Too much confusion, if too many people without knowledge talk about things. 175 knots IAS (=indicated airspeed) is the maximum speed, due to structural loads on a Piper Malibu. At high altitudes 175 knots IAS is around 260 -270 knots TAS (=true airspeed). With some nice taliwinds 300 knots + GS (=groundspeed) is possible. Check jetprop.com for further details and discuss in the user board!
@berndl 300 knots very possible. Just look at the displayed ground speed. It is indicating 299-300 knots at 27000 ft. You can sometimes find some nice tailwinds up there! I'm sure you were referring to the plane's no-wind speed capability.
IS that fuel flow meter accurate? tbm850 burns 60+ gallons at 28000. You were lower and slower but its worth the trade off. What kind of speed do you do up high?
