For the last 2 yrs. I have tried several you tube videos for banana bread. I have tried recipes for bb from relatives, friends, magazines, cook 📚. I love my dad he's a great cook never measures. So i seen your dads banana bread and figured if it comes out like my dads food it will be perfect. I made 2 loaves hands down it is the greatest i have ever tasted. I used 🍯 in mine. I will cherish this bb recipe for the rest of my life. Thx u so much
Cried happy tears when I saw the potato masher come out just because it’s one of those crazy-cute-makes-no-sense-yet makes-all-the-sense-in-world things our parents do that we fondly remember them for. Today we call them “hacks” but they are soooo much more than that. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Never seen you before today; so glad I found your video and channel.
Christine, the first time I watched your video, the cinnamon and nutmeg combination threw me off but I was determined to try it. This banana bread is CRAZY GOOD just like you said. So delicious and moist. Thank you for sharing one of the most delicious I have had in my life, I'm 72 years young and THANKS Tony!
My oven at 350 degrees took longer than 25 minutes. I followed the instructions to the letter. It smells incredible and I can’t wait to taste. I used fresh nutmeg. I love the aroma of fresh nutmeg. I used pure vanilla. Anytime I have three ripened bananas I will be looking for this recipe to make my banana nut bread. Oh I also used walnuts. I’ll let you know when I taste it how it came out. Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipe.
Greeks are notorious for not sharing their recipes. My mom always skips out all kinds of ingredients and when I tell her I made the recipe and it sucked she always says, no worries agapi mou I will make you some LOL. Thanks to your channel I have mastered quite of a few of her recopies and I wouldn't dare tell her that yours are better. I have always been proud of you, back in the days with CTV when you had a cooking show I was always saying now there is a great Greek chef who does things right. I am so happy that you are sharing your dads recopies and of course Greek traditional ones with everyone. You ROCK!! Keep them coming :)
Thank you for sharing you amazing comments. I totally agree and my dad would be so happy that you are enjoying it as much as we do. Be well and see you in the kitchen
Christine, I tried Dad's recipe for Banana Cake and it is the BEST! I have never had a banana cake so moist and so delicious! I have to agree with your husband - it is the BEST BANANA CAKE! It is so easy to make and delicious! Thank you for sharing!
I love the potato masher.. it reminded me of how my 85yr old Mum.use to bake and cook.. just improvise... lol. The whole nutmeg brought up memories of my Mum using it and grating it for a steamed pudding she use to make. I hvnt seen that done since I was a kid.. lol. My Mum was also phenomenal at baking and nvr had recipes either. I've quizzed her on her recipes too. 💓
Hi Christine! 1. Go ahead and adjust your recipe list to include the eggs you incorporated! 2. Letting you know that I tried your recipe and it is DIVINE!!!!! GOSSHH the smell of the batter and the kitchen while it bakes is HEAVENLY!!! Hats off to you and your father for this most delightful recipe. 😍 I added a bit of ground ginger to the spice mix and replaced some of the AP flour with Almond meal. Caribbean girl Approved 👍🏽👍🏽
Hello! I've made this yesterday and everybody liked it :) You were right, I used a big baking tray instead of 3 little ones, and mine got a little burnt outside and (my opinion) too moist on the inside. Will be looking to purchase smaller trays as i find them useful. I also used a tbs of honey and sprinkled nuts and dark chocolate chips in the batter. Thanks for the recipe!
