I've seen people confused by this so i thought I mention it. When you send out the kinsect after marking a monster, it doesn't mean it gets the extract from the marked area. All the mark does is make the kinsect fly toward where the mark is when you send it out, if it hits s different part on the way it gets that parts extract instead.
+The Red Snorlax This is true, in fact, one thing not mentioned in this video and is something being done by a lot of players in MHX is that they forgo the Orange altogether and just run White + Red all the time.
+The Red Snorlax It's always recommended to get all 3 since it gives more buffs, but yea some essence is hard to get but it's pretty much up to the player if they want to 'waste' a bit of time trying to hit that 2 pixel sized spot to get that last orange buff or if they're just gonna roll with red or red-white. You have a lot of time to finish a hunt and trying to get that hard to get buff could familiarize yourself with the monster, it's attack patterns. After a while those hard to get buffs will turn into easy to get buffs. And it's always fun to see the other players trying to get the buff and constantly failing at it. :P
the Insect Glaive is pretty much my main weapon so this Video of yours really helps to understand the controls once MHX comes to the US. From your previous workshop videos i gotta say I like the Bushido style a lot, i tend to be very aggressive in my play throughs & i leave myself open for the monster to WHACK me. So being able to have that evade tumble would really seem to help me, not to worried about my Kinsict having limited stamina
You can use the X>X>A combo even without a red buff, you just do half the number of hits. Also X>X> back + A is also an infinite combo you can freely switch between X>X>A for positioning and evasion maneuvers. Back + A is such a useful move, I'm always surprised at how most IG users don't seem to use it.
Tested the demo and it feels like the main source of damage for Striker Glaive is a mix between X attacks and sending the charged Kinsect to attack. This is my favorite style of all 4 Glaive styles, because your Kinsect is no longer just an extract slave, it becomes actually 40~50% of your DPS (we're speaking about a 80 Motion Value based on the bug's power, but some endgame bugs have raw that equals that of certain final weapons.). The main "stay in place" combo is now X-X-send-X-X-call back-X... Which makes Impact and Charge Up bugs pretty insane. Notice that with bug charging now set on A button, you can initiate an X combo while maintaining A pressed, and then release A to attack with your bug charged instead of ending the X chain, resulting in you staying in place. You can also maintain A while rolling with B - you never lose your charge! The only downside is that it quickly burns through your bug's stamina.
I have not used this TH-cam account in ages... But yeah, I have screencaps to confirm this: While attacking: d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69jXxq9kvbRuvZx While rolling: d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69jXxryQCc7pahQ While firing a pheromone bullet: d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69jXxso0S8Jjlik While attacking after vaulting (was easier to show without red extract): d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69jXx0lckdpnBIX And for those that want to see my lame Miiverse thread regarding this, here's the shameless promotion: miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAADAAADV0aEauVnHg
Arekkz talks about the weapons like he's a master showing his apprentice how to use the weapon. GaijinHunter is a salesman trying to sell the weapons' various traits to the hunters.
I like both but gajinhunter has much more knowledge about gunner styles than arekkz. I watched both videos on bow gameplay and gajinhunter just explained more.
Nikolas Freiberger I'm also subscribed to both. Gaijin just doesn't stream MH much, which I understand him living in Japan and having a job in the game industry, and Arekkz is a fun watch while Gaijin is more knowledgeable in all things Monster Hunter.
Striker style also allows you to charge your kinsect while fighting. Also, I have not tested this with all styles, the last command for your kinsect before it losses stamina will be a charged attack.
Thnx Arekkz, I was actually thinking of maining IG for MHX, and I always thought that I might be using Striker style only but your video actually made me reconsider this train of thought, really excited to try out all of the styles with IG
Man I dunno how I lived through monster hunter before you and gaijin hunters tutorials. So much stuff I wouldn't notice myself just mucking around with the weapons
Ditto, I had to figure out how skills, charms, kinsect upgrading, and affinity by myself. I remember the days I ran in fear if I saw a yian kut ku, Now i can easily solo a g-rank golden rajang.
lol I got into Monster Hunter pretty late in the game, my little brother had suggested that I get it so we could hunt together and I did and now it's one of my all-time favorite game series. And wtf Rajang is freaking satan, fighting him on purpose without going full hame (which my tiny shred of pride as a hunter refuses to let me do) is akin to sawing off your ballsack with sandpaper for lolz
I remember having literally no idea how the kinsect upgrading system worked because it is so different than every other weapon upgrading system and i messed up getting the kinsect i wanted several times and i finally had to swallow my pride and admit i had no idea what i was doing and look it up
I haven't tried the Rajang in Gen, My brother and I managed to kill one Rajang in The High Rank guild but the G-Rank was fucking unstoppable. I have not tried sense then boi. In fact speaking about this has triggered my PTSD
I enjoy the IG. MH4 was the first one in the series i've played and the IG was the only weapon I could use properly and it was the only weapon I was good at using. I probably relied on it to much that I have a hard time using other weapons.
