Great Vid. As close as they are in what they do it comes down to looks. Ducati all day. The wife has been on my V4s for a full day of travel. She had zero complaints
Another great video Scott! I just put a deposit down on a 1300 with he 719 package. I really appreciate all the excellent videos and information! It truly helped me make my decision. I had a 2019 GSA and loved it. I am looking forward to being back on a GS again! Take care!
BMW is like an alien machine. How on earth could a team of designers come up with something so out of the ordinary and really really ugly like nothing else
Thank you for a different look at the two bikes. I wonder if the spoked wheels are an option on the Ducati? I do have a suggestion on taking static measurements and I think it is important to look at these parameters. 1. Side case location on the bike to determine the center of weight distribution of the cases weight relative to the rear axle front to back. This has a dramatic effect on the handling of the bikes when carrying luggage for long trips. When i carry the same loads on my old RT and my old Multistrada, the Multi would handle the camping cargo load much better. The RT was much more impacted by the load. 2. Passenger rear seat center relative to the rear axle location. Again, this seriously effects how the bike handles when a passenger is carried, just one inch difference or even less can make major changes to how the bike feels when two up! 3. When seated on the bike place a long level across the top of the windshield to the rider. Find the zero level and measure where that hits the riders helmet with the windshield all the way up ad all the way down. This is a better determination of how effective the protection will be. 4. How hard is it to place each bike on the centerstand with luggage loaded? 5. Sit on the bike and see how soft or hard the seat is. 6. Mount the bikes and add a passenger, feel how roomy they are and judge comfort. 7. Do the bikes balance on the centerstand when you remove each wheel for a flat repair? You can judge this if you place weights on the rear racks to represent the front wheel weight for front wheel removal. 8. Lets do it!
A big item in the decision is the heat from the rear cylinders on Ducati. On the Rally version they addressed it with rear cylinder deactivation. To my knowledge the GT and V4S models sadly do not have this feature.
However, this has nothing to do with the heat but with saving fuel. The GT has the option of opening the cooling shaft at the front. That will certainly help a little.
Nice one Scott. Thank you. Would’ve liked to see measurements from a riders perspective. Using yourself as the consistent factor. Measurements from sweat to pegs, torso to grips, height of screens to height of rider, rider triangle comparison, etc.
Thank you, yea, hind sight is 20/20 we always say. This was just a spontaneous video, actually thought about it about and then less than 1 hour later I'm filming. If I had planned it, like I normally do, then I would have had all the other stuff in it. Take care, Scott
At the moment i'm waiting to get my hands on Moto Guzzi Stelvio and Suzuki GSX S-1000GX to make my final decision for the 2024 purchase. Hopefully you could get the opportunity to share your experiences as well. 🏍️
Ducati all day long , I can't get over the looks of the gs ! I've had 16 gs's and though this would be the one for me but NOOOO lack of exhaust not noisy motor and looks only a mother would love the bmw is. I longer for me !
one week ownership and 500 miles in on my RT just love it wow, can you do more videos on the RT any modes oil changes etc etc when you have a chance thanks!
Hi Scott . Love your videos and all your technical data but you measured the pillion seat at the wrong point. I do a lot of 2up riding about 10k per year. My wife’s bum does not sit on the front of the seat which you measured but towards the rear of the seat as on my GSA. Recently I got my local BMW dealer to measure the pillion seat on the 1300 and the GS1250 in the showroom. The triangular shape of the 1300 seat renders it 3 inches not centimetres narrower than the 1250. Needless to say that’s a big question mark for my wife in terms of long mileage comfort and a worry about what they’ll do with the new GSA. As they say in the carpentry trade, measure twice and cut once 👍
Even dealing with the bad weather you pulled out once more an interesting and useful video🙌 Thank you. One of the targets of BMW was to make a smaller GS with gains on overall performance. Looking at both bikes as you demonstrated here, the Multistrada looks more like a BMW GSA than to a GS. The V4S looks bulkier, and maybe it is not very handle friendly for shorter or less bigger riders, I imagine. If size matters, sometimes, smaller can be better. Long term ownership will tell which is ultimately a better choice. I think that in conjunction with other factors, Reliability is an important factor for the costumer of each one of this bikes. I would appreciate to know your thoughts on this. If you’ve addressed the subject on a prior video, could you be so kind to share it’s reference ? Ride safe ✌🏻hope the weather cooperates 👌🏻
Thank you! Yea, Ducati have always had quality issues, yes, I'm saying it "kindly" and that is why BMW has one of the best resale values like Honda. If I were to buy an ADV bike solely based on reliability, I would not get the Ducati...needless to say. But and I'm not defending Ducati, but their focus is today and always has been "performance first" and it shows in their line-up of bikes. BMW is often about comfort/quality/tech...etc. and performance is way down on the list, probably not even in the top 10 list of goals for a BMW. I used to chase power and performance in my early/mid adult life, now that I'm past all that hooliganism, Ducati seem a little adolescent or immature to me. Sure they are fun to ride but after a while on a Ducati I'm tired and just want to get off the bike, whereas a BMW I can ride and ride all day long and keep going and going. I guess this is what happens to us old guys 🤣😢 Take care, Scott
@@NothingToProvethanks for replying. Yeah, I agree the beauty is often on the eyes of the beholder 😂but it’s not just beauty, other aspects that matter, are too. Headaches , nowadays I persistently try to avoid them😂 That’s true! 👍🏻
Ducati all the way (said by a 1200GS owner but can´t stand the ceiling fan look of the lamp and the overall design which lacks what made the 1200-1250´s so beautiful). His conclusion is worth watching the whole video. Thanks. BTW, why is this guy whispering?
Are we paying less for the 1300 woth the case stop sale? Or are we just not getting expensive cases for our money? Im ready to buy but that could be the deal breaker since the loaded V4S is cheaper than the loaded 1300 but has cases too!
Ducati radar is smaller but for me i like the gs radar more, specially on the front. On the ducati it really stands out and im finding it not that nice looking. The gs sure its a big one but there it looks more like its part of the bike. Heat button im sure its engineered to work fine but having it in place right behind the drivers butt.. i dont know.. i prefer buttons on the side physical but also digital in the infotainment system like on my indian pursuit. Backlit controls seem nice, my pursuit doesnt come with that but there is an option to buy them. Although my bike doesnt have so much buttons so i dont really need it unlike on these two bikes.
I really wish BMW had got whoever designed the luggage for the Ducati to design the luggage for the GS, I really don't like the new vario luggage on the BMW, it's far too angular.
Young = Ducati Old = BMW Understand? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But I didn't buy the GS for me, it's for my channel and my target audience, older, mature rider, every time I do a video on the 1300GS it gets double and tripple the views that any other bike gets. I will sell the GS to one of my subscribers this summer. To you perhaps 😁🤞😉😎 Take care, Scott
Yep, agreed. The surprising thing though is that no other OEM sells even a third of what they sell ever single year. I think it's the old "jack of all trades, master of none" rule that the adventure rider likes so much about the GS. Take care, Scott
I dont like all the plastic on the topside of the newer bikes that is unpainted. It makes them look cheap. What was wrong with painting the bikes parts??
If I could…and I can’t….the Ducati would win hands down…if I could afford either I wouldn’t be bothered by fuel costs for that extra wow factor that the BMW just hasn’t got
I am trying to decide between these actual two bikes and this is very helpful. My wife wants German but that Italian is gorgeous!!
Go for the Ducati, I did and I love my Duc.