Ohh!! Thanks for sharing this recipe. I baked today and am very happy . In fact I need to go to the kitchen and cut another slice. That’s how nice the banana bread is. Nice; moist and 😋
@@ChristineCushing I have just landed in my kitchen with more bananas and of course THREE small baking tins. I also bought normal plain flour. I want to bake same cake for my extended family tomorrow evening. Yesterday I used plain gluten free flour coz of my intolerance to gluten. Close to Xmas, I am thinking of twicking the recipe a bit by using treacle and also baptise the cake with RUM. What do you think?🤷🏽♀️ Anyway, you can’t stop me because I already bought the treacle. I will talk to Mr “Amazon” to deliver a DRUM of Rum for me. If you don’t hear from me after Xmas, just remember “THE DRUM OF RUM”🤣😂🤣😂
Christine, you hit the nail on the the head! I've been making banana bread from a traditional recipe. My recipe calls for 4 bananas, and I too use the very dark ones, sometimes only 60% spotted, but all so ripe. I never use a traditional bread pan. That would require about an hour and 10 minutes to fully bake, and in that process to get the heat to reach into the enter to fully bake the batter, the heat is beating on the outer layer, making the bread dry, and crusty. What I did to minimize the dryness was to use a four loaf mini baking pan made by Wilton, the bakeware company. So I divide my batter into the four sections, and ONLY bake for 40 minutes. It is n longer called bread. It's called cake...it is that moist. The outer skin layer is as moist as the inner, just like cake should be. The crumb is very moist, yet airy, and when you cut a slice, if you squeeze it, you could hear the moisture smacking if you hold it close to your ear. It truly is cake. Now here's another twist of the banana cake.I love spice cake that I made from scratch. The spices called for powdered ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh grated ginger. So I figured the right proportions of these spices, added them to my banana bread mixture, and I made a spice cake. Kinda lost the banana flavor, yet it still provided the tender texture we expect, but oh boy was it delicious, if you like spice cake. Then you could drizzle a small amount of powdered sugar icing to dress it up. Christine, THUMBS UP!!!!!!!
You are so sweet and so warm just like the cake, I enjoyed watching you make the cake and eating it too, such happiness on your face, God bless your dad
I just made it into cupcakes so that it is easier for my kids to bring it to school as snack. Left with 2 ripe bananas but the consistency is like yours. I reduced the sugar and used ground nutmeg powder. No apple butter but added honey. I added chocolate chips to some. When the cake was done, the smell was heavenly. Thank you Christine for sharing your family recipe. Oh, I don't have a potato masher and used a fork instead. By the way, I enjoy watching your foodie TV shows.
Thank you soooo much for sharing your father's recipe. Our 5yr son made this today, and it was absolutely amazing. We used chocolate chips and honey. It was soft inside and crispy on the outside just the way we ❤️ it!
Just made it.... listen I’ve tried many recipes and this is the best. Moist, flavourful, not too sweet. My only adjustment was a tad bit more flour as my batter was too soft. Absolutely delish! 😋
Ever since I discovered this recipe I only make this. My grand nephew is 5 yrs old & he eats it everyday after school. He loves it. Thu you for this amazing recipe.
I’m going to make this later! Looks sooo good. I don’t understand why the recipes I have seen don’t use baking powder only baking soda. I use both when making banana muffins. I love the way you scrape clean your bowl😋. You don’t waste anything. I always yell at the other cooking foodies I’m watching who leaves so much stuffs in their bowls🤣 Thanks for sharing. God bless & stay safe!
Hi Christine, I’m from Pakistan but currently residing in Saudi Arabia. I simply love your dad’s recipe of banana bread. And I couldn’t help laughing about using the potato masher to mix. Just loved it, and I will try it just like this. Keep sharing your delicious recipes please. Amazing
Just took 2 (1 - 8x8 cake pan & 1 - 5x9.5 loaf pan to equal your 3 mini pans) banana breads out of the oven! Not a fan of cinnamon, so cut it to .75 tsp & guessed about amount of nutmeg powder (you say "whatever is in the kitchen" - well, who has nutmeg nuts on hand?) at 1/4 tsp. w a smigden missing. From a suggestion in another Comment, I put in 1/3 cup Dark Choco Chips and also added chopped walnuts to one pan. And, I've never before gone w black skin bananas! (2) until your video gave me courage to try ! & one 70% black one. WOW! moist & springy w a hint of spice. Luv it!
The technique! Yes! I get this! Your dad was an intuitive genius chef! Thank you for sharing! I wiil remember him when I bake this. Ill use the same technique for my pumkin bread as well. I make both every fall. No more Kitchen aid! I bake mini banana and pumpkin breads for about 100 teachers each Fall for Thanksgiving! They recieved one of each! Ill pass this on. Thank you.
I'm a ok cook ,so during this time I thought it would to look up new recipes. I found your channel and knew it would be a good after watching the video for Banana cake. I made and it changed my life! Thank for sharing. I love anything with lemon so I will make the Greek potatoes next
Christine, when you took the banana loaves out of the oven, I could almost smell them! I LOVE banana bread; can't wait to try your Dad's recipe. Yummers, many thanks❣
Omg it was the best banana bread ever only thing I changed was the nutmeg I wasn’t going to Malaysia to pick it up so I used ground lol but I was delicious Thankyou for sharing your dad’s guessing recipe 🙏
Hello Christine - Maggie from Zimbabwe in Africa - thanks so much for sharing your dad’s banana bread loaf recipe. I baked it today and it came out beautifully n the taste is just yummy yummy and I used ground Nutmeg.