I'm really interested in Bushido for this because the kinsect also attacks with you. I imagine if you buffed the little guy's power, the bushido attack is probably pretty powerful. Is that the case you feel?
Obviously gonna use guild then aerial, the latter mainly for larger monsters and the former on my regular hunts. Also, the hitlag on I Clad + SI Slash was immense, I love the amount of power it gets across. I can see this becoming truly powerful at lvl 3.
The infinite combo is still available without red buff, its just really slow and has fewer hits. Also, you're wrong about extract hunter, it works on small monsters, they're just really hard to hit.
One of the most satisfying things in Monster Hunter Generations is when the monster is limping away, trying to run away with that sliver of health but you long range Extract Hunter and kill it with your kinsect at top speeds
I always had a harder time remembering the IG combos than any other weapon type, so I think the simplified combo of Striker style will be my guilty pleasure, lol. Plus, all three of those hunting arts sound pretty rad. Think a bug's stats (particularly attack power) effect the power of that grab-all-three-essences launch art? Maxing out attack and throwing my kinsect around like a cannonball sounds like a whole lot of fun. :)
You have to dodge "into" an attack. I've tried this since I got it yesterday. Basically: If you just dodge next to a monster as it attacks, nothing is going to happen. You HAVE to be in danger of actually getting smacked by it, then dodge the attack.
so if aerial IG loses its evade, how are you going to evade monster attacks since in mh4u you needed those invincibility frames for evading long range attacks or massive aoe attacks?
I want to ask something, did they change the time on using extracts? If so, is that why you're suggesting to go for the Triple Buff right away? I always have the kinsects that double the time of a triple buff but I usually start with a red+white combo and when I'm near the end I go for the defense extract and extend it. I ask this because it annoys me and others when an IG does nothing but fiddle around a monster trying to get the last extract instead of grabbing the essentials and attacking.
In MH4U I use the Insect Glaive with full buffs to take advantage of the ledges that and I almost always attack mid leap so when and if I get monster hunter X I will probably be using the aerial style.
Hey Arekkz I have a question, does the game look better than mh4u on a regular 3ds xl? Some environments looked better in 4u and I was wondering if that was the case for this game. Thanks.
Senor Grav The extract you get depends on the part you hit. Maybe you should try looking for more info in other tutorials or online if you have a problem with a certain thing in Monster Hunter.
Does the weapon really gain much from aerial or bushido??? its super aggressive as it is in guild style, getting buffs from the kinsect takes a couple seconds really, and you already have easy access to aerial attacks anyway... I'm trying to convince myself to not play this weapon anymore, But I know I will because its too strong.
Now, as I understand it, you raise Kinsects seperate from the Glaive itself now, is that correct? Does that mean I can raise a bug for offensive power, and one for extract gathering, and swap them in and out on the same glaive depending on what I'm looking for? I like having the Offensive Kinsect against enemies that don't leave many openings or are regular out of melee range, as it allows me to keep up a bit of pressure while I'm just trying to stay safe. A properly built Kinsect in MH4U could do some surprisingly powerful hits, allowing the gunner to function as a sort of off-gunner. Especially in this game with the full essence Hunter Art, having an essence focused Kinsect isn't quite as necessary.
so arekkz im super grateful for all these Weapon Workshop videos, but i wanted to know approximatly how long the Triple Buff lasts when gained from the 1 Hunting Art? i know it says it doesnt last quite as long, and i recall the regular Triple Buff being about 60 seconds, so about how long does the Hunting Art 1 last if you happen to have any idea?
Considering Gore isn't very tough that really isn't saying much. The thing is quick as sin and strong, but doesn't have much in the way of actual defense or health. The IG ruins enemies like that just because a successful mount lets it deal enormous amounts of damage without letting the creature respond. For something like Gore, which depends on being mobile to put up a solid fight, the IG is essentially death incarnate.
