that's the charm of Gen 8 fossils, they are unique, I dont like Gen 4 and Gen 6 fossils cuz they are just dinosaurs as pokemons, that'd why I like Gen1, Gen3 and Gen8 starters they are creative
im sure at some point we will get either the body of zolt, or we could end up with some other raptor being turned into a fossil mon like Utahraptor, Velociraptor, Pyroraptor or Deinonychus
Relicanth is based on the coelacanth, a fish that we thought extinct for millions of years before discovering that they're actually pretty common in the South Pacific - they're just disgusting, so they get thrown back.
Some below have pointed out that Mammoswine, Tangrowth, and Yanmega could've been included in the discussion as "living fossils". I'd also argue that Unown and Natu/Xatu being exclusive to the Ruins of Alph may qualify them for discussion as living fossils at least. They lack the trademark Rock Type that typical fossils share, but more recent entries such as Galar's fossils and the paradoxes prove that those are trends, not hard and fast "rules".
Yes the Gen 8 fossils are a reference to the fossil wars where a lot of their body parts got mismatched because people were desperate to say they were the first to discover x species
May be unpopular but i love the galar fossil pokemon just the idea behind it and just how nonsensical and hilarious looking they are and there also easily the most creative of fossil pokemon design wise.
Its been said in the comments that Alola doesn't have fossils because Hawaii wasn't around before the dinosaurs went excinct but I just wanna add that the only "fossils" found in Hawaii were plants and even that's just barely.
I’d say the Sinnoh fossils being level 20 upon revival is the right level. That’s about the same as the wild Pokemon at that point in the game. The issue is that they’re really bad for the upcoming gyms (Maylene = Fighting-types and Crasher Wake = Water-types). Fortunately, they’re really good into Fantina in Platinum since Cranidos gets Dark-type moves and Shieldon resists Ghost-type moves prior to Gen 6.
you could also backtrack to revive them before the fight with Gardenia if you really wanted to, however shieldon realistically would be the only useful one since cranidos is just bad against her....then again gen 4's fossils suck anyway since they are so hyper focused into 1 route...and don't do particularly well in it: rampardos suffers from being too slow and frail, while bastiodon suffers from a terrible typing, poor HP, no recovery and being unable to move the battle much personally i think cranidos has a worse time since it does poorly against Gardenia, Maylene, Crasher Wake and Byron, as the ONLY gym leader it's effective against is Candice
Maybe some ancient Pokémon Parks in an underground way with an aboveground (plus maybe an underwater) section could fit for them, with a Paradox forms area?
would love if they made a game that is mostly unexplored and have more ancient feel to it like mostly fossil pokemon but in their real version instead of everyone being rock type
As a boy who went through my government mandated paleontology phase, the past is an untapped gold mine of Pokémon inspirations, especially the Cambrian and Precambrian eras.
Genesect itself, the way it is now is not really a Fossil Pokémon. But the Pokémon it was before all the enhancements was most definitely one. Of course no one knows who it even is but many cling to hope that Kabutops was the one chosen, yes. And the four treasures, formal name The Treasures of Ruin aren't fossils since they came into being less than a thousand years ago thanks to the greed of a certain King of Paldea.
@@GoinGreninja genesect's origins is still a fossil. So it still deserves mentioning. The hisuimons and past paradoxmons aren't fossils. But are still worth bringing in the group. @@murasakibebeby3127 Because they're recent history, even if it's a thousand year back. Most of what you mentioned either went extinct at some point or had their population lowered. So it doesn't make sense for them to be treated like fossils, like ancient artifacts.

