- A Few Minutes of Fun
In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between ten and twenty minutes usually, depending what we're playing with.
Today I'm playing with layered stamping of wildflowers and meadowgrasses over the Spritz and Flick Distress Ink backgrounds from a couple of weeks ago. (Find that Spritz and Flick video here - • A few minutes of fun..... )
Stamps in action:
PaperArtsy Eclectica Alison Bomber - EAB38 Umbellifers Edition
Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous:
Nature's Discovery CMS049 (meadow grasses on first tag)
Anthology CMS026 (flock of birds)
Nature's Moments CMS001 (wildflower stem on third tag)
Penny Black - Berry Tree (4342K)
Inks:
Ranger Archival - Olive, Watering Can
Ranger Distress Inks - Scorched Timber, Rustic Wilderness
Embossing Powder:
Wow - Earthtone Pepper - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Line the base of the stems up “ish” you say…. PERFECTLY 🥰. Love these 🤍🤍🤍
Lucky shot! Doesn't always work out so perfectly. If you've got clear stamps then you've a better guarantee, but I really (really) prefer rubber to clear stamps. I must take another look at these and see if any of them want to have anything added over the top.
Great cute card. I love your style…..straight, precise, pre organized , to the point. no gossip no chatter. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the great feedback - happy you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Such beautiful little tags. I’ve certainly enjoyed watching and learning. I will have to look at my stash and see what combo I can come up with since I don’t have all the images (stamps) that you do. I really do love how you create your art pieces, teaching us step by step. Thanks so much for sharing. ♥️🙏🏼
Absolutely... whatever you've got in your stash will do - I'm sure you'll come up with something that works. It needn't be meadowgrasses or even nature-based, of course... use whatever kind of imagery you enjoy.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, and for your company on the creative journey.
Gentle, soothing and colorful tag play. Oh, how wonderful to watch you in action. Thank you.❤❤❤

@scarlettwarren I'm so sad I haven't seen this until now - as I say, there's no notification of responses, so I've finally worked out how to filter the comments so that I can see if there are replies to replies. Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I'm grinning from ear to ear reading it!
Such a beautiful result! The spritz and flick gave such an ethereal background ❤

Thank you so much!
Beautiful in one word wow
Thank you so much!
Such beautiful pieces of art!
Thank you so much... now to decide what (if anything) else they need next!
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Thank you!
Please please please do a video on your spritz and flick backgrounds. I'm just starting with distress sprays and would love the assistance.
Looks like you found it... and if so, you can see the technique actually uses ink pads rather than sprays. There are some spray videos on the way, as well as a couple already available where I use the sprays.
These are gorgeous, and can I ask where you bought you lovely top, it's beautiful. Thanks
Glad you like them, thank you! You can ask, but it's not going to help you much, I'm afraid... I bought the top from Marks & Spencer's Per Una range about thirty years ago (I have it in two different colours, but I'm keeping them both!!).
Wonderful 😍😍😍
I only have Distress Oxides. Can I stamp with Oxides as well?
Thank you for sharing!
You can definitely stamp with the Oxides, but bear in mind that, like the Distress Inks, they are not permanent. They will continue to react and move if other moisture goes over them, unless you emboss them - maybe with clear embossing powder - just to seal them. Hope that helps, and happy that you enjoyed the video.
Brilliant. Do you know if it works as well or nearly as well if you make your own tags?
Thank you. How the technique works will depend on your paper quality. These are not Ranger tags, but they are very similar - and the card has a slight sheen to the surface. It's very smooth.
If you've got very absorbent card or paper (eg like a cut-up File Folder, which tends to have a rough surface) then it will grab the ink in a different way. You may like the results, you may not... you'll just have to experiment!
There are some detailed Ink/Oxide videos coming soon, where I talk in lots more detail about things like surfaces and products, so watch out for those.
Thank you for letting me know. I greatly look forward to your future videos.
Love the tags. But I’m new to this. What would you do with these?
Happy to hear you like them - they're probably not finished yet! The joy of a tag (as Tim Holtz will say) is that it's a really pressure-free base to create on, meaning you can play and experiment and try things out without worrying you're going to break the bank. And they're small, so you can't make the excuse that there's no time! But they don't have to be just for experimenting and playing.
You could use them as a layer in a journal page; if you're a card-maker (I'm not), you could cut the top off and mount them as top panel on a card (or keep the tag as it is on the card); you could use them as bookmarks; you could give them to a friend with a gift voucher attached; you could use them as a tag on a parcel. Anything you like really.
For me, they are a piece of art as they are - I tend to keep them around, sometimes in small crates on display (take a look at my Shorts for what I mean), for flipping through for inspiration or just for pleasure. Hope that gives you some ideas.
Please, is there a secret? Last night I tried this on some manilla tags I had made, and they didn't come out at all like yours. I used Distress ink pads, the same sponge blender thingys and they look just awful.. Splotchy and the paper balled up in spots. I had fun, but the results were less than....thank you for the inspiration to try!
The most likely culprit is the paper you used. If you made your tags from, for instance, a manila file folder, they are often quite rough quality card, and much more absorbent. That means the ink soaks in, creating those splotches you mention, rather than moving across the surface. These craft manila tags have quite a smooth sheen to the surface which allows the ink to move more easily.
I'll talk about all these sorts of details more in upcoming inky videos, but for now I would try out different paper surfaces; try varying the amount of ink on the sponge; make sure you come in from the edge of the tag to start with rather than starting in the middle.
Hope that helps for now, have a play, experiment, and hopefully you'll find a combination that works better for you. Glad you had fun even so!!
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!!! Yes, I used manila folders cut down, that's it! I'm very much looking forward to more of your videos, it's like sitting with a knowledgeable crafting friend and playing. AND improving my skills....wowee!
@@ooman56 Wow - that was a good guess on my part!! Thank you so much for this lovely comment.
