First time dad who can fix anything but can't confidently install a car seat for his baby. This video should be linked to Graco's user manual! Their manual works but, this video is the best hand-holding I've needed. Thank you.
I read the directions 5X from Graco, and I still didn't understand it. A few minutes reviewing your video and now I understand how to install it safely. Thank you so much!!
Thank you! I just bought this for my 9 month old, as he is too tall for his infant car seat (already around 30-31”), and when reading the manual it can be confusing! So glad I looked up a video demonstrating. Now I feel more confident about installing it in my Kia. My one comment was for the cup holders- the manual says it’s easier to pull the cover away before clicking them into place, and I found this to be true!
Yes! My daughter is 4 months old and is already 27 inches long and I just purchased this one before our trip to Florida for vacation and I’ve read this manual too many times. I said just forget it I’ll find it on TH-cam!
Currently unboxing our Extend2Fit for my baby who turns 1 on Sunday. Our almost 4 year old is in the same seat and it’s worked well for us and we’re familiar with it. My toddler is petite, almost 30 pounds now, and my 1 year old is catching up to her quickly! We’re keeping them both rear-facing as long as possible. It stresses me out when I see all her little classmates forward-facing, I want to turn them all around and keep them safe!
Thank you so much for this video! Another first time dad who didn't even know the anchors existed in my car, so reading the manual was no help! Super helpful to actually see process and have it explained
Based on your car seat recommendation guide we bought this for our one year old when we moved him out of the infant seat - and we wish we had bought it for our first child 4 years ago!
Thank you so much for this! We got this for my Dad's car and we had no clue when we were reading the manual last night at the airport! Thank you so much ❤
I’ve never related more to an instruction video. This video was super helpful and I got my car seat installed in no time. Love the little moments of struggling to get the straps tight enough 😂.
We love our Graco e2f! We have a almost 4 year old, almost 40lbs (now using seat belt installation) and for our almost 2 year old, about 25lbs. They both got this once they grew out of their infant seats. All of our friends think it's 'crazy' our 4 year old is still rear-facing. Hoping to make it to kinder before forward facing! Thank you for all you do in educating us!!
Thank you for all the info!! Our 3 1/2 year old maxed out his current seat and we are looking for extended rear facing and this video helped us make our decision!!
Thank you so so much for your video! I was able to install the baby seat without any problem! After getting frustrated with the instruction booklet... haha!
Perfect timing on this video! We have the Extend to Fit for our tall, 2 year old & we’re discussing whether to get our daughter the same seat! Looks like it will work well for her since we plan to do extended rear facing! Thanks for the info!
We love this car seat! My son is 2.5 and 42 pounds. He's also tall, so we are keeping an eye on guidelines of when we will have to switch him forward-facing -- we are trying to keep him rear-facing for as long as possible!
Coming from an uppababy, I can't believe there are seats with installation as involved as this. This video is super helpful nonetheless but man, these other manufacturers need to copy uppababy's system.
Thank you so much for this video! I would love to know if you have any tips on when to remove the inserts? How to determine the best fit there. Thank you!
We remove the head insert right away because it usually just pushes the child's head forward. The bottom insert can be removed whenever you feel like it.
Do you have a video on how to properly put your baby in this? Like how do we adjust the straps to ensure they are secure and comfortable? Do you need the infant insert for a 9 month baby? I'm so lost.
The insert is optional. You adjust the straps just like you did in the infant seat. They should be coming from at or below the shoulders and be tightened until they pass the pinch test.
We just got this seat installed. The harness straps are over our 14 month old’s upper thighs and not her pelvis/hips at all. Is that ok? Very different from how her Chicco Keyfit35 harness fit.
I just installed this Graco car seat, thanks to your instructional video! The one question I have is about the warning at the base of the car seat. It says that the rear-facing should only be used by infants under 22 lbs and younger than a year old. My son is 14 months old and weighs about 21 lbs. Should I be installing this as forward-facing?