The reason why it's fitting for Brock to have them as the Pewter Gym leader is because they are in the museum in said town. I'd honestly have either have given him Kubuto and omonyte, then taken away Onix and buffed it, or given Onix a gen 1 evolution.
Hey. Nice video. It got me thinking, with your last statement of "staples to the series" what other things GF is kinda "required" to add to every game? You could do a video of it. For instance. The 3 starters, the early birds and bugs, the fossils, the legendary, and eevolution, a new charizard form haha.
The Starters, the Early Bird, Bug and Mammal, the Psuedo-Legend and Legendary Pokémon, Sub, True or both are the only things that I'd say are, in a way, set in stone. But the others like fossils don't appear every gen. Gen 2, 7 and 9 doesn't've them for example. And a new Eeveelution hasn't happened in ten years. What luck is there for one to get now? And a Charizard Form, while it happens a lot, isn't guaranteed. It didn't gain a signature Z-Move for example. Neither does it have a special Tera Form...Yet.
I honest always loved the fossils they always felt super cool to me esspically in gen 3 where I just found them in the desert! I felt super accomplished as a kid I truly hope fossils stick around this video makes me templed to do a fossil run of the games

fossil pokemon are still cool to me, and personally I think if we ever got a fossil based on Dilophosaurus it would be rock/poison just as a reference to the ones from Jurassic Park
Arcanine is one of my favorite of all time amazingly gorgeous with a legendary aura, this variant the same; Hisuian Pokemon generally have a good place in my heart peculiar idea. Paradox don't totally convince me, some are still among my favorite, but i find them pretty forced. I dislike Galar Fossils as they're lore is just disturbing they even look in pain, it's horrible they are revived like that. I don't like Mega Aerodactyl visually.
Ngl in a way I wonder why we even have the gen 8 fossils, like, if the fossils aren't properly conected, shoud the machine not be able to revive it? Well just a thought
Kills me that we still don't have a fossil analogue tovmy favorite dinosaur, Ankylosaurus. Gimmie a rock/grass type that learns Wood Hammer with a big ol' boulder tail!
You made me realize something. Brock could have been an excellent final gym boss. If Brock switched places with Giovanni, Brock could have used the fossil Pokémon in his gym battle.
Gen 1 definitely handled fossils quite well. But having to wait until the cinnabar lab to revive them deffo was too late. You should have been able to revive them at the pewter museum (or put the science lab there) so you'd be really rewarded for backtracking. Either put it behind cut so it's put off until later or really, really reward stubborn backtracking trainers by giving them a level 25 pokémon before the second gym if they seriously took the fossil and backtracked all the way to pewter just to revive it. Now what about the amber? Have that be obtained in the pokémon mansion and revived into a Level... dunno 40, Aerodactyl at the museum. Basically, swap the lab and museum or something.
That’s true, it is also confirmed in game that the hisuian forms did not come before the form we already know. Zorua line and all the starters already existed before the hisuian forms did.
@@TheRedSmarty Yeah, like the voltorb line and maybe a few others but that same concept applies to regional forms in Galar and Alola like Galarian Zigzagoon and Alolan Exegutor where they were first from the form we already knew.
Tryrunt would have been a lot better if it's shiny was it's default blue makes it look more pokemony and would create a fanon lore of it being the ancestor to the totodiles.
You failed to mention gen 4 with the….”fossil evolutions” Tangrowth, Yanmega and MAMMOSWINE in a way Benjamin button their evolutions because they evolve from job prehistoric things into obviously prehistoric things through knowing the move ancient power upon evolution
im sure he didn't since they are evolutions of existing pokemon, but are based on extinct things like ancient monkeys and cavemen, the meganura and a mammoth unlike relicanth being an actual living fossil with it being a coelacanth, the most famous living fossil since that fish was thought to be extinct for millions of years
Designwise I like the living fossils. Relicanth is kind of underrated and the past Paradox Pokémon look cool, except for Sandy Shocks. That's just weird in my opinion. I appreciate the way Gen 8 take with its fossils Designwise but they could've been a bit less weird
Well it's not actually past and future, just the idea of them. If there was actual time travel of that scale going on Dialga would have showed up to stomp it out, but the whole thing got left running for months/years. It's more akin to teleporting and then mutating Pokemon found in the region with the two differing energy types (one exacerbating their natural physical attributes, the other forcibly adding electric and steel) that are related to Tera (and slightly to Mega Evolving as we see with the Salamence variant). Still, is weird that they didn't show up at all, especially in Scarlet.
@@DracoSafarius I can understand them not being here since one game is meant to be entirely focused on the future They make alot of sense in one game, but alot less in the counterpart
