Also if you are new to planes and worried about battery voltage you can buy off of AMAZON, or your local hobby store, a low voltage monitor. It is very time and plugs into the balance cable of the battery. You set what voltage you want the alarm to go off at (such as 3.5 Volts per cell), then when that voltage is hit, the device makes a very loud beeping sound.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks for the reply! Good stuff to know. I am fairly new to it - since Christmas. So 10.5 total (3.5 per cell) is where you would want to stop flying. Cause the other thing is I don't know is what is danger zone low voltage on 2200mah 11.1v 3s 40c - is the 3.5V alarm based on that battery?
@@silknoakif a battery has two cells or eight cells and the battery is a lipo, the cells are all the same voltage, so the product works with any lipo battery. Here is a link to the Canadian site but you can find it on AMAZON in your country: amzn.to/47MzU9t
Cool so the danger zone is always 3.5 per cell? Cheers
Sorry accidentally two different accounts going here.
I’m deciding which of these two planes I’m going to buy at the moment, so this video couldn’t have come at a better time. Which do you think will handle landing on bumpy ground better? If the 1700 had air filled tires I think that would be the obvious choice but the fact that it doesn’t makes me think the 1300 might be better?
Both are fine for landing on an uneven surface for two reasons:
1. You can land with very slow speed
2. If desired you can program in the ESC, reverse thrust to stop instantly
You’d be happy with either version. Also, if desired you could always replace the wheels on the 1700 to a soft compound.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Thanks mate :) yes you’re right I could change the wheels on the 1700. That will probably be the way to go!
@@Jakefrc As 1300mm owner, I think 1700 version probably would be better because of quick-er detachable wings for transport. Both planes need to remove 4 screws per wing, which isn't an issue, issue lies with cables in 1300. So, either you replace wheels to pneumatic ones in 1700 or you figure out some quick disconnect for wires in 1300.
Still, flies well and gyro is handy. And can be wired to a 3pos switch, so you can enable and disable it at will, using channel 5th in the radio.
@@Panocek I ended up getting the 1700, it’s a great plane. I will probably get some pneumatic tires when something suitable is available. The dubro ones are both too heavy and too stiff.
@@Jakefrc Look into the skynetic bison wheels. They are pneumatic and much lighter than dubro
Hello. I’m envious you’re able to fly. I’m a MAAC member (RC plane and helicopter flyer and instructor), but am currently unable to fly due to Airspace use regulations per Transport Canada and NavCan. How are you managing to fly in the Ottawa area? I assume you have your Advanced RPAS license?
I'm a drone pilot which means I've followed TC's rules since day one. The rules are not restrictive and I have no issues flying RC Planes, RC Helicopters, FPV Drones and GPS Camera Drones all within them.
Is the 1700mm PA-18 a durable airplane?
Yes. Good foam construction. It would survive the typical hard landing without issue, but if you fly it nose into the ground, something will break & you’ll need some FOAMTAC glue to get it back into original condition.
you mention you get more than 10minutes on the 1700 but how about the 1300?
2200 is best for flight time. A 1500 would give you 5 mins.
What controller should I use Steve? I’ve got the plane coming. I went with the smaller one. Thanks.
I’m in LOVE with Spektrum radios and Receivers so I’d recommend a Spektrum NX6 or NX8.
Hey Steve, I do have a mambo controller and I’m not sure, but will that work
@@dyna-drone1952 mambo is crossfire, isn’t it? You’d need a special crossfire receiver.
Hey Steve, thanks for the help on trying to figure out how to do this. I want to head and decided to cancel the order at this time till I can save up enough money to get a good receiver and transmitter.
Hey Steve, guess what I didn’t get a chance to cancel it so it’s coming anyway so I’ll just have it and put it all together and wait until I get a receiver and transmitter so I can take it out and fly it
👍👍
how does the carbon cub s2 compare with this fms 1300?
Carbon cub is less advanced, but easier to fly for beginners
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 which plane has longer flight times?
@@vracan The carbon cub flies slower, so it has the longer flight time
What brand battery’s
Any brand is fine
They fly really scale! I would be interesting to get the larger version and repaint it so it looks like "Scrappy", Mike Patey's Super Cube.
Why?
@@murrijuana2842 Why not?
Great video but could you answer my other comments on your other video on the radio master 12 mk2 please
I get almost a thousand comments/emails per day so if something is not answered you now know why.
1700 mm is 6 ft?? Canadian feet?? 😅😅
You’re aware it’s wingspan right?
@@user-rh9hn1gi3w How is that different?
You might choose to lighten up on the coffee before filming these videos … good work.
I need coffee to keep the body warm 👍
