I saw a sporterized fn49 chambered in 8mm with a scope mounted on it at a local gun store. Only one I’ve ever seen in person. I wish I could have grabbed it.
Trust me, you are better off not having got it. Sporterized guns are seldom a good investment and often poor shooters. If you want one, just look for an original online. Heck, i found a really nice Luxy .30-06 FN49 at my local Cabelas of all places....for $1,200....and i talked them down to $1k OTD in the end lol. I wish i still had it but someone wanted it more than me, so i let it go later on. The 8mms are the most common ones in the USA today.
I'm happy to have a chrome lined cold hammer forged from FN on my AR-15 I assembled. It is a terrific barrel, I have the 16" government profile. I want to find a .300 blk barrel of similar quality for a current project of mine. I want to get a 8.5" ish barrel for a "backpack gun". I currently have a 5.56 10.5" AR with a LAW folder, and it is a bit big for most packs.
Hey Misha back in the 90’s I bought a Hesse full FAL build. I couldn’t get the rifle to run well but back then I didn’t know anything about adjustable gas system. Have you had any experience with the Hesse rifles? Thoughts?
Hi Misha, quick question, I purchased an Egyptian FN 49, which has an S&K type 1 scope mount installed...as a consequence it no longer has the as issued receiver cover. Do you know a source for one? If not, do you happen to know if a Belgian (.30-06) one will interchange with it?
I have an FN49 that I'm Trying to figure the caliber on, it's got the Egg with the Crown on top and ELG inside it with the N and 5 point star over it, the number on it is 6357, Could this be 8mm Mauser? Id Like to Sent you Pics of it. @Mishaco
Thanks for the hard work Mishaco. I have to watch the deep dives at least twice to absorb more than half the information. Maybe I have a learning disability. Lol.
Why the FN FAL unlike the AR-10 and HK G3 was never downscaled to 5.56mm cartridge? The FN developed the CAL and FNC which are completely different designs compared to the FAL.
The CAL was more similar to the FAL than the FNC but it had problems and customers didn’t like it. Brazil made an FAL in 5.56mm but it had reliability issues
@@littleboss6970 The CAL was still quite different compared to the FAL in design of the receiver, the bolt and the charging handle. What is the model name of the Brazilian 5.56mm FAL you mentioned?
Why would/should designs be downsized? Nothing about the FAL design lends itself to the 5.56x45 cartridge. Few have done it because it isn't benefitial.

Honestly? no i don't know. I've never tried mix & matching FN49 parts, sorry
@@misha5670 no worries, thanks for the response. I may roll the dice and try it. I know those 8mm Egyptian ones are non-existent these days.

sorry but pictures wouldn't do me any good; but google has the answer I'm sure?
Thanks, I got the Info I needed, it's an AL stamp Belgian model chambered in .30-06. @@misha5670
can we get a video of your full collection? i mean man just your AK vids alone are massive
sorry no, that wouldn't be wise or practical either one.

Nah, 4 out of 5 doctors recommend me to cure sleeplessness lol
I have a question. Will a SLR fit FN FAL furniture?
Nope, esp not the pistol grip & buttstock.
@@misha5670 thats good to know. Thank you