I have a question, so if I have armor that gives Expert 3 or affinity 30%, and I have the speed bug which also gives affinity 30%, do the affinity's stack?
I main GS in MH4U but if I were to play IG, since I haven't before, striker seems my style. But my main question is the hearing skill from the buffed state, is it regular or high grade? It seemed like that Gamuto roar did nothing.
+Rath flame (Rathflame) The idea being is to use the normal aerial roll to perform your air attacks when up close, while using the forward pole vault for closing distances.
+TheGraveJoker Actually it's much better now - your Kinsect upgrade is separate from your weapon upgrade, so you can do whichever one you want first. The system is also a lot more straight forward - I'll do a video on it at some point :)
+TheGraveJoker they upgrade completely separate from the Glaive itself. also the food doesn't take away from other stats anymore. the nerfed Extract Extender bug upgrade is now unlocked by staying on the default bug and getting Lv6 in all 3 stats (Power, Stamina, Speed)
I'm really happy with this change. I dropped the IG because I really hated the way you upgraded that thing. From the sound of these changes it looks like I will be picking this weapon back up as my main. :D Thanks guys.
by default the monster icon in the bottom screen of the 3ds can be selected (when you found the monster) then press the L button. This way, anytime the monsters moves away you can manually lock on to the monster again
I've seen people confused by this so i thought I mention it.
When you send out the kinsect after marking a monster, it doesn't mean it gets the extract from the marked area. All the mark does is make the kinsect fly toward where the mark is when you send it out, if it hits s different part on the way it gets that parts extract instead.
instaBlaster
I love the new particle effects they've added.
Agreed. They look fantastic even on the regular 3DS.
+Samuel Owen Dito. Not a fan of the GS hit effects though. They're a bit too big.
Too bad they came at the cost of half the framerate. I would've preferred keeping 60fps.
Magmafrost13 true
Just a critique but on some monsters some essences are hard to get and is not reccamended to get all 3
Priorities
1. Attack
2. Speed
3. Def
+The Red Snorlax This is true, in fact, one thing not mentioned in this video and is something being done by a lot of players in MHX is that they forgo the Orange altogether and just run White + Red all the time.
+Arekkz Gaming that would probably because they have white/red extender rather than the balanced bug, its one of the speed bugs
I'd always get red, white and when given the opportunity get orange but let my bug hold it till the last second of my r+w combo so I get extended time.
+LiMiT Normally, people would try to collect the red one beacause the IG seems slow without red essence.
the Insect Glaive is pretty much my main weapon so this Video of yours really helps to understand the controls once MHX comes to the US.
From your previous workshop videos i gotta say I like the Bushido style a lot, i tend to be very aggressive in my play throughs & i leave myself open for the monster to WHACK me. The insect glaive is my go-to weapon from now on it's the best weapon I've used in the demo
with this armor it really reminds me of lu bu from dynasty warriors haha
Deadeye Garuga set I’m guessing
The particle effects in MHX are insane. THEY'RE EVERYWHERE.
After the demo I got to say Aerial IG is gonna be my main. I had so much fun with it, i'm now super hyped for the 15th.
You can use the X>X>A combo even without a red buff, you just do half the number of hits. Also X>X> back + A is also an infinite combo you can freely switch between X>X>A for positioning and evasion maneuvers.

insect glaive is my personal weapon and my unlimited combo is A>A>X>X>A>A>X>X and keep on doing that.
Hey Arekkz, I tested out Extract Hunter against an Aptonoth and it gave me triple buff
I believe the extract gathering hunter art works on small monsters as well. Got all three with it from hitting an Ioprey that wouldn't let me carve
Striker style also allows you to charge your kinsect while fighting. Also, I have not tested this with all styles, the last command for your kinsect before it losses stamina will be a charged attack.

Fantastic tutorial Arekkz! Suspense is over! Can see why this one took so long too, like holy moly... So much detail! Splendid work, as always =>
I enjoy the IG. MH4 was the first one in the series i've played and the IG was the only weapon I could use properly and it was the only weapon I was good at using. I probably relied on it to much that I have a hard time using other weapons.
just preordered the limited edition monster hunter generation 3ds. getting hyped up for the insect glaive!
GNO WAY! Is that glaive made from Dinovaldo? It looks like it is. YES! Hella cool. I am so excited for mhx.
Thank you! I've always wondered how to use the insect glaive.
I'm really interested in Bushido for this because the kinsect also attacks with you. I imagine if you buffed the little guy's power, the bushido attack is probably pretty powerful. Is that the case you feel?

