I live in Thailand and have a 13 hp longtail motor that has a vibration at idle then smooths out under load. Getting ready to take it apart and had no idea what I was getting into. Seems pretty straight forward. Thanks for this video. Makes my job easier. I’ll keep watching.
Wow! I never realized how long they were, it reminds me a lot of working on Shindaiwa weed whacker shafts back in the day. I assumed there was a difference in bushings but never would have guessed bamboo!
I wonder how the splined piece is attached to the main long drive shaft tubing Seems certain the bearings were pressed into the tube first Then the driven shaft was slipped into the tube Where I am lost is what next ? Or possibly the tubes have the bearings installed then slipped together deeply Then after the drive shaft is completed The tubed made to final length then welded This is something I would like to know And what holds the splined drive shaft from moving backwards and falling out of the engine ?
Good info hey bud maybe you can help me the plastic bushing in my shaft melted so I bought the bayou bushing and I'm having problems getting the other one out but I didn't know for sure that I could take that whole shift apart and get it back together rightso if I take the whole shift apart I should be able to get it back together okay? The reason it melted I was running it out of the water cuz it was every once in awhile would make a loud noise and I couldn't tell if it was coming from the motor or coming from the shaft and maybe I can send you the video and let you listen to it and you could probably tell me what it is there's nobody else can tell me what it is I would appreciate it thanks
I recommend unfortunately a whole shaft replacement it’s very difficult to get these back together once you take them apart especially being the internal wood bushings that will likely be destroyed when you take it apart. Try everything you can to get that and bushing off Well like I said you likely gonna have to have a shaft replacement and once you get your new shaft then replace your end bushings before you get it out on the water it’s very easy