Cue the revelation that the Galarian fossils are actually just Galarian forms of Archeops (Flying/Electric), Relicanth (Ice/Water), Lapras (Ice/Dragon) and Dragapult (pure Dragon; its 'dex entries explicitly state that they're extinct and appear as ghosts.) Now that I think of it, why can't the other Fossilmons appear as ghosts? Is Gengar actually just Caracosta? Not only that, if its possible to revive fossilised creatures that have been dead for billions of years, why can't we revive a Marowak that was run over by a bunch of gangsters? Also, if this revivication technology is able to preserve memories (as shown in the Tirtouga episode of the anime), why have no potential dictators used it to extend their dominion for all eternity? Clearly the only logical solution is that these fossil revivers run on necromancy. To that I must also wonder why the Pokemon world isn't on the cusp of a zombie apocalypse. Or maybe the gates of PokeHell are torn open one day when some kid wants to get a Kabuto and Lumiose City gets obliterated while Ash Ketchum gets fused with Pikachu and is given the choice of becoming Arceus' tool in spreading lifeless order across the galaxy, teaming up with Giratina to destroy all law and create a chaotic mess, or saying "screw it" and rebooting the Pokemon Multiverse in his image. Indeed, there are many questions that the Pokemon games have yet to answer.
They've Legendary Pokémon now, thanks to transferring from HOME. They'll also have more thanks to DLC. It's all planned. I don't know how you don't know this.
In Gen 1, the scientist takes one from you, if I remember correctly. In Gen 3, the cave where they're caves in. In Gen 4 and beyond, they're just version exclusive. Something the player cannot normally get unless they've the correct version, that's all.
I'd like to see more ancestor pokemon, I'm thinking something like a more primal Charmander with adaptations to the old world. Fossil Pkmn are cool but dinosaurs are kind of over done. Let's see the creatures which evolved to give us the icons we all love.
@@GoinGreninja charmander is just an example. I'm thinking more like a game set in the past (similar to Legends Arceus) but with more focus on humans literally just arriving and finding pokemon which have thus far never been observed by humans and therefore which exhibit different traits as many pokemon have, or so it seems, developed into niches suited around human habitation. Meowth and Grimer for example often get mentioned in pokedex entries for their apparent dependence on human settlement. Now wouldn't it be cool to have a Sabre-toothed Persian or a Wooly Ryhorn. I'd love to see pokemon as humans first encountered them and how humans developed their new societies with these creatures in mind. Why not expand on Legends Arceus?
I think it's stupid that they gave us all these prehistoric pokemon but not the original versions of the fossil Pokemon yet. Like why? It's almost like they want to retcon fossil Pokemon as non existent
I'd think of it less as a retcon and more as a way to distance themselves from the past. When Pokémon was first created, Jurassic Park was all the rage. So it makes sense that they'd do their own version of it. And they did so, for a long while. But maybe somewhere along the way, the devs realized that it's not worth it. So they now design new Pokémon in its stead.
I don't think the past paradoxes were ever in fear of normal creatures like Kabutops given their absurd stats and typings. And also, it's unknown if they're even from this timeline to begin with, meaning it's possible that they'd no Kabutops to get predated upon to begin with.
I honestly miss the old fossils. People hate on them for all being rock type even though it makes sense. Here’s to hoping gen 10 brings back fossil pokemon
Fossils would be in the prehistoric age like with real life. Hisuian forms would be there 160ish years ago from the present of the Pokémon world since PLA looks to be taking place in late feudal Japan. And Past Paradoxes are likely in a separate timeline altogether since they don't seem to fit with the current understanding of the prehistoric age of the Pokémon world, since it's stated that Scream Tail was around a billion years ago even though the only things that were around back then in our world and presumably in the Pokémon world as well are bacteria and other multicellular organisms that'ren't proper animals or such.
@@GoinGreninja I remember reading a theory somewhere that pointed out that paradox mons (both future and past) are designed moreso of how people imagine the far past and future rather than how it actually was.
@@darkiusmc979 That theory may be more than just mere ramblings. But for now, I can't say much about it since we'ven't seen much of the DLC to begin with. And yes, it's a good theory all around.
*Hot Take:* As someone who actually likes playing the games and grinding, not just finishing them, the lower the level the better. It feels so impersonal and boring when you catch/get given something at a high level. ...also, the "new" broken/overpowered Exp Share is the worst thing ever to come to the games. It makes everything overleveled with no effort needed. Sure it's to make things easier for their target demographic of kids, but at least give people the option to turn the thing off.
not everyone likes to sit inside their room 26 hours a day to grind pokemon, there's a reason why Infinite Rare Candy rule exists in nuzlockes, so u don't have to grind