+Corporal Porpoise yes plz
+Martin Young yes plz
1EpicCarlDude Hey...I can delete his comment...*_evil laughter_*
Corporal Porpoise dooo itttt lol
YEEESSS I use light bowgun
I always had a harder time remembering the IG combos than any other weapon type, so I think the simplified combo of Striker style will be my guilty pleasure, lol. Just picked up the demo, wondering if you can shed some light on how the bushido/adept evade works
You have to dodge "into" an attack. I've tried this since I got it yesterday. Basically: If you just dodge next to a monster as it attacks, nothing is going to happen. You HAVE to be in danger of actually getting smacked by it, then dodge the attack.
GOD I wish there was a pierce up kinsect! That would make striker style relevant.
Oh my god... I main ig and now I want X soooooo bad!
the kinsect essence gatherer hunter art DOES work with any monster. even if you'd hit a vespoid with it you'd get triple buff.
Hmm... bit OP, in a way. You can get triple buff even before your first interaction with large monsters (during that particular mission).
AREKKZ!!!! I LOVE THESE!! KEEP DOING THEM!!! (All caps ftw)
so if aerial IG loses its evade, how are you going to evade monster attacks since in mh4u you needed those invincibility frames for evading long range attacks or massive aoe attacks?
Might have to get creative with the pole vault.
+Alex Tsang You git gud.
I want to ask something, did they change the time on using extracts? If so, is that why you're suggesting to go for the Triple Buff right away?

I ask this because it annoys me and others when an IG does nothing but fiddle around a monster trying to get the last extract instead of grabbing the essentials and attacking.
They nerfed the extract extend kinsect, but it is still the best in the game. I think they shaved thirty seconds off the triple up.
In MH4U I use the Insect Glaive with full buffs to take advantage of the ledges that and I almost always attack mid leap so when and if I get monster hunter X I will probably be using the aerial style.
will the gore/shagaru magala be in this???
Yeah they're both still in. There's actually a Hunting Art that will force-infect you with the Frenzy Virus, for the Frenzy skills.
+XTheBlackSoulX OK thanks
:D so pumped!!! can you change your hunter styles on the fly???
nice vid. it should help alot if there is a text information about the vid either on the vid itself or in the description. would be a big help
What glaive is that? It looks really cool!
Hey Arekkz I have a question, does the game look better than mh4u on a regular 3ds xl? Some environments looked better in 4u and I was wondering if that was the case for this game. Thanks.
Hey, Arekkz, for the hunter art - Extract Hunter, do work on the small monster, as long as you able to connect them ^^ Good Video by the way
Problably it can but you'll just going to use it on boss monsters.
I don't think it does i'm pretty sure someone said it doesn't.
I've heard that too.
My problem is the insect is always orange and only makes me fill one spot not 3 ...help
Senor Grav The extract you get depends on the part you hit. Maybe you should try looking for more info in other tutorials or online if you have a problem with a certain thing in Monster Hunter.
Awesome video. I hop this gets a US release
I really want to see bushido style with switch axe
hey Arekkz can you the great sword next
Course, Charge Blade and Insect Glaive are the first 2 weapons on the workshop ;p
Does the weapon really gain much from aerial or bushido??? its super aggressive as it is in guild style, getting buffs from the kinsect takes a couple seconds really, and you already have easy access to aerial attacks anyway... I'm trying to convince myself to not play this weapon anymore, But I know I will because its too strong.
cheers, I will probably try everything, but Bushido seems to be where its at.
Super guide! Thanks.
charge blade or great sword next please!!
Does monster hunter generations still have the "ultimate insect glaive" like in mh4u? or is it more diverse now?
Ik this is an old vid now but I never understood why valor an alchemy are never covered?
What's the difference between different levels of extract hunter?
I really need to get X.
Why does yellow have a hidden thing were it slows stamina depletion well it feels like it
Great series, keep it up plz, and dual blades! and white gale armor showcase plz ( thumbs up)
Ima try making guild or striker ig
could you tell what weapon and armour you got it from that your using
when is GS?
I lost my 3ds so watching this is making me miss it
Does the red buff affect Bushido's dodge moves at all?
when I first saw this I thought striker is horrible. Now when I look back, The X combo is the same combo I do in 4u
what is your armor you´re wearing in this video and is it suited to a insect glaive?
Are you going to do a charge blade tutorial?
