One of my favourite parts of splatoon is the way they handle the musician groups. The fact that I can recognise Pearls specific squid noises is an amazing show of quality on their part.
I love how each VA for the idols either look similar to their idols or act like how they would. It's either perfect casting or they had the singers in mind first and based the idols off of them either way its so dope. Also love seeing Rina and Alice again 🩷🩵 Edit: Also Big Man being an AI construct is insane
Right?! Even watching the VAs muted, you'd be able to tell the characters from their vibes alone they're all very well cast. I feel like Big Man must have a voice actor of some sort but they're just not shown here? Going by the pitch and inflections of some of the spoken recordings, I'm thinking it could be the guy who voices the player inklings

I will never get tired of watching the Splatoon VAs sing their funky gibberish tunes. You can tell they really love what they're doing and are having tons of fun. It's fascinating and wholesome at the same time ❤
Whoa, the singer at 0:15 is in a band called Kurofune, which plays a sort of traditional Japanese music combined with jazz and it's amazing. Didn't expect to see her here! Look up "Kurofune jazz", "kurofune journey", or "Kurofune breakthrough" to find them
Imagine being these vocalists having to learn and memorize a fictional language for a song in a video game then execute singing it extraordinarily. They're splendidly incredible together!! 💖
I mean it's not really harder than memorizing a song in a language you don't speak, and most singers do that at least occasionally. I only speak English but have memorized songs in English, German, Latin, Hebrew, Portuguese, and Japanese for choir performances, and on my own have memorized the lyrics to the Skyrim opening and the chorus of Calamari Inkantation. oh yeah and one song that's the lord's prayer in Swahili because it was just that darn catchy.

Every song has lyrics that... well, if you translate the Japanese you just get a pronunciation guide, but they're def. singing the same thing every time. You can find the lyrics for all the Squid Sister and OtH songs online; not sure if we've got official Deep Cut ones yet, we may have to wait until the CD.
these are some of my favorite videos to see, it’s super interesting to see these very familiar sounds shown in a new light. I hope they release more than literally one video per Splatoon game
The little bits of character acting in their body language are so delightful. I'm sure it helps make the tone of their singing more authentic, but it also just warms the heart to watch

in case anyone is wondering, the reason big man is not shown is because his vocals have to be recorded separately! he is not able to come to the studio nintendo uses to record music with the other artists (because of the air (he is a real manta ray))

So happy to see another one of these behind the scenes recordings, it's always so nice to see how much fun they're having and puts even more personality to the songs that were already overflowing with it
I always wonder if they model the characters after the VAs or if they choose the VAs based on the characters. I bet they do a little bit of both, cause they're always such perfect matches! Like, they choose vocalists who have the right set of skills for the part the character plays in the music, and you can always see the actress' personality leak through to the final character in the game. Either way, they've really nailed the casting!
Well Callie’s voice actress has the “Pop” in her name (Ketty Pop/Yuki Kudara) Marie’s voice actress’s name is “Mari” Pearl’s voice actress’s name is ironically “Rina” Marina’s voice actress’s name ironically has “Pearl” in it Frye’s voice actress almost has a similar hair colour and style, she is also very energetic and upbeat Shiver’s voice actress also has a similar hairstyle to her I think it’s a sneaky coincidence
The character’s are designed before the casting happens, but I’m sure they flex around the candidates to somehow make a connection between them and their characters
I love how happy and joyful Frye’s voice actor, she looked so excited to do the singing! I also love shiver, and I was really desperate to see her voice actor!