@@LNRspeaks Apparently, ancient Aerodactyls were actually rock hard. And they even had rocks jutting out, if the Pokédex entry for Mega Aerodactyl is to be believed.

Hisuian forms and evolutions are not past or ancient forms, they are regular regional forms that just existed in a past climate of Sinnoh. It is confirmed in game and on the Legends Arceus website that some of the hisuian Pokémon came after the original forms. It is never confirmed if they are actually extinct or not since they are retcons into the series so we may have to wait and see. In the SV dlc there are a lot of hints to Hisui in the trailers for Kitakami, so it’s possible that they moved from past Sinnoh and now live in Kitakami.
Wasn't Zorua's whole thing that it's dead because of the cold?
In that case can't really be exinct if it's a ghost lol.
@@yurei4414 Yeah, they were driven out but the villages and they were forced to live in the harsh cold and other harsh conditions and they became ghost so yeah they technically couldn’t go extinct like you stated.
Ash's Dracovish in the anime was such a powerhouse, and a dirp lol.
Yet it has Water Gun in its moveset.
Agreed.
@@thatman666 And I have mad respect for Ash doing that. Just like Pokemon, you can pick whatever moves you want because you like them. I once taught a Registeel Thunderbolt and a Palkia Ice Beam.
@@zexalbrony4799 You can do it, yes. But it doesn't mean it'll be good at it. I think the only reason Ash kept Water Gun on Dracovish was specifically to deal with opponents that're far away. In games though, stuff like that doesn't matter, so giving them moves that works with their stats is the most important thing to do.
@@GoinGreninja yeah, it's for range coverage, it matters in the anime because unlike in the games, Pokemon aren't standing right in front of each other waiting for the next attack to hit them. So even if it's a physical attacker, in the anime Dracovish is actually running a balanced Moveset.
I love Aurorus so much, such a cool looking Pokémon. Sadly that typing hinders it greatly. :(
yeah cause ice/rock is a really bad typing giving it a ton of weaknesses and not many resistances, and if a fighter or something made of metal even breathes on it, it just explodes
If it was a fast attacker it'd have been great which hurts me more. Ice and Rock types are just far better for offense, yet unironically sold as defensive.

Man I wish the Gen 8 Fossil could be completed properly, I’ve always wanted a Raptor fossilmon but that doomed to be left to dust because of the -zolt fossils being a thing
that's the charm of Gen 8 fossils, they are unique, I dont like Gen 4 and Gen 6 fossils cuz they are just dinosaurs as pokemons, that'd why I like Gen1, Gen3 and Gen8 starters they are creative
@@theamazingspooderman2697but gen 1 is the same…

A prehistoric safari zone would be the coolest thing ever 😮
JPR trying to sneak in that Tusk Act 4... I'd say Dragapult looks more like Echoes Act 2, although Echoes doesn't shoot anything
Yes the Gen 8 fossils are a reference to the fossil wars where a lot of their body parts got mismatched because people were desperate to say they were the first to discover x species
May be unpopular but i love the galar fossil pokemon just the idea behind it and just how nonsensical and hilarious looking they are and there also easily the most creative of fossil pokemon design wise.
same, I don't know if that's unpopular but if it is, shame on the community bcz Gen 8 fossils are unique
@@theamazingspooderman2697ah yes you’re shaming a community for not liking unfinished garbage designs

