I’d like to know this because I’m in the movie fallen and hoards of strangers hate me and let me know it every day. I mean I’ve literally crawled into a hole to die and they’re still not happy. Because I’m a Christian. People hate you then. You would think you were the most low life gangster scum involved in the criminal underworld and you have one of those red rooms on the dark web in your basement. I’m a Christian. That’s it. And I’m treated like the scum of the earth because of it. No one has any place calling a Christian weak. I’m telling you now. The person who can face a firing squad without retaliating and forgive them and warn them and assured of the knowledge they will rise again and they give you one last chance to make things right has more courage than a thousand men who hide behind the trigger acting like they are big tough guys you do not want to deal with. I do not want to misrepresent God. But people need to recognise effectively that’s what He did. In a contemporary vernacular. And the thing is if you saw that in a Tarentino film and it was Bruce Willis or in John Wick or something all you satanists and witches and warlocks would think it was bad ass. You’ve been given an ultimatum basically to get right with Him. You only understand the language of violence. Frankly so did my dog. Rolled up newspaper smack on the nose he behaved and you’re human beings acting the same way. And it’s just like you really don’t know who He is and you think it’s Ned Flanders and you need to sober up and wise up frankly…!
This film is so amazingly convincing, it feels so totally real. The dialogues are great, and Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke are so good in their roles. This series is a masterpiece. Back then, in 1995, I would have never watched the first film in the cinema - I would have died with boredom. But today, being more mature and having a different view of life, I can't get enough of it and I am totally fascinated.
Hawke's playing is so real! He seems more focused on pinball than dialogue! I think pinball rounds were not scripted and Linklater just said them "tell the lines and and play as you can"...
Celine was certainly neurotic. And self aware as well as she observed the same while reading jesse’s book. She’s not the most perfect loveable French girl every guy would dream of. It’s the same reason her ex lovers did not commit wholly, and she had to handle some unexplained sort of rejection that can, many a times, be really frustrating. But it’s only real, so it’s acceptable.
It becomes progressively more pronounced over the course of the three films. They are both cute and charming in Sunrise, but, slowly, they become less likable as they get older. Give Linklater credit, he takes a huge risk to show how most people get stuck in their ways as they age.
