    Me and my family just got a baby western painted or a red bellied cooter and we were wondering if our tank and decor was good for it! We realized we had too little entertainment and hiding places! They (we can’t tell the gender yet since they are very much not fully grown) are now very very happy!

    The turf in that one tank is most likely made of pvc and will slowly leech chemicals into the tank. As long as the owner keeps up with water changes it should get nowhere near toxic levels though.

    I'm making a turtle tank for my soon to be musk turtle! I'm getting him as a baby and he will be super tiny, so I'm starting out with a 20 gallon tank. I'm splurging a lot for his enviornment, some turtle safe mosses, and really anything to give him the best life possible. My longterm boyfriend and I plan to move in together within the next year or two and we plan to get a 40 gallon tank then and upgrade everything with live plants and a few tetra fish. He loves turtles, and I've grown to love turtles! Seeing all these tanks gives me such inspiration for the years to come! :))

    It’s great to see that you’re back! 😊 I have a question for you. In your opinion, do you think it’s easier to care for a musk turtle or an axolotl?

    • @bazzi5926
      @bazzi5926 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sad no one replied to you. In one of her videos on her axolotl she talks about the downsides of owning an axolotl. I remember she said that an axolotl is rather passive, meaning it typically only stays in one place a lot of the time and that you cannot touch/handle it like you would with a turtle. It also requires live food, so in just that regard a music turtle is probably easier? I hope you get feedback from someone soon with more experience. Take care and good luck! 😊

    I have two map turtles I got about a year ago as hatchlings. Ive had experience with turtles as I used to have painted turtles and I wanted to get Mississippi map turtles because I think they are so beautiful . I keep them in a 40 gallon with a canister and I actually managed to house them with a group of cichlids and they get along well!! (This was an experiment because I heard both this could and sometimes doesn’t work out) fast forward almost a year later theyre a little larger than my palm and are happy turtles! Each paycheck I'm saving some money so I can get a 125 or something bigger. I know I have one female and 2 males. Names is Reachel O'Neil, Casey Jones and Shredder

  • @lucaslange4398
    @lucaslange4398 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    thanks for the awesome videos! we recently joined the party with our TWO new baby red eared sliders. they both appear to be males and we already caught the bigger one bullying and snapping at the smaller one... so we installed a glass divider in the middle of the tank while making sure they both get their own basking areas. we might end up getting a 2nd tank, but wondering your thoughts on keeping them together and using a glass divider so they are able to see each other, or if it would be better if the divider were not see through glass?

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glass can kind of act like a one way mirror underwater...so it may not make that big of a difference. frankly, I'd opt for separate tanks because if you divided the tank completely with glass you'd need two separate filtration systems anyways

    • @lucaslange4398
      @lucaslange4398 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheTurtleGirl I agree with the filtration issue if it were completely divided, but I should clarify that the divider does leave almost 1/2 inch gaps on both sides and water does flow through. We also occasionally let them swap sides (not sure if that creates a significant environment change and stress for them or not?). It’s a lot of fun having the two of them (named Sonic & Tails). I’m just trying to figure out if they experience stress from being able to see the other male turtle on the other side. 🤷‍♂️

    First, thanks for all your videos! I learn a lot from them.
    My yellow-belly turtle has been growing a lot the last few weeks and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to transfer her to a kiddie pool as pond-like habitat.
    Oh! Another thing! I bought the same basking box you are using but my turtle simply don't climb the ramp. Any ideas? Should I just be more patient?

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A kiddie pool is great, if you can outfit it with a filter/basking spot/decor/ etc. With the basking area, sometimes they can just be a little shy. Put them up their once, but after that...just wait for them to go up on their own...they'll figure it out!

    On my tank where the black plastic rim the water level is 2 inches below her makeshift basking dock is on. The water line and she never try,s to climb out she is calm 24,7 unless you sneak up on her even then she will not try to jump out she leaps in the water and swims frantic then calms down and hangs off the side of her dock she's adorable 😂😂

    First I am so glad I found you!! I am new at turtles. I took in 2 yellow bellied sliders little over a year old that were not cared for the best. I upgraded to 140 gallon tank! I also found out that one of them is male & one is female 😮. I definitely cannot separate them they have been together since they were itty bitty. They bask together and everything it's so cute. Anyway my question is I read that especially when having a female it is important to provide an area of dry land in case she needs to lay eggs. Is this true? I am not sure exactly how to go about this. I need suggestions or help please point me in the right direction. Thank you for all your helpful information

    I'm looking after my son's two turtles and they have got very big and at first they only had a ornamental bridge and a light nothing else , so I built a basking platform on stilts that sat just off centre of the tank so the Turtles could swim up either side of the tank , I but in pebbles and rocks and tree bark with skulls of crocodile and dinosaur skulls , I'm now brought a 120x50x50 cm tank and going to change the substrate to bright sand and rocks and a few pebbles tree bark and a new bigger basking platform the two Turtles are Chinese gold stripe , the base of the new tank stand I'm going to put on wheels so I can move the whole thing near to my balcony come summer time so they get natural Sun light .

They haven't eaten since I bought them 5 days ago and I'm starting to get worried. They are in a 3-foot tank, have plenty of spaces to swim and bask, there's a UVB lamp and a typical fish tank lighting light, and I've got a ton of plants. :( sorry to hear that. unfortunately I don't really have any suggestions since i've never had to deal with it personally, but there are a handful of videos on youtube walking you through how to treat it. If its bad, you may need exotic vet attention though.

    • @TheTurtleGirl
      @TheTurtleGirl  ปีที่แล้ว

      no. tortoises are land animals and shrimp are aquatic haha

    • @avonavians2860
      @avonavians2860 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean turtles, then yes! Turtles can live with shrimp. As long as you keep the water clean and don't mind replacing them if the turtle eats them all.
      I'm pretty sure that turtles could coexist with ghost shrimp easily.
      We tried to feed our red-eared slider a dead ghost shrimp once. She did NOT see it!
      Then we dropped it, and we could not find it. Our turtle tried to eat our fingers because she could not see the shrimp. We finally had to hold the shrimp above the water for our turtle to see and eat it.
      It's not easy to eat a ghost.