No, the galar fossils are lazy, unfunny, incomplete garbage. There should’ve been an option to fix them
Fun fact: because the Kanto games lets u do some gyms out of order u can actually get the fossil mons earlier than u think.
Its been said in the comments that Alola doesn't have fossils because Hawaii wasn't around before the dinosaurs went excinct but I just wanna add that the only "fossils" found in Hawaii were plants and even that's just barely.
In that case, there was the opportunity to introduce some grass-type fossil 'mons, but ehh, guess the developers wanted a break for it.
I’d say the Sinnoh fossils being level 20 upon revival is the right level. That’s about the same as the wild Pokemon at that point in the game. The issue is that they’re really bad for the upcoming gyms (Maylene = Fighting-types and Crasher Wake = Water-types). Fortunately, they’re really good into Fantina in Platinum since Cranidos gets Dark-type moves and Shieldon resists Ghost-type moves prior to Gen 6.
you could also backtrack to revive them before the fight with Gardenia if you really wanted to, however shieldon realistically would be the only useful one since cranidos is just bad against her....then again gen 4's fossils suck anyway since they are so hyper focused into 1 route...and don't do particularly well in it:
rampardos suffers from being too slow and frail, while bastiodon suffers from a terrible typing, poor HP, no recovery and being unable to move the battle much
personally i think cranidos has a worse time since it does poorly against Gardenia, Maylene, Crasher Wake and Byron, as the ONLY gym leader it's effective against is Candice
As a boy who went through my government mandated paleontology phase, the past is an untapped gold mine of Pokémon inspirations, especially the Cambrian and Precambrian eras.
yeah since there's so many prehistoric creatures (marine reptiles, flying reptiles, aquatic life, insects, dinosaurs etc) that have potential to work
Genesect. Also technically the 4 treasures? Maybe? I don't know.
Relicanth isn't a "fossil". It's a "living fossil". But again. Deserves mentioning. And bringing in the group. So with all that. I don't see why the 4 treasures are any different.
@@murasakibebeby3127 Because they're recent history, even if it's a thousand year back. Most of what you mentioned either went extinct at some point or had their population lowered. So it doesn't make sense for them to be treated like fossils, like ancient artifacts.
@@GoinGreninja ok. Fine. You're picky about the 4 treasures. Dunno why though. Technicalities and exceptions get made all the time. But im also picky about genesect. We wouldn't have the genesect of now. If the "genesect" of then was not first revived. I say "genesect" because we don't have anything other to call it other than maybe "???".
@@murasakibebeby3127 Fair enough. Genesect gets to be in the unknown category.
I hope they come back. I need me a stegosaurus and triceratops pokemon. And no, I do not accept the idea that Bastiodon is a triceratops
Bastiodon is based on both a Ceratopsian and Chasmosaurus according to Bulbapedia. So you don't've to accept it, since it's not even true.
Gen 1 and 3 fossils be like: Lets be available as late as we can so by the time they have a full team they just dont bother trying us.
A sabertooth tiger fossil pokemon would be cool I know it's alot closer chronologically but I think it would be a cool idea
The reason why it's fitting for Brock to have them as the Pewter Gym leader is because they are in the museum in said town.
I'd honestly have either have given him Kubuto and omonyte, then taken away Onix and buffed it, or given Onix a gen 1 evolution.
Limited information, you should just FEEL the POWER of the Helix Fossil!

Honestly impressive that it took three batches of fossil pokemon for them to make actual dinosaurs
I really like the gen 8 fossils.
Same
They’re terrible and there should’ve been an option to be able to fix them
My first nuzlocke was in Y and that early Aerodactyl was on my team the whole game
Hey.

