    ~Nice to see your Medaka again! You are the reason I have my own colonies just coming up to spawning condition again this year. As another UK member mentioned, it's hard to source good quality Medaka in the UK unless you pay big money!

    You can cement the rocks together that you will not be using in aquascapes for making a little pond with a waterfall. I can not handle high heat any more and you are out there working in the sun, take care.

      Hi Dean, yes I still have my pond and it’s now in the ground. I do plan on putting some large boulders around with some plants. I don’t like the small ones though, as they look unnatural and are hard to keep stable

    You could store your hardscape on the outsides of the walking path and under plants. So it looks like its part of your garden except you can still see it and pick up a piece whenever you need it for aquascapes.

    Very nice video! You have a lot of knowledge!!! You are going in the right direction. I am also in Japan, in the Kanagawa area and recently build my second pond after a smaller one. Here is an idea... Clean the area. Get all the rocks together in one place. Get rid of the weeds shrubs and roots, then take a good look at your area and see how you want to proceed. I believe this will help you.

    Thanks for the update. Your temp range there is similar to ours here in Arkansas, USA. My outdoor tub ponds have been getting really warm. I wanted to try rice fish in them this summer but budget didn’t allow. Put out swords and white clouds I already had. Floating plants and lilies help cool.

    I believe the term is "karesansui". A rock garden. Or even design a "dry" river through the garden using the hard scape materials. With all those plants, and pots, start making WabiKusa displays with stone

  • @ChrisJohnsonCJs-Kitchen

    The garden is already so beautiful, I can almost see what it must have looked like back in the day.
    Why not use that rick from the garden to create some raised tiers to put the ricefish ponds on, rather than building racks so they look like part of the garden? It's already looking great, you're doing a great job. I'm looking forward to seeing it when it's done.
    Also, thanj you for the update on the ricefish. Its getting hot here too & I have fry I hatched from purchased eggs that are probably ready to move to the mini ponds I set up. Ive been worrying about the water temps.

    Love the video and love your ideas. I'm trying to start off my own rice fish in the UK but its been difficult getting hold of the rice fish and the ones I have have had a few health issues - Im hoping to get them in better shape soon so that they can go in my indoor 'water gardens'. Despite the initial problems with the rice fish, I'm already in love with them - such curious and lively little fish. Although they still appear quite young they are already breeding so wish me luck hatching the eggs!! Thanks again for your videos and starting off my rice fish 'obsession.
    Re. The hardscaping issue. How about making a zen style garden using your favourite rocks? You could easily swap the rocks out when needed for the fish tanks. I know it would be more of a zen style mountain range garden but it might work.

    • @RyoWatanabee
      @RyoWatanabee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I wish you good luck with your rice fish! One advice I can give you is give them some direct natural sunlight. I’ve seen and have been told by breeders that rice fish that stay indoors without natural sunlight tend to be weaker and get sick more often compared to ones that are kept outside.

    • @janwilson9485
      @janwilson9485 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice. I will try them in sunlight by an open window as much as I can - we aren't supposed to keep them outdoors in the UK incase they get into our waterways - seems crazy!!! Hopefully this will change soon. Looking forward to your next videos.

  • @KentAJDK
    @KentAJDK ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the stones, to keep them clean and not to get a green mossy growth or a dusty layer, you should be keeping them in one layer in the sun. Maybe build some strong shelf/stand, like for your fishtanks, and have the stone there away from the ground. Also I would guess less spinders, because the stones will get to hot in the sun. 😊

    • @RyoWatanabee
      @RyoWatanabee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @migueldelacruz6556
    @migueldelacruz6556 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would probably be making a mini natural looking above ground pond with those garden rocks so they aren't just sitting idle around the yard. What are your thoughts, guys?

    • @migueldelacruz6556
      @migueldelacruz6556 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just shared the idea because that's what i did with the tiny rock we have in our yard. Except that mine do not look natural because i struggled at retaining the water because i did not used water waterproofing in the cement. I ended up using a water proofing paint and I'm quite okay with it as long as it serves its purpose of growing out some of the fish i have bred.

    • @RyoWatanabee
      @RyoWatanabee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cool! I’ve had a similar idea but I’m really picky about looks and small rocks are hard to work with since it’s almost impossible to make it look natural and very hard to keep stable unless you use concrete to secure them.

      Hello there. Wow, the temperatures over there can get scorching hot.
      Rice fish are one of the hardiest fish species.
      That being said, temperatures exceeding 40 C, for prolonged periods of time, will surely be inimical to the fish.
      Ideally placing them in shaded areas would be recommended, but with those types of temps, I'm not so sure. That might be hard on the fish.
      Hope you'll be able to keep rice fish though. Good luck. 😃