No, definitely not. The wording means that you are not allowed to forward-face a child who is under 22 pounds or below one year of age. This is the federally mandated wording, and it is a headache because it is so confusing. The standards are being updated, and this wording will be changed, thankfully!
We remove the head insert right away because it usually just pushes the child's head forward. The bottom insert can be removed whenever you feel like it.
It definitely will not fit a 4-pound baby. If the baby is 7.5-8+ pounds, it will often work ok. But smaller babies will have the harness coming from above the shoulders, which is not allowed.
I’m confused as to when to recline the seat and how to know it’s at a good recline now that baby has neck control, does it matter between 2-4? Thank you!
I know the ball on the level indicator has to be in the light blue for 0-3 months but for 3 months plus does it have to be in the dark blue or can it be in either blue?
Seats are all the same in this regard. There is a little button near where the child's feet would be. You press it and pull the harness straps at the same time. This is an installation video, not a harnessing one.
We have trouble getting my daughters harness tight and always have up pull from behind to get it right. I’m nervous about using it when she’s forward facing .. any advice?!
We just purchased this car seat...my little one is 15 months and 23 pounds. He will be rear facing. But i'm confused with the 1" below the headrest. He doesn't have a 1" space, so can I lift the headrest to adjust it to his height?
Question: if extending the foot panel, do we extend first and then do the installation? Or install first and once it’s tight, extend the foot panel? Thank you for this video- so informative!
Thank you so much for all your great videos. We have a debating going on. My partner put the seat in so the back of the seat is straight up. I thought it should be at a slight recline, otherwise it is like our child is almost holding up their head. And if there can be a slight incline do I create it using the seats incline or use a pool noodle or towel. The seat is leather and bucket seat and is deep with a pitch. And want to pull out the extended a little bit. Hope this makes sense. Thank you again
If the child can sit unassisted, you can use any of the reclines as long as the recline ball is within the right zone. You should not need a pool noodle or towel as this seat has 4 recline options already.
No. The recline ball is only for rear-facing. You need to have it on recline 4, make sure the bottom of the car seat is completely flat on the vehicle seat, and make sure that the car seat does not hang over the vehicle seat more than allowed (which is indicated by the orange sticker near the front of the seat).
Thank you for this video. Question, when you are ready to extend the leg panel, do you need to undo the latches? Or just pull the leg thing out after it is already installed? And when the leg thing is extended,is the bottom of the car seat base still supposed to touch the back of the seat of the car, or only the leg rest thing touches the back of the seat. So confused. Thank you!
Love this seat. Kept my daughter in it rear facing until 4years old. Question: I am having difficulty reclining the seat to position 5, 5&6. I pull the lever but it doesn't move into those positions. Can you help? Thanks again for all your videos, tips & tricks.
Thanks for the lovely video. I wanted to check if graco extend2fit can be installed in the rear middle seat. Really appreciate if you can give your 2cents if it's a good idea.
This video is so helpful! Thank you! Am I right in understanding this seat is for up to 50lbs rear facing or 49 inches tall, whichever comes first? And if a child reaches 50lbs before they reach 49 inches, then it can be turned around and faced forward up to 65lbs? I was just a little confused on whether 49 inches was the rear facing limit, forward facing, or both!
Fantastic video and learned a lot. I had one question for rear-facing with children over 3 months but under 40 lbs (eg my 25 lbs two year old). In the rear facing position can we adjust the extender past position 1 to give the child extra leg room? The manual was a little unclear, stating: “For children over 40 lb (18 kg), use position 2, 3 or 4.” I assume we can adjust the extender as we like for under 40lb but the manual wasn’t clear.
You can use the extender whenever you want, even when the child is above 40#. You can even not use it if desired with a child over 40#. Unless you are in Canada and have the Platinum version, Graco does not require you to use it with any specific weights. It's just a guideline.
You didn’t move the LATCH strap to the opposite belt path when doing the seat belt install. The manual says to move the LATCH strap before doing seat belt install.
