I'm amazed about how the the actors do this...how can they act and not look as if they are acting. I've watched this film so many times, and even just now finished watching it again this evening. There mannerisms, the words, the gestures are absolutely real.
I agree. The two of them make it look so easy. Like watching pro tennis players. You think to yourself, 'I could do that'. It's truly an amazing talent.
It's 2020 and there are many comments of more than a decade ago..11 years ago comments are also here.. How time flies and masterpieces are masterpieces always! This series has my heart...
After watching Before Sunrise in 1995, I got kind of depressed. Many people know the feeling of being a little hurt when a book or a movie comes to an end, because you get "back to reality" - like waking up from a nice dream - and can't stay in the universe of the characters that you have been sucked into and enjoyed so much. But we all get over it after a few minutes. With Sunrise, it was different. I couldn't accept that I was left to make my own decision on what would happen/happened six month after there at the station in Vienna and thus, I suffered for nine years. I was literally jumping from joy in the seat in which I sat in a local train the day in 2004 when I read in a paper that Sunset was on its way. My god, what a relief! It felt *so* satisfying the following days researching and realising that not only many fans around the world but also the actors and Linklater had had a feeling all the time that there was something unfinished - as July also puts it. That there was a need to tell the untold story about what happened with Jesse and Celine after Sunrise. I was on the egde of the seat that day at the theatre. Learning what had happened - even though it was a sad story - will always remain one of the biggest moments of my life. And realising that Jesse wrote his book in a desperate attempt to find Celine - and that he actually made it - was as beautiful and real-life romantic as anything. I think that Sunset, because of this long awaited "orgasm" of a exposure, makes it the best in the trilogy to me. I believe that now I know how people who experience a loved one disappearing and being found dead, but without knowing the cause of death, feel when they finally get to know the truth about how the relative died. Ok, I know it might sound like a crazy comparison - but the point is that, to me, it didn't really matter *what* happened at the Station in Vienna on December 16 1995. What mattered was to *know* what happened! I love Midnight also. It's intense, real, provocative and another masterpiece of reminding us that everything is in the now. That you can't rely on yesterday's happiness and romance; There's always a now and a reality to accept and the past only exists in our minds. Midnight isn't feel-good escapism - it's reality right there in front of you. It's provocative art more than a romantic movie! After Sunset, I wasn't craving a follow-up as much. Still I was quite excited about the release of Midnight and wouldn't be without it. I don't know how I will feel about it that there won't be a "Before Noon" or whatever in 2022. I think I might have some withdrawal symptoms. But is there still a (important) story to tell about Jesse and Celine? What do other Before fans think...?
I was at the Pompidou museum in Paris when I stumbled into an exhibition on Richard Linklater’s work. There was all this behind the scenes stuff and even the auditions from this trilogy. And I only later saw the movies. Kinda feels like these stories fell into my lap. Now I miss those times and Paris. How I love these films...
These films are so well crafted, I find myself pondering if the actors were ever lovers. Watching these clips it's clear the trio (Hawke, Delpy and Linklater) are very compatible ( the entire team have rare simpatico) and very gifted actors/writers.
The first film really stuck with me because it reminds me of interrailing through Europe in the 1990s. Catches the feeling of those days and brings back memories.
I'm at once elated and terrified that they're making another sequel. I'm a romantic and I don't want my hopes dashed that they didn't stay together, that he left on a later plane and returned. At the same time, I'd love to revisit these characters. They're like old friends you only get to visit with years at a time...
These 2 movies "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset" are so exquisite. It has this natural flow of conversation that is wonderful. Is it Time to Make a 3rd one....? Dunno, it might turn out very disappointing or a disaster.... but who knows...the 3 of them came up with such an amazing script for the 2nd one, they might do even better the 3rd time round... okay Im not certain IF I want another one.
@New4day The ending suits perfect to preview movie.. its like you said, it tests us if are romantic or cynic.. and the amazing thing is that, the question is ask in the beginning of the movie were he is at the bookstore... a simple and great film!
@Mariedogg Looks like there will be a third one, according to AICN and IMDB. You do still want to see a sequel, I hope. It's been three years since you left your comment. : D
The best part of the sequel was that it was left serene... unspoiled with fairy tale reconnaissance or the ending for that matter. While the whole world moved on, the characters picked up just where they had left it. Kudos to Linklater for he has moved so many hearts. Just for the record, more than romance.... I did enjoy the real conversation as well. And July Delpy is still stunning and smart.
for people who ask for part 3 of the movie doesn't know this is not a typical love story movie and doesn't know what is the meaning of life,'before sunrise' is a perfect movie,i am glad 'before sunset' didn't ruin that movie but this is enough, good enough to stop right there, one more step is gonna ruin everything, both movie got the ambigious ending and that is perfect, because it give us plenty of room to imagine, you want a happy ending love story, you're watching the wrong movie.
The ending of the first one was perfect. For me, undoubtedly, they would stay together. And then this one killed me. I can't be happy not knowing. So much more is at stake, it really could happen either way. And I don't like that. I mean, the movie was perfect and I understand the ending, and the "film director" part of me would have done it exactly this way, but then the indecisive "dreamer" part of me demands to know. Either way, both movies, perfect.
Hah! I felt totally opposite you - but that was because I didn't tell my self that I "knew" they would even meet after six months. To me, it was obvious that - without having exchanged phone numbers og anything - it could go terribly wrong! And I was right. It puzzles me that you felt so sure they would meet again after the first movie and that you after the second one doubted it. To me, it was clear that after the second movie, they would of course not leave eachother without being able to get in touch. (And *if* they weren't to be together, they would be able to agree on that like adults with no one getting (too) hurt.) Nevertheless, 100% opposite you, I had very little doubt that they would finally become the couple they never became nine years earlier. Sunset totally showed that they were truly meant for eachother; the positive thing about (Celine) blowing the Vienna deal was, that this time they (especially Jesse imo) had "stood the test of times" to truly prove to them selves that they were meant to be. True love.
@Artfryne I know, its hard to say. I cant say one way or the other but i always think about the other film after watching one of them. Before Sunrise is one of the all time great romance movies and the two of them together makes the very best movie of it kind!! I hope they make a part 3.
'before sunrise' was the first movie with the perfect ending, after about 9 years they made the second movie "before sunset" and the ending is also perfect,i don't know why people still ask for another movie, because they have to see a happy ending like they finally live together? these people totally get it wrong, this movie is not about love is about life, especially if you put both movie together and you'll see:this is about our life, dream, age and time, about chance, choice, fate and unknown.
The third sequel refined everything. Traditionally if a movie did have a sequel two it becomes chessy and crap, but this one or three I would say standed the test of time. The acting, the script, the cinematography and everything is a masterpiece itself. It feels so real and intimate. This become my standard of a romantic movie.
I'm amazed about how the the actors do this...how can they act and not look as if they are acting. I've watched this film so many times, and even just now finished watching it again this evening. There mannerisms, the words, the gestures are absolutely real.

