What I really love about this is the fact that they managed to make all the weapons more fun to use. Before I don't think I ever played with someone using a bow, bowgun, or hunting horn in multiplayer but now I think all the weapons are a lot more balanced so I think we will see a lot of players playing with a lot of different weapons.
I definitely have some ideas for builds of Heavy Bowgun sets. Especially one for the Deviant Glavy set with the whole Polisher gimmick. And I think it's funny that HBG gets it's own Speed buff Hunter Art.
+Justin St-Georges I'm definitely going to do that, but I'll likely do that once the game launches as there's a lot of stuff to talk about - skills and all, that'd be more useful in English :)
would like to just discuss the idea of best arts and style. In my opinion the best style is ether Aerial or Bushido with the reason being that you can roll out of (and back into) siege mode. Siege mode is a Heavy Bowguns big draw as a light bowgunner, while not meant for damage, can still do amazing damage via rapid up Pierce rounds with rapid fire while staying mobile. In the mean time, a heavy bowgunner needs to take stance and that's just asking for a sudden hit to the face as it takes a few seconds to not only finish firing but a few to unstance and dodge and try and reposition in critical distance. Bushido is in my opinion the best choice however the Aerial does have it's advantages (as most cases both result in chain siege mode with little fear). The Acceleration shot will be a must take on Guild Style as the lack of mobility kills any player (ask any Lancer or Great sword player how nice a self sharpening sheathe would be XD) and while gunpowder is a good damage boost, since it's only good draw would be with siege mode it doesn't help the long as set-up time. In the mean time, we have the aerials and Bushidos with Supernova running around, chain siegeing a monster at critical distance and as long as they know when and how to dodge correctly will always be contributing to the fight until they need to use non-siege rounds. They can even contribute burst damage now thanks to Supernova, the Heavy Bowgun's best skill (imo). That is my opinion, coming from an originally Gunner in MH (play on playstation 2...ah memories) and remembering why I went blademaster after a while (and I tried damnit!). Heavy bowgun has damage but if you have to be a sitting duck when monsters can deal the best part of half you health easy with little openings for your own efforts then there is no point. Now however I think we will see a good surge of heavy Bowguns now and I think I will return to my original preferred position (though I will still Gun Lance, that shit is too fun!)
You should also have mentioned that in bushido style, after performing the absolute evade, while doing the special reload, you can hold in the direction you want to face which turns your hunter around and ontop of that movement, you can immediately tap A to shoot really fast. This is important because it also cuts the animation for the power reload shorter which allows you to input another command faster, such as a second evade or to shoot again.
+ClockworkHeart42 As a long time HBG user, I completely agree with this. I also have to wonder if you can stack Load Gunpowder with the Power Reload for some insane damage. I honestly think Bushido will be the best style for HBG. With that insane built-in evade, Evade Distance is no longer a "mandatory" skill. Given how good the evade is, I don't think you'll really need to take Acceleration Shower either, meaning your one art can be freely used on Load Gunpowder, giving the hopefully epic combo of Load Gunpowder>Bushido Dodge>Power Reload>Siege for a MASSIVE burst of damage.
Aerial and Adept will be my go-to styles for Heavy Bowgun purely because both styles give me two different mobility options that IMO are equally awesome.
Best style for HBG has to be adept or Bushido, i mean you don't lose anything, you can roll in and out of siege mode, so if you have a gun that has a lot of siege ammo you can constantly spam it and the Bushido evade is extremely handy as well as the dash you can do as it covers a longgggg distance, pair this with gunpowder infusion and you're good to go
The hunter arts says light bowgun instead of heavy, you might want to change that! otherwise thanks for the awesome tutorials, can we get something on the prowler mode please please?
gotta say bushido those close calls ive had with savage jho and raging jang lol to be able to get away would be super good tbh aerial style is good but having to stay close with the gunner armour can be a bit risky

I like playing with lightbowgun with a rapid pellet 2 so i never miss when i arial vault over them and i can still get out of the way. Arial is like the better bushido because if a monster is running at you, jump into them and X-A to vault over while shooting so they basically run under you while u shoot them. Its also a lot easier to dodge with it than bushido/adept because it requires such a small window to get it to dodge.