By latch strap, are you talking about the lower anchor strap? I couldn’t find anything in the manual about moving it. It’s driving me crazy not knowing if it should be removed or not when using the seat belt 😭
Hi there! Is there a fit requirement for the crotch belt to be in either slot? I just installed my car seat with the crotch belt and the closest spot to the baby, but not sure if I need to uninstall the car seat and try it in the larger position. If so, I assume I have to adjust the recline to get to the crotch belt, and I think the only way to adjust the recline is to disconnect the car seat from the latch belt? Just wanted to confirm with you- is there a rule about the crotch belt position? And do I have to disconnect the car seat to adjust the recline to have access to re-threatening the crotch belt? THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!!! ❤
Where does the headrest and earpads need to be positioned in reference to the toddlers head? Also where should the chest strap sit? I have it at armpit level but it seams to high. Thanks.
We remove the head insert as it usually just pushes the child's head forward. The harness has to be at or below the shoulders AND the child has to have at least 1" between their head and the top of the car seat; so just move the headrest to a position where both of these criteria are met. Chest clip should be on the sternum, so for an older child, this has a little more range than just at the armpit level.
We just bought the graco growwithme for our 1 year old and she is rear facing for sure but my husband and I are having a dispute about whether or not to use the top tether or not? I’ve always thought to not use to for rear facing?
For the seat you have, you only use the top tether forward-facing. When using the seat in rear-facing mode, the top tether should be in its storage location
When installing this seat rear facing using the vehicle’s seat belt, do you leave the latch belt in the belt path? And then does the seat belt sit on top of the latch belt? Or can you move the latch belt to the forward facing position first, prior to putting the vehicle’s seat belt through the rear facing path?
Hey! Thank you for this video it's very helpful. I had some people in a carseat group say that with seatbelt install for rear facing, the tether should be rerouted to the front facing path. I can't really decipher it in the manual because it doesn't specify, I was just wondering if it was safe through the rf belt path?
Thank you for this! I'm overwhelmed by the different Graco models - is any comparable to the 4Ever 4-in-1 DLX Convertible car seat? Does that model have the overhang issue when forward facing?
They have like 50 options it feels like, so it's understandable that you would feel overwhelmed. We don't like the current 4Ever models, especially the booster modes. They are short-lived and very bulky. It's typically less expensive to buy a convertible and then a separate booster.
@@safeintheseat Thank you so much for replying! We purchased the 4Ever DLX last year not knowing it could become an issue when we switch to forward facing in a few years. I've made peace w/ the need to purchase a booster once she becomes of age :')
I have a 2 year old who is currently 27 pounds, she’s decently and it seems like her legs don’t get into a comfortable position in the rear facing position. I can’t figure this car seat out. I don’t understand how to make her more comfortable other than reclining it all the way back. But I want it to be in the #4 position so she’s sitting up. I drive a 2022 Kia forte. I wonder if it’s the cars fault or if I’m doing something wrong.
I feel like I’m missing something on the seat belt install rear facing. Every time I try to tight the seat belt the shoulder strap pulls the seat up and in towards the middle?
We have found that this one doesn't give a good fit for all newborns, so it's not one that we recommend. Our convertible car seat buying kit is on sale for a few more days. It lets you know which convertible seats that we have found fit newborns well and then helps you figure out what features in a car seat are important to you so you can choose the seat that works best for your situation. shop.safeintheseat.com/products/convertible-car-seat-buying-kit?_gl=1*1t4r2h2*_gcl_au*MTgyNTE3Nzg5LjE2ODAxMDI1MzA.&_ga=2.172747051.942324928.1686830907-1475617773.1656513980
We bought the 3 in 1 but did seatbelt install. Do you have to take out the lower anchor strap before installing with the seatbelt? I couldn’t find that info in the manual!
They are attached to the seat and cannot be removed. But you can move them from one belt path to the other if you want. So if you are installing the seat rear-facing with the seat belt, you can move the lower anchors to the forward-facing belt path and store them in the lower anchor storage location on the seat. You can find that location in the beginning of your manual where it labels all the parts of the seat.