I tried this recipe over the thanksgiving weekend in Canada. Of course, I used maple syrup to substitute the apple butter. It came out moist, light and had the perfect sweetness balance. I tried many banana bread recipes before, and this one is by far the best result I have had as a non-regular okay-ish home cook. Thank you Tony for sharing your recipe with your wonderful and charming daughter. For viewers looking for bake time on regular loaf pans (I couldn't find the smaller ones that Christine suggests in the recipe), I baked at 350F on a conversation oven with the fan on for 55 minutes, then baked for another 15 mins on about 320-325F because the top started burning more than my liking but the batter was still quite uncooked at 55 mins on the toothpick test. If you're adding chocolate chips to the recipe, be aware that the toothpick test will rarely come out clean because of the melted chocolate. Better to stick to the timer and then tap on the top of the bread to see if it bounces back. The toothpick test works well if you're not adding chocolate. Happy baking everyone! :D
Tried Tony's Easy Banana cake recipe and it turn out very yummy. The thought of using Apple butter sounds interesting mix. I cooked some apple to make it more like apple Jam texture as replacement for Apple Butter. Still turn out good. Thank you so much for this recipe.
Hi 👋😀 I totally agree with your Dad that the potatoes masher was the right tool to mash bananas for this beautiful banana 🍞 bread recipe and thank you so much for sharing the beautiful recipe and sharing the beautiful video @My Favourite Foods Christine Cushing 👍👍😀😀🍞🍞😋😋🌹🌹❤️❤️
Thank you so much for the beautiful red heart and thank you so much for enjoying my messages and comments @ Christine Cushing My Favourite Recipes👍👍😀😀❤️❤️🌹🌹
You are definitely wonderful! I just made this recipe from you, for the first time this marvelous banana bread came perfect from the oven. No words enough to say thank you! Now I’m going to enjoy it with my family! ❤️😍💕🥰🌷🌷🌷🌷
Wow another great recipe! Thank you Christine, for your info I use the potato masher too but only to mash the bananas, I then put them in muffin tins. I have been looking for another banana recipe for a few years now, this is it for me.
Hi, just want to said thank you for the recipe, I have bake this twice now and I love it. I have added sour cream too. Did wanted to throw away..thank you again..
That is exactly how I make mine! If I don't have sour cream, I had a little plain or vanilla yogurt.I can't believe I found a recipe that is almost exactly like mine!I freeze the bananas in the skin,Then I cut the bottom off and just squeeze it Into the bowl. Easy peasy!
Hello Christine tried your Dads recipe for banana bread it is the best banana bread I have ever tried! I could not find apple butter l used the maple syrup to and it was fantastic!!!Hope you are staying safe and well in all this pandemic stuff! Thanks Christine!!
My apologies for the late response as I just noticed your comment. I'm so glad you loved my dad's banana bread and yes we are doing ok . Wishing you a great holiday.
Thanks Tony! That’s crazy but you know I’m making it this week. How long would three of these last in my house? Let’s see, one for hubby, one for me and one for whoever comes by for tea. Oh wait, no one is coming during the quarantine so let’s recalculate 😆 Boo yah. Another spectacular recipe. Love ya, thanks Christine.
I watched a few banana bread making videos and I found yours the most interesting! I was so invested into the story of how your Dad made this & I'm definitely going to make it myself! What I love best was the simplicity of the method used - I wouldn't have thought to use a potato masher either lol! 🥰
@@mizzpoetrics thank you so much ! I really know you will love it. I felt the story is so important to the entire recipe so I’m glad you felt it. Enjoy
I made the recipe substituted butter with olive oil and apple butter with maple syrup and cinnamon and fresh nutmeg with apple pie spice into four small loaves. I ate a slice almost immediately. It is indeed the best banana bread that I have ever made!
Christine you are so sweet, sharing your dad's recipe. Thank you so much, we learn from people like you to be generous. Can you please show me how to make Apple cider vinegar, I am waiting to make it, I failed the first time and I want to make it again but want to learn the correct way, please teach me, thank you so much.