Most people think that adept is so great for heavybowgun but I am not seeing it. Having the best control over siege mode makes it a LOT more usable which can add up to ridiculous amount of damage if you can keep the chain going. Not only that but the aerial attack can still help you dodge a ton of attacks, it also lets you reposition quickly while also recovering your ammo. For the lbg adept is probably better but I don't think its true for HBG
Why aren't you seeing it? I don't think it's neccesarily better than aerial but you get extra damage with power reload, extra i-frames on your dodges, and don't really suffer from anything compared to aerial. In fact I think aerial can screw you over depending on the monster/the monsters attack
Kiri Senpai Adept is pretty good solo. In big groups you may not get targeted much or at all. Anyway, They are not bad upon closer inspection, in fact, it can do a lot of damage
With online play I always opt for ranged attack because close range is just too much of a cluster most of the time. I'm used to limiter removed HBG (no siege mode), Trajectory skill, Evade Extend and mainly Pierce Up with the Sharp Shooter food buff for my Normal shots. I've only seen MHX videos and from what I can tell Arial style looks best suited to me IF my weapon doesn't have much deviation in the shots. If I can stay at a good range I'm going Arial because I can roll out of the way in Siege mode if the monster looks like they'll use a ranged attack OR hop over them if they charge me. If the weapon has a lot of deviation, meaning I'll wanna be in close, then Bushido looks like the better option. I also like how mobile Arial seems considering the reaction time you get from a distance. Going into it from MH4U I'll probably start with Striker since I didn't use Siege mode before, but I hope to get outta that mode as soon as I get some good skills.
It doesn't hurt to note that the powerful shots from the Gunpowder HA stack; though it seems like you should be going through the rather fast. Personally, I haven't really cared much for Bowguns since MHF2 and I was planning on passing on them this time as well, until seeing these guides.
***** wow i kinda didn't expect you to respond but i wanted to thank you for making the mh4u weapon workshops because i doubt i would of gotten in to monster hunter without them
Thanks for this awesome video series, Arekkz. :) It made me even more hyped for the realease of MHGen in the West, and I decided thanks to you that I'll try using the Gunner weapons even more in it.
I hate how the bowgun reticles in MHGen forces you to actually adjust your aim a little bit higher or else your shot will hit the freaking ground. I'm pretty sure this was not the case in MH3U and MH4U, because there the reticle is spot on and is actually calibrated with the gun's muzzle.
can someone please tell me a good all-round LBG and HBG each for hunting monsters in MHXX? (i usually use bowguns for big monsters or elder dragon) i'm low on materials so just one each please (or some suggestions with explanations so i can pick) thanks im advance
If you're just about to go into High Rank, the Kirin Light bowgun is good, because you can always take advantage of elemental weaknesses(not dragon though). The Malfestio is a good Heavy, because you have access to all of the Status effect shots, and you can siege Para and Sleep, which means that you can become a mad bomber pretty easily. Actually my Dreadqueen support gunner setup is going to feature the Malfestio heavy, because Dreadqueen armor has status crit and status up. Full disclosure, I'm not a Bowgun main, but I'm trying to get into them. My main weapons are actually Gunlance (because Explosions) and Insect Glaive, though once I get my Silverwind Nargacuga set, I'll probably mix Sword and Shield in the my Speed Glaive.
I'm already HR 280 and just bored with the melee weapons because I've been playing only them for the past 3 generations so i wanna switch over for some big while lol" (I main SA, DS, LS, CB, IG, and GS) Thanks for answering!