We love our Graco Extend 2 Fit for our tall 3 year old! Question about rear-facing seatbelt installation: the shoulder belt slides under the cup holder when we pull it tight. Is that safe? We can’t seem to get it to come out to the side without having too much movement at the belt path (we have the anti rebound bar version)
Yes! And in many convertible seats the keg straps sit a bit more on the things. Perfectly fine so long as all harness adjustments are correct! Our courses go over this in detail and I’ll make a note to add a video here too!
If you are in another country, it will be a little more difficult to install. But you can make it work. If the vehicle has lower anchors, you can use those for installation until the child is 45 pounds. If it does not, then you will need a locking clip to do a seat belt installation. If you contact Graco, they may be able to send you one.
Okay, so this is a question I literally can’t find the answer to anywhere. So I have an old car, and have to use the seatbelt to install this car seat. Not sure if I can explain this right, but here we go. So the actual car sear belt kinda twists when I pull it tight.. If that makes sense. Like it twists naturally because of the angle, is that safe? If I’m not explaining that right, maybe I can get a picture to you?
Does this seat along with the Graco 3 in 1 slim fit really have an expiration date of 10 years? I thought all car seats had a default of a 6 year expiration date?
Car seats do not have a default 6 year expiration date. You have to check the manual and/or sticker of each seat in order to find out the expiration. The range is 6-12 years depending on the seat
Please check that you have the lower anchors in the correct belt path first, we see often that people don't have the lower anchors routed properly. Next, make sure you are using the correct lower anchor positions in the vehicle (generally just behind the driver or just behind the passenger, and not in the middle seat). Lastly, make sure you have loosened the lower anchors all the way. You won't have an issue, if all of these things are correct.

Thanks for watching the video, and I'm glad it helped you figure out how to install your seat!

Can you explain how you know which recline number you are at? It does not seem obvious visually, nor does it have 6 distinct clicks. Thanks!
There is a sticker on the side of the seat and an arrow points to which recline you are using. It's very easy to see
Thank you for this!
Thanks for watching!

This is the federally mandated wording, and it is a headache because it is so confusing. The standards are being updated, and this wording will be changed, thankfully!
Curious about when it’s safe to remove the inner pieces… the manual felt a little unclear to me
We remove the head insert right away because it usually just pushes the child's head forward. The bottom insert can be removed whenever you feel like it.
The description says 4 lb min for rear facing. However, I’ve read on other sites not best for newborns. Thoughts on this?
It definitely will not fit a 4-pound baby. If the baby is 7.5-8+ pounds, it will often work ok. But smaller babies will have the harness coming from above the shoulders, which is not allowed.
HELPFUL VIDEO 10/10!!!!!!
Glad you think so!
Great video thank you

I’m confused as to when to recline the seat and how to know it’s at a good recline now that baby has neck control, does it matter between 2-4? Thank you!
Once the baby can sit unassisted, you can choose any of the rear-facing reclines as long as the recline ball is in the blue area.
@@safeintheseatdoes it matter if it’s in the light blue or dark blue?
Very informative videos. Thank u so much. How do u adjust the seat belts that way they are not too loose or too tight?
I tighten the seat belt as shown in the video. It is impossible to get it too tight with human force alone.
Aren’t we required to secure it from the top in rear facing? With the hook at the bottom of the passenger seat?
Neither required, nor allowed!
I know the ball on the level indicator has to be in the light blue for 0-3 months but for 3 months plus does it have to be in the dark blue or can it be in either blue?
It can be in either one
How do you loosen the straps on the harness? I would think that would be an obvious point you would want to cover in a 17 min video
Seats are all the same in this regard. There is a little button near where the child's feet would be. You press it and pull the harness straps at the same time. This is an installation video, not a harnessing one.
I was looking for this as well. The release button is not on the outside like with my infant carseat. It's under the fabric, to the top of the strap.