What do other Before fans think...?
I think that those stories of characters in films are also connected to their creators in interesting way.
Before Sunrise and Before Sunset are surely giving me a lot of thoughts about life.
Dude, this trilogy is just, i dont know. What a ride. i just saw the whole trilogy this past week
Cant wait for the third part such great films, I hope it happens.
It did happen🥰
Hello I'm from the future, it did happen. Titled before midnight ( 2013)

They wanted 4/5 films?! Hell yes!! I bet we'd all sign up for more gems from this iconic trio ❤❤❤
I JUST WATCHED THE TRILOGY. MY HEART IS BROKEN. HELP
Where can I find Before Midnight.... I only have the first 2 😢
Why is it broken? Didn't it end quite well?
Nice jump from the cat at around 6:55.
oh yeah lol
I just noticed the same thing, and then i thought: well, it's 2021, that cat should be long gone by now.

Maybe when they're 70, they'll make "Before Bedtime."
Time to make the 4th movie!
the ending is sad to me. but i love how these movies leave a deep impression to me
I guess the ambigious ending is meant
to be, so that we can find out if we
are romantics or cynics!
not ambiguous any more haha, but I guess now the question is do they stay together after before midnight?

Before Midnight...may 24th!! Cant wait
Where can I find Before Midnight, only managed to get the first 2....

I just watched the making of of Before Sunrise and they were talking about 4/5 films there. I do hope we get to see them every 9 years once or twice.
Nah. The story is complete as the three films. I'm happy the way it was done.
@@ADifferentVibe yeah plus they already released the before trilogy so its not going to be more than that
Definitely make a sequel to this movie!!!!!
I find it interesting (and slightly disconcerting) that Celine speaks better English than Julie.
Script helps?
I could speak a lot of languages if I had a script and time to practice.
yes please do 3 or 4 or 5 films!!!
Why not they have the chemistry the writing and acting talent

@dufrhd5 Before Sunset is already a sequel to Before Sunrise. And the first film is just brilliant.