Yeah the closest we have to an ankylosaurus Pokemon is Grotle. And that inspiration is completely lost when it evolves to Torterra! What a waste
Didn't Fire Red and Leaf Green have the VS Seeker to re-battle trainers?
LOL love the intro spin 😂
Could you hypothetically fossilize a dead modern pokemon carcase and revive it in the future?
PLS upload more than once a week
You forgot to mention Genesect
ITS NEVER MORNING WHEN I WATCH YOUR VIDEOS
The hisui forms arent ancient arcues takes place in the 1800's
That’s true, it is also confirmed in game that the hisuian forms did not come before the form we already know. Zorua line and all the starters already existed before the hisuian forms did.
@@octokraken6359 Some Hisuian Forms came after their original forms, but others appeared earlier.
@@TheRedSmarty Yeah, like the voltorb line and maybe a few others but that same concept applies to regional forms in Galar and Alola like Galarian Zigzagoon and Alolan Exegutor where they were first from the form we already knew.

since hisuian arcanine is a rock type i hope brock will find a way to get one.
Bruh what's the music in his intro?
Surprised you didn't mention, Tangrowth, Mammoswine, a d Yanmega, who are living fossils
im sure he didn't since they are evolutions of existing pokemon, but are based on extinct things like ancient monkeys and cavemen, the meganura and a mammoth
unlike relicanth being an actual living fossil with it being a coelacanth, the most famous living fossil since that fish was thought to be extinct for millions of years
Designwise I like the living fossils. Relicanth is kind of underrated and the past Paradox Pokémon look cool, except for Sandy Shocks. That's just weird in my opinion.
I appreciate the way Gen 8 take with its fossils Designwise but they could've been a bit less weird
I find it it very weird how a lot of fossil Pokemon if not all are missing from Scarlet and Violet the games focused on the future and the PAST
@@DracoSafarius I can understand them not being here since one game is meant to be entirely focused on the future
They make alot of sense in one game, but alot less in the counterpart
Game freak is stupid
Cue the revelation that the Galarian fossils are actually just Galarian forms of Archeops (Flying/Electric), Relicanth (Ice/Water), Lapras (Ice/Dragon) and Dragapult (pure Dragon; its 'dex entries explicitly state that they're extinct and appear as ghosts.)
Now that I think of it, why can't the other Fossilmons appear as ghosts?
What is the name of that opening song??
It’s mezase Pokémon master the first jp opening for the anime
It's funny how scarlet snd violet have neither fossils nor legendaries
They've Legendary Pokémon now, thanks to transferring from HOME. They'll also have more thanks to DLC. It's all planned. I don't know how you don't know this.
Dark lord dome for life
I still don't get why you had to make a choice between the fossils or at least why picking one fossil would destroy the other one.
In Gen 1, the scientist takes one from you, if I remember correctly. In Gen 3, the cave where they're caves in. In Gen 4 and beyond, they're just version exclusive. Something the player cannot normally get unless they've the correct version, that's all.
To get you to buy the other game
@@GoinGreninja In Gen 3 it caves in just because you take a fossil? Indiana Jones style? Of course it doesn't happen in Emerald for some reason
@@wallygropius4451 Yep. It's weird.
I'd like to see more ancestor pokemon, I'm thinking something like a more primal Charmander with adaptations to the old world. Fossil Pkmn are cool but dinosaurs are kind of over done. Let's see the creatures which evolved to give us the icons we all love.
So you want more Paradox Pokémon? That's all well and good. But why Charmander? The lizard gets enough attention as is.
@@andrewince8824 I see. I understand your idea better now and yes, that does sound pretty freaking cool!
@@GoinGreninja idk it's a huge missed opportunity tbh

kabutops litterly preyed on all of the past paradoxes without a doubt
I don't think the past paradoxes were ever in fear of normal creatures like Kabutops given their absurd stats and typings. And also, it's unknown if they're even from this timeline to begin with, meaning it's possible that they'd no Kabutops to get predated upon to begin with.
it's Water/Rock, even Brute Bonnet would have done massive damage to it
Paradoxes are just cheap knockoffs of fossil pokemon and what’s worse is that the former don’t even have names, they’re also extremely broken

Aerodactyle, kabutops and tyrantrum are peak fossil pokemon designs
nice
Helix Helix Helix . . .
I still want to know in what order Fossil, Hisuian and Past Paradox would have existed in the Pokémon timeline

They learn Growl now. While they do sometimes ignore logic, it's not something they do often, especially on a scale like the one you're suggesting. If they'd fossils there, then it'd've shattered many a people's immersion.