+Diego Gc I'm going to do tutorials for all 14 weapons :)
+Arekkz Gaming in that case, any chance youll do charge blade next ? :)
+IWindsOfMidgets hopefully he will :
Does anyone have a list of the new Glaives they added in X/Generations?
Arekkz,is it just me or u didn't mention about R+B in arial style?
+congga lala I did mention it - you mean the fact that R+B vaults you forwards a considerable distance?
Now, as I understand it, you raise Kinsects seperate from the Glaive itself now, is that correct? Does that mean I can raise a bug for offensive power, and one for extract gathering, and swap them in and out on the same glaive depending on what I'm looking for?

Especially in this game with the full essence Hunter Art, having an essence focused Kinsect isn't quite as necessary.
+Sines314 no you can still only have one Kinsect per glaive, it just means that the upgrade process is separate.
so arekkz im super grateful for all these Weapon Workshop videos, but i wanted to know approximatly how long the Triple Buff lasts when gained from the 1 Hunting Art? i know it says it doesnt last quite as long, and i recall the regular Triple Buff being about 60 seconds, so about how long does the Hunting Art 1 last if you happen to have any idea?
I believe the hunting art lasts half a minute
Ahmad Hannini
sounds about right from what i experienced, i know the tier 2 and 3 versions last progressively longer
can u make it longsword next arrekz ?
Can't wait for this game ASIG all the way
I found this weapon a little too OP. I killed toothless (gore magala) within 5-10 minutes of the mission
+Dragoon 321 Agreed. Gote Magala and Shagaru are jokes when I'm IG. Rajang and Dreadking Rathalos are tough.
i killed it's shiny brother in 3 minutes with a full party with great sword >.> it became a bitch.
Differences between this and mhgu?
aerial insect glaive still seems redundant to me, but I digress
Do you think mhx will come to the west?
Hey Arekkz when do you reckon you'll do gunner weapons, I'm dying to see the bow it's going to be my 2nd main ( my first being sns striker)
+TE Max Omg that's my plan too xD
I have a question, so if I have armor that gives Expert 3 or affinity 30%, and I have the speed bug which also gives affinity 30%, do the affinity's stack?
it's probably to late now, but yes.
;) it helps pple like me who decides to buy a 3ds after like....2 years?
Jose Wen same bro
Coming from World/Rise this needs some time for adjusting.
Does anyone have a good list of which quests unlock the hunter arts for Insect Glaive?
You have to raise your Hunter Rank (HR+)
So does Striker still allow you to charge up the Kinsect? Cause it seems like something that would have been left off.
No you can still charge it you just hold a
Thanks.
Is there any idea of a U.S. release?
I main GS in MH4U but if I were to play IG, since I haven't before, striker seems my style. But my main question is the hearing skill from the buffed state, is it regular or high grade? It seemed like that Gamuto roar did nothing.
Regular Earplugs buff
Woot, 1500th like.
I'm loving Ariel Style.
What Armor Set is that? Not sure i'm looking for the right stuff.
Yian Garuga
How to set armor name?
Background music theme name?
w8 do all these apply to mh4u as well and if not which combos can i not do on mh4u
+Andre Sifuentes No this is only for MHX, I have done a separate series of weapon tutorials on MH4U on the channel already.
On aerial IG, what does a regular evade do?
The standard aerial jump roll
+Rath flame (Rathflame) The idea being is to use the normal aerial roll to perform your air attacks when up close, while using the forward pole vault for closing distances.
+Bryanneo1 Or to escape from Large Monsters if you're in pinch.
Attack boost on glaive has been removed.
No
i really suck at glaive..but thanks for this..subscribed..^_^
Anyone know if you still upgrade the Insect Glaives the same way you do in MH4U? Upgrading your bug first then upgrading your weapon.
+TheGraveJoker Actually it's much better now - your Kinsect upgrade is separate from your weapon upgrade, so you can do whichever one you want first. The system is also a lot more straight forward - I'll do a video on it at some point :)

+TheGraveJoker gaijin hunter has a video dedicated to upgrading Kinsects, if you wanna check that out.
+TheGraveJoker gaijin hunter has a video dedicated to Kinsects upgrade paths, if you wanna check that out.
a quick question, is the charged Kinsect attack new to mhx? or can it be done in mh4u?

Also how do you lock on in this game?
by default the monster icon in the bottom screen of the 3ds can be selected (when you found the monster) then press the L button. This way, anytime the monsters moves away you can manually lock on to the monster again