Evade Extender is one of the primary skills Heavy bowgunners obtain. Not ONLY does it have defensive use, but it allows you faster distance control to stay in critical distance, whether thats rolling towards or away from a monster. it also lets you chase monsters without sheathing the HBG a lot better. Adept styles special dodge is not a COMPLETE replacement to evade extender, but proper use of adept style with it's long range and it's run allows you to choose to forgo evade extender. Most Great HBG mains are using adept, but if you can manage to land all your shots in Ariel by some miracle then who knows perhaps a specific HBG with particular siege bullets on a specific monster is the best way to kill it and it's just undiscovered. that said don't limit yourself to one style perhaps your adept 80% of the time but Ariel vs a Naruga Because it works way better for you and how you play / react etc. (dunno why you'd ariel a naruga But W/e you do you boo-boo)
+Ferriano Im primarily striker actually. But I come from a time where evade extender wasn't a thing. So to me it's a luxury that isn't a super high priority.
mhDarkWolf in Japanese games it's not used a lot most just use adept and forgo evade extender. without adept or evade extender though your positioning requirements take more time. It's not about the luxury or ease of use, just about being at critical distance and firing more often. newer players like it for it's defensive properties, veterans only care about the damage boost from adept dodge, and critical distance advantage from EE That said most people aren't running EE anymore just getting by with adepts super dodge and run for positioning.
I have a problem why i cant used my bow or any kinds of long ranged weapons such as light bow gun and heavy bow gun???When i buy bow it said(Incompatible armor or arts will be removed)Help me pls!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else notice that lower level ammo tends to charge up your hunter arts faster then higher level ammo? I swear that the level 1 and 2 ammo charged the arts faster then the level 3.
Gotta be honest your mix set Monday's was really bad no hunting horn And the sets there was only a few good sets like 2 but i still have high hopes for your mix set Monday's for cross
I hate to be the one to say this, your guide is accurate (props to that), but the way you play the weapon just makes me want to look away. NEVER do first person aiming PERIOD, especially not at point blank range.
+Walrus Wraith To each their own. I've been gunning since Freedom 1, and I always use first-person, regardless of distance. But I probably only do that because I started before Bowguns got third-person aiming.
bowguns are difficult to use, because your ammo will be limited therefore if you run out of level 2 or 3 ammo, youre dead dude, that thing will take forever to kill a monster more over you are stuck with hunting one monster at a time, because after killing one monster will use all of your ammo moreover you will have to prepare insane ammount of gold to stock up ammo the point is,, bowguns are suck, dont use it
Congrats on finishing a fabulous series!

I'm already HR 280 and just bored with the melee weapons because I've been playing only them for the past 3 generations so i wanna switch over for some big while lol"
(I main SA, DS, LS, CB, IG, and GS)
Thanks for answering!
what set is that and which weap you're using?
Hi are you going tro with the monster hunter siries ?
Great Series! But what about a tutorial of the 15th weapon?
what 15th weapon?
When will generations come out?
Im going to main hbg for generations. But Im not entirely sure as to what style I want
Try them all when the demo comes out
Evade Extender is one of the primary skills Heavy bowgunners obtain.
It's not about the luxury or ease of use, just about being at critical distance and firing more often.
newer players like it for it's defensive properties, veterans only care about the damage boost from adept dodge, and critical distance advantage from EE
That said most people aren't running EE anymore just getting by with adepts super dodge and run for positioning.
does load gunpowder affect supernova
Does the critical range apply for MHP3 on psp?
Does anyone know how the armor is called wich he uses in the video?
Thanks for the video
Did you that type fault, he wrote "hunter arts light bowgun". Despite that detail congrats on finishing a good series.
Does anybody know how much of an improvement to reload and recoil you get from the shower art?
I just tried it... its awesome. Maybe 40%? Give or take...? God Bless.
Recoil and reload is reduced in stages I believe, so it kinda depends. I was hoping someone else knew how many. I'll just test it out myself.
MHG will be the first MH game for me n I can't wait
+Silver Hawk oh you'll love it
Remember to research as much as you can. Especially about skills, monster weaknesses and such. It'll be difficult without.
Does the shower buff allies?
nope, just yourself
can you not power run after a power reload?
Will monster hunter be released on Sony platforms by any chance? One of the reasons I liked monster hunter is the good graphics on PSP...
***** oh well, thats so sad.
In the hunter arts section your graphic says "Hunter Arts Light Bowgun" instead of saying Heavy Bowgun.
What's that cool looking set!! i wanna know!!!
I use the HBG for siege, so. xP
The Glavenus HBG looks so hot, can't wait to unlock it.