We have trouble getting my daughters harness tight and always have up pull from behind to get it right. I’m nervous about using it when she’s forward facing .. any advice?!
For whatever reason, it's usually not a problem once they turn forward-facing
We just purchased this car seat...my little one is 15 months and 23 pounds. He will be rear facing. But i'm confused with the 1" below the headrest. He doesn't have a 1" space, so can I lift the headrest to adjust it to his height?
You lift the headrest up a few clicks, making sure to choose an option where the harness is coming from below the shoulders.
Thank you!
Question: if extending the foot panel, do we extend first and then do the installation? Or install first and once it’s tight, extend the foot panel? Thank you for this video- so informative!
You need to extend the panel first before installing the seat
So rear facing can you use both seat belt and anchors for extra security?
No, you can use the seat belt OR you can use the lower anchors. Graco does not allow both and that does not add extra security.
Thank you so much for all your great videos. We have a debating going on. My partner put the seat in so the back of the seat is straight up. Can you use the towel method with front facing install? My kids are below 40 lbs, and I'm trying to get the incline ball in the blue.
No. The recline ball is only for rear-facing. You need to have it on recline 4, make sure the bottom of the car seat is completely flat on the vehicle seat, and make sure that the car seat does not hang over the vehicle seat more than allowed (which is indicated by the orange sticker near the front of the seat).

Thanks again for all your videos, tips & tricks.
Check for any crumbs and if it's already clean, then contact Graco
Is there any downfall to doing both the lower anchors and a seatbelt?
Yes, it is not allowed by the manufacturer. It could possibly affect how the car seat performs in a crash.
Thanks for the lovely video. I wanted to check if graco extend2fit can be installed in the rear middle seat. Really appreciate if you can give your 2cents if it's a good idea.
As long as you can get a tight installation with the seat belt in that space, it is fine.

That's correct. Most kids would reach 50 pounds before 49." But the limit is 49" for both modes.
Is there a video showing how to put the cover back on? There are loops we are not able to figure out what they hook on to! Would appreciate any help!
We don't have one. That's why I recommend taking a video when removing the cover! Check the manual to see where everything goes.
Seat still seems to move too much side to side on the roller towel.
If it moves more than 1" where the seat belt is going through, then you need to tighten it more.
Fantastic video and learned a lot.
I had one question for rear-facing with children over 3 months but under 40 lbs (eg my 25 lbs two year old). In the rear facing position can we adjust the extender past position 1 to give the child extra leg room? The manual was a little unclear, stating:
“For children over 40 lb (18 kg), use position 2, 3 or 4.”
I assume we can adjust the extender as we like for under 40lb but the manual wasn’t clear.
Triogrow also has this rule 😬
Graco has told us that this is not required
@@safeintheseat why would the manual say it though if it’s not required?
By latch strap, are you talking about the lower anchor strap? I couldn’t find anything in the manual about moving it. It’s driving me crazy not knowing if it should be removed or not when using the seat belt 😭
@@bungee_gum44 the triogrow manual just says to store the latch in the opposite belt path, when using the seatbelt
For rear-facing, the crotch buckle used should be the one that is closest to, but not under baby. You have to uninstall the seat to move it.
Can you recline different positions without having to undo the seat belt while in rear facing ? Tia 😊
No, the only convertible seats that have that option available would be some of the swivel seats.
Does the seat have to be straight up the normal car seat
The vehicle seat should be in an upright position
Thanks so much
We just bought the graco growwithme for our 1 year old and she is rear facing for sure but my husband and I are having a dispute about whether or not to use the top tether or not? I’ve always thought to not use to for rear facing?
For the seat you have, you only use the top tether forward-facing. When using the seat in rear-facing mode, the top tether should be in its storage location
Can we move this car seat and attach to the stroller ?
No, this seat stays in the car
When installing this seat rear facing using the vehicle’s seat belt, do you leave the latch belt in the belt path? And then does the seat belt sit on top of the latch belt? Or can you move the latch belt to the forward facing position first, prior to putting the vehicle’s seat belt through the rear facing path?