Not a fan of bananas too often but I do love them for making homemade banana ice cream. I have a small cast iron loaf pan. I plan to get more for baking. In the freezer, should last a couple months I think. Could even make in cast iron muffin pan. Will have to try soon with bananas I have in freezer. Will replace quickly because ice cream in summer is a must.
I did it!! I made your dad’s banana cake with the masher!! It turned out so yummy❣️ My three small loaves turned out incredible! Christine thanks so much!
Wow!!! I just saw your beautiful recipe from your wonderful dad!!! Thanks, dad for teaching you and thank you for sharing with us!!! THE POTATO MASHER, WAS THE KICKER,, MADE THINGS SO EASY!!! I LOVED THE FACT, THAT YOU SAID , 1) USE VERY BROWN BANANA 2) just mash the banana up!!! All the spices was the kicker!!! Thanks, for saying,, no applesauce!!! AGAIN. , 😊 🙏 BLESSING TO THE MEMORIES OF YOUR BANANA BREAD MAKING 🍞 FATHER😇👍!!!
Hi Christine, greetings from Cape Town! Made your dad's delicious banana bread today, for Sunday afternoon tea and it was perfect! Thanks so much for all the great video recipes.
I made it today, adding one teaspoon cinnamon powder and walnuts, baked for 35 minutes. It was so tasty and moist. Thank you very much for this recipe, Christine. Cheers from Melbourne, Australia 💝
To get her mother's recipe for Tea Biscuits, my mother had to take the ingredients from her, just before they went into the bowl and measure them. I use pretty nasty over ripe bananas too. As well as being really sweet, they're also more banana-y and yes, I have some saved up in the freezer too. Looking forward to trying your recipe. Thanks Christine.
Yum. I happen to have over ripened Bananas in my freezer so can hardly wait to try your Dad's recipe. I just found you today and started saving your videos. One question, why would anyone give this a thumbs down. I love you in Christ. Hugs from smokey California.
I love watching your channel. I'm new with you. I think your dad, Tony, has it right. Using the potato masher. Thanks for sharing the recipe and some hints that make this bread special. God bless!
I have to say I admire the way you scrape all the ingredients from your vessel ....I get so angry with these "cooking fundies" that leave half the mixes in their bowls......waste drives me insane 😜
I was thinking the very same thing, that is a pet peav of mine. To begin with, they spoon it in by spoonfuls, then leave half the food in the pot or bowl!
I wish I could cook and enjoy the food you make. I love all of the recipes you make. I actually cry with joy from your videos. Christine, love you so much, you have such a great personality on your tubes and your cooking is absolutely---to go crazy over, in such a good way--- go crazy to eat...😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow superb recipe mam👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I literally just made it like today! It turned out to be ammmmmmmazing!!!!!! I just love this recipe and I made cake for the first time😇thank you for the amazing recipe 👍🏻
Christine! Once again, I thank you! I have spotted bananas that my kids won't eat, BUT THEY *WILL* EAT BANANA BREAD! Happy Easter, from Sitka, Alaska ❤
Ahhh! First the lemony potatoes and now this amazing banana bread! I made it last night and so...it's halfway done. I don't know why I keep finding myself back in the kitchen for another jumbo-sized "sliver". 😂😂. Thank you for posting this recipe and your husband for knowing that we all needed this kind of banana bread in the world. Sooo good!!! Thank you!! 😊
@@ChristineCushing I have been cooking lots during quarentine, including your recipes. My family and my girlfriend are loving it! I literally just served up a bolognaise sauce and brownies i made today to my family.
There are SO many banana bread recipes around, maybe thousands, but this one looks very good. Nutmeg really does add a distinct and delicious flavor to recipes like this.....definitely looks like I’ll be trying this recipe. Yummy!
What's interesting is I was making a banana bread based on the video that played before this one. I don't have a whisk and I have wrist issues so I didn't want to use a fork for the bananas.. and I grabbed my potato masher. Now I'm really excited to see how my banana bread turns out. Interesting recipe. I'm not a fan of all of those spices but other than that the recipe I just followed was very similar. I also don't have butter on hand so I used oil. I shall see if it turns out good. I topped with semi sweet morsels, pecan halves and walnut halves.