Hellblade is even better!
I have a problem why i cant used my bow or any kinds of long ranged weapons such as light bow gun and heavy bow gun???When i buy bow it said(Incompatible armor or arts will be removed)Help me pls!!!!!!!!!
Its because youre using blademaster armor. Switch to Gunner armor so you can use ranged weapons.
+ForgivenessSaveMe Ow thanks bro i did not know that!Do you know what specific monsters do i kill to build a gunner armor set?
You could go for rathalos and get his set. AuM and Weakness Exploit. Just gem it in to get it.
Okay thanks bro your very helpful!!!
Nah man, i only know basic stuff lol. Add me my NID so i can help you. But i havent updated yet so yeah, just add me anyway. My NID is GDMT
finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else notice that lower level ammo tends to charge up your hunter arts faster then higher level ammo? I swear that the level 1 and 2 ammo charged the arts faster then the level 3.
If it's normal s 3, it does less damage per shot than 2 but can ricochet. Could be why it charges the bar slower
Probably while in the video he was in the proper positionings for the critical hits.
+God69a same with pierce 3, less damage, but goes further
Hunter Arts Light Bowgun ?
What armor set is featured in the thumbnail?
Hororo Horuru or something similar to that. When Monster Hunter Generations is out in the west it's gonna be called Malfestio; Hes an owl monster.
+Brian Metcalf Ah yes, I know Horo. Couldn't tell it was Horo armour from the picture. It looked like G Rank Lagi gear to me.
***** Horo armour seems to be very jester-like. And the thumbnail doesn't have the spikes to be lagi armor X)
What armor is that?
Well looks like I have to use all the Gunner weapons now rather than just LBG.
Why did it say light bow gun and not heavy bow gun
+Alexandro Cruz I made a mistake and forgot to update the title, sorry! :'(
+Arekkz Gaming Don't worry your still the best youtuber ever
When i use siege mode there's no crosshair in the screen how to fix that?
Tap ur right button :)
ah, is there a setting that i can change it to analog instead using the right directional d-pad?
I feel like theres gotta be a cat tutorial
or the hunter arts are super good or striker style is screwed
Weird how so many of the armors look like they're weapons by themselves
Gotta be honest your mix set Monday's was really bad no hunting horn And the sets there was only a few good sets like 2 but i still have high hopes for your mix set Monday's for cross
It's shameful howmany of the comments are light bowgun
I love using the limiter crap
Lmao power barrel & limited revolver in 4G/4U is too op on max raw hbg. Increases ur atk very high along with charms and talons
how old is this game?
+Ashton Z it's new, it's just on 3DS :)
at 7.53 ??? Light Bowgun? hmm nah you're good.
i just noticed that nobody wants to call it Crouching Fire haha Siege Mode all the way!
Hunter arts: light bowgun?
I think you made a mistake there
Just realized that has already been pointed out
My bad
the titles in the vid say light bowgun.
I hate to be the one to say this, your guide is accurate (props to that), but the way you play the weapon just makes me want to look away. NEVER do first person aiming PERIOD, especially not at point blank range.
+Walrus Wraith I know! XD
He did said he wasnt a full on gunner though! :D
+Walrus Wraith yeah, apologies, haha, Bowgun isn't my forte :'(
+Walrus Wraith To each their own. I've been gunning since Freedom 1, and I always use first-person, regardless of distance. But I probably only do that because I started before Bowguns got third-person aiming.
Well SOMETIMES at non close range it's ok to use first person aiming if you want to be really sure you break a monster part
that error though
"light bowgun"
bowguns are difficult to use, because your ammo will be limited
therefore if you run out of level 2 or 3 ammo, youre dead dude, that thing will take forever to kill a monster
more over you are stuck with hunting one monster at a time, because after killing one monster will use all of your ammo
moreover you will have to prepare insane ammount of gold to stock up ammo
the point is,, bowguns are suck, dont use it
12th
lol not light bowgun bro
I can tell you were very tired when you you made this video. Not just your voice but the typos in the end.
yeah, his voice is different with the other vids, he seemed, like, tired on this vid. usually he's like excited on his vid
third