Either way is fine for this seat. Just make sure the lower anchors are stored away and not left dangling.
Don't forget that the foot panel has to be on certain settings based on weight
It does not. That's optional unless you are in Canada and have the Platinum version
Hey! Thank you for this video it's very helpful. I had some people in a carseat group say that with seatbelt install for rear facing, the tether should be rerouted to the front facing path. I can't really decipher it in the manual because it doesn't specify, I was just wondering if it was safe through the rf belt path?
Graco doesn't care for this seat
You can show her different ways to put her legs (criss cross, straight up with her feet near the vehicle headrest, legs over the side, etc).
Does the bottom have to be flushed with the back of the seat? If so, how are we supposed to use the foot rest? (For rear facing 2 year old toddler)
It doesn't, it just has to make contact somewhere and must not move more than 1" from side to side
I feel like I’m missing something on the seat belt install rear facing. Every time I try to tight the seat belt the shoulder strap pulls the seat up and in towards the middle?
If you are tightening the seat belt from inside of the seat instead of outside, you won't have this problem
Is this good for newborn ? I’m trying to decide what to get 🙏
We have found that this one doesn't give a good fit for all newborns, so it's not one that we recommend. Our convertible car seat buying kit is on sale for a few more days. It lets you know which convertible seats that we have found fit newborns well and then helps you figure out what features in a car seat are important to you so you can choose the seat that works best for your situation. shop.safeintheseat.com/products/convertible-car-seat-buying-kit?_gl=1*1t4r2h2*_gcl_au*MTgyNTE3Nzg5LjE2ODAxMDI1MzA.&_ga=2.172747051.942324928.1686830907-1475617773.1656513980
Can you adjust the recline without uninstalling and reinstalling?
No, only a few swivel seats have that feature.
Thanks for the video. Is it possible to use both ways same time. Latch + seatbelt for more secure fixation?
That's not allowed with this seat. You must choose one or the other.
Would you consider making a video like this about the Nuna Rava?
Yep! Plan to do it on all seats if you all are liking these videos!
@@safeintheseat Thank you so much!! :)
Yes, that's fine
I feel like the straps by my kiddos thighs are in a weird position, can do a demo on safety checks buckling your kid in this car seat?
Yes! And in many convertible seats the keg straps sit a bit more on the things. Perfectly fine so long as all harness adjustments are correct! Our courses go over this in detail and I’ll make a note to add a video here too!
Thank you! Also the crotch buckle, the one option is he is sitting on and the other is way in front of him? Which is correct?
Can you adjust the recline on this seat without disconnecting or adjusting the tether straps?
No, you must uninstall it to change the recline
Can I install this car seat in a Suzuki Baleno? Thanks in advance!
You can email a picture to the car seat manufacturer.
I'm having the same issue. Did you ever figure it out?
It is either or for the seat belt or anchors??
You must only use one of those
Does this seat along with the Graco 3 in 1 slim fit really have an expiration date of 10 years? I thought all car seats had a default of a 6 year expiration date?
Car seats do not have a default 6 year expiration date. You have to check the manual and/or sticker of each seat in order to find out the expiration. The range is 6-12 years depending on the seat
@@safeintheseat Thank you so much for sharing this information!
How does the Extend2Fit 2-in-1 compare to the 3-in-1 seat?
We prefer the 3-in-1. We have reviews for both of them: safeintheseat.com/?s=extend2fit
What if the lower anchor straps aren’t long enough to fit the vehicle?
Please check that you have the lower anchors in the correct belt path first, we see often that people don't have the lower anchors routed properly. Next, make sure you are using the correct lower anchor positions in the vehicle (generally just behind the driver or just behind the passenger, and not in the middle seat). Lastly, make sure you have loosened the lower anchors all the way. You won't have an issue, if all of these things are correct.
@@safeintheseat I did have it in the wrong belt path. I watched the video again and figured it out. Thank you!
Can you put this seat in the middle seat that has a cup holder pull down?
Yes
