    These videos starting with the ak collection video have been incredible. I am in the process of liquidating my collection. One of the rifles on the block is a dsa sa58. 21" type 2. This video taught me a lot. I had called dsa when I purchased the rifle and it's a 2001. 40xxx serial. I added dsa scope mount cover for optic. Over the years it has by far been my favorite "battle rifle". I can shoot it very accurately with what I would call garbage ammo. My m1a couldn't touch it. You had to run gold medal match to make it happy. I learned a lot. I'll miss it but everything will disappear the 16th. Best for my immediate family. Been so fun learning. Thanks.

    Would love to see DSA release a FNC or 5.56 FAL. I converted my 16” carbine version to Para with an ACR stock and while quite pricey to do so wouldnt replace it with another

      I could see them doing an Imbel style 5.56 FAL, but an FNC? That would require totally different tooling and manufacturing techniques. So i doubt they could sink that kind of money into the project. sadly.

    The gravity thing with 30 round L4 Bren mags is a myth, I'm an ex RGJ rifleman that used them on the L1A1 SLR and had zero issues with them - it was a popular myth at the time, even as told by unit armourers, I reckon it was started because the head-sheds knew how adept we were at 'improving' our equipment, usually by acquiring it by all sorts of means, legal or not :/ so were probably concerned that everyone would be nicking them, as once you have been in a rifle company for a little while your gear looks nothing like it did while you were in training, a lot of it you bought yourself because back in the 80's the issued gear was mostly junk

    Wow, great minds think alike! I’m contemplating grabbing one too- they finally have open stock after a couple of years of DSA FALs being as rare as hens teeth. It’s between this and a PTR- the H&k design is more accurate, good mags are cheaper, and the things are always in stock. DSA FALs are cooler though- they just are.

    For me, this was the most exciting FAL rifle to come out in some time. It's light, balanced, has a Chrome Lined 4150 BBL, and shoots pretty great. I am pretty happy with it. It also comes with that sling which is a decent sling IMHO. Mine is 51K SN range and actually has a carry handle cut, although it is fitted with a blanking piece.
    Anyway, I put a DSA Picatinny Rail and Vortex SPITFIRE 5X on mine (Lightest Optic I could find), works good as a red dot as well if you leave the lens cover on. The more I shoot it the more I like it and it's working it's way into my SHTF rifle of choice.
    I say buy it.

    I have a grays lake stg58 kit gun. And when DSA came out with the cold warrior series a few years back, with the cast type 3 receiver, I picked up the jungle warrior para. The combination of 16” barrel, light aluminum lower, and little bit heavier stock make a rifle that’s so much better balanced, handling, and modern feeling than the traditional military FAL. It’s even better gassed and shoots softer than the bigger heavier trad kit gun. Runs like a top. I love it. Prefer it significantly more than my grays lake stg58

    • @misha5670
      @misha5670 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, FN primarily intended the FAL for export/foreign customers. Afterall, domestically the Belgian market is quite small. FN was happy to alter/customize the design (within reason) for individual customers too. Another fun fact, FN offered free production rights and licensing to build the FAL to any Allied nation from WWII since they helped liberate Belgium. So the USA wouldn't have had to pay for the T48.

    Being the owner of one of those British L1A1 kits built on the "MADE IN CANADA" marked Imbel(?)receivers...I keep thinking I ought to sell it and hunt for a rifle that will cycle the blue plastic DAG 308 ammo...if I could find one. Seems the PTR 91's have issues and for a new guy getting into the AR-10 world..good lord that's a cluster-bleep...not sure what to do, really. Last I knew, Arizona response systems HATES the DSA made guns, and that made me a bit leery about buying a DSA FAL..maybe I am stupid.

    • @markp4401
      @markp4401 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah AR-10s are quite the rabbit hole. If I could only recommend one it would be the LMT MWS. It’s expensive but not the most expensive. It’s seen military use which is a plus. Finally it has the unique feature of swappable barrels. You can convert a .308 into a 6.5 Creedmoor in the field.

    • @railfanningpoints2.045
      @railfanningpoints2.045 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markp4401 6.5 Creedmoor has been known to blow primers in semi-autos. It seems 6.5 Creedmoor is safest in PSR bolt actions. While the LMT MWS MARS H series is a nice Cadillac, absolutely nobody does caliber swaps in the field. That's not a real-world thing. For recreational shooters, military, LE, whoever nobody swaps barrels, re-zeros optics, and carries two types of rifle ammo in the field. The only practical advantage of quick-change barrels is the ease of replacing a worn barrel.

    • @railfanningpoints2.045
      @railfanningpoints2.045 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hardly a cluster fu*k assembling a decent AR10 if you don't want top-of-the-line proven variants such as LMT, KAC, or DD. I would recommend going with AR10 / SR25 pattern over DPMS pattern, but there's a bit more aftermarket support for the DPMS pattern. You could go with Aero Precision or JP Enterprise base to build from. I would recommend installing a quality adjustable gas system to an AR10 build such as the Riflespeed Adjustable Gas System. As for the PTR 91s, the most reliable version is their traditional G3 GI rifle. Now I'm wondering how reliable their new HK93 / HK33 clone will be.

That said, Swiss special forces sometimes deploy with a kit in a pelican case containing both a STGW07 (SG553LB) receiver and STGW07K (SG553SB) receiver group too. Of course that's simply swapping barrel lengths (also often going from unsuppressed to suppressed); not changing calibers or mag types.