Hi Christine, ever since I discovered you on PBS I have been searching for you. I’m especially happy to see you use the apple butter, bought a bottle in the US at Cracker Barrel and have no idea what to do with. Can’t wait to try this recipe

I made this banana bread with no sugar. It was amazing. My first banana bread actually. Thanks for sharing.
Wow that is so great , especially since it’s your first banana bread. Thanks for sharing
Tried Tony's Easy Banana cake recipe and it turn out very yummy. The thought of using Apple butter sounds interesting mix. I cooked some apple to make it more like apple Jam texture as replacement for Apple Butter. Still turn out good. Thank you so much for this recipe.
My pleasure
Just baked this and it’s by far best recipe
Must try

I just now saw your comment so apologies for the late response. I’m so glad you love it !
Wow another great recipe! Thank you Christine, for your info I use the potato masher too but only to mash the bananas, I then put them in muffin tins. I have been looking for another banana recipe for a few years now, this is it for me.
Thank you and so glad you love it
Hi, just want to said thank you for the recipe, I have bake this twice now and I love it.
Oh wait, no one is coming during the quarantine so let’s recalculate 😆
Boo yah. Another spectacular recipe. Love ya, thanks Christine.
Donna hahaha! Exactly what happened here. Thank you and stay safe .
MyFavouriteFoods ChristineCushing And Tony’s banana bread turned out spectacular! Thanks again 😊
Enjoy
@@ChristineCushing Your welcome, thanks!
I made the recipe substituted butter with olive oil and apple butter with maple syrup and cinnamon and fresh nutmeg with apple pie spice into four small loaves. I ate a slice almost immediately. It is indeed the best banana bread that I have ever made!
Wonderful!
Yes so glad you loved it !
Sounds great! Hope you are well down in Melbourne.
@@ChristineCushing Thank you 💝
@@ChristineCushing Thank you for your kind words 💝. We’ve reached 90% double vaccination and restrictions are lifted 🙂
At last! A baker who starts with wet ingredients! Thank you Christine!
You are most welcome. !
Thanks to dad's innovation Your husband longing your sharing with love I Only trillion thanks
Our pleasure!
It's so crazy but at the same time important to keep passing along these cherished recipes. I hope you try it. Thank you
Yum. I happen to have over ripened Bananas in my freezer so can hardly wait to try your Dad's recipe. I just found you today and started saving your videos. One question, why would anyone give this a thumbs down. I love you in Christ. Hugs from smokey California.
I hope you try it soon and that the fires are calming down in California. We are thinking of you. wow ! Be safe
I love watching your channel. I'm new with you. I think your dad, Tony, has it right. Using the potato masher. Thanks for sharing the recipe and some hints that make this bread special. God bless!
Love it!! I can't eat nuts so this is great. You can see the banana.
I have to say I admire the way you scrape all the ingredients from your vessel ....I get so angry with these "cooking fundies" that leave half the mixes in their bowls......waste drives me insane 😜
Yeah I always think the same thing
Sometimes half the batter is left in the bowl
Me To... I Never Understood The Waste 😏
I was thinking the very same thing, that is a pet peav of mine. To begin with, they spoon it in by spoonfuls, then leave half the food in the pot or bowl!
I am not alone.I wince a little if I see someone cutting off too much of the ends of an eggplant and throw away the too generous waste.

I don't know why I keep finding myself back in the kitchen for another jumbo-sized "sliver". 😂😂. Thank you for posting this recipe and your husband for knowing that we all needed this kind of banana bread in the world. Sooo good!!! Thank you!! 😊

That is so great ! WE love it in my house so I'm glad you have made and love it too.
There are SO many banana bread recipes around, maybe thousands, but this one looks very good. Nutmeg really does add a distinct and delicious flavor to recipes like this.....definitely looks like I’ll be trying this recipe. Yummy!
Loved your video. Wish you had given amount of ingrediants
This looks amazing. I have about 6 over ripe bananas that I was about to freeze. I’m going to try this today. Thank you Christine!
I and my mum tried out this recipe and it worked! Thank you so much😊😁
What's interesting is I was making a banana bread based on the video that played before this one.
It seems meant to be. I hope you try it this way. Thanks
Awesome result....... The nutmeg mskes the difference
It looks sooooo delicious I'm going to try making it this weekend thanks for sharing 😘😘😋😋