Nice bike. Enjoy!
Looking at both of them side by side the ducati wins on the looks
BMW is like an alien machine. How on earth could a team of designers come up with something so out of the ordinary and really really ugly like nothing else
exactly, Ducati so much beautiful
Nice video. Noticed full floating front rotor on Ducati vs. semi-floating on the BMW. The forged BMW wheel comes with full floating however.
great video! great new type of comparison, very useful, and very exclusive
This was fun. What we all try to do at dealerships. Thanks!
I also like your comfort vs performance synthesis. Currently have a KTM 1290 SAS, I would just call it “angry” ha

Great video as always! Please, could you measure how wide is GS engine? I was wondering if I could fit through my door :)
You can rotate the USB up so its easier to remove the cover and plug in a cable

Very surprised as the "lack" of switchgear lighting on the BMW. That should simply not be over looked by the manufacturer.
How about measuring the Rider seats??
KTM 1290 SAS, Multistrada, GS 1300? Which one is your favorite in terms of power, comfort, etc?
I would also add lights and night visibility to the comparison. Great video anyway. Thanks

Excelent video!🎉
Young man go Multistrada. Old man god GS
Either one please. 👍
You said the BMW is copier but can you say why you felt so? Does one rider triangle allow your knee angle to be wider?
I thought you said you bought the GS for us, so that would be "our GS"........LOL

yea, I noticed the same re: radar. Although Ducati rear radar looks better in my opinion.
Seat / peg distance?
this is probably the most important for the leg

other great video Scott
Thanks. Nice video
That smaller left side pannier is the only downside and of course that compartment for your phone it terrible on the V4GT

Scott, as a proud owner of a RT, why did you go for another BMW with a focus on comfort instead of a performance-minded Ducati?
Young = Ducati

I will be waiting for the GSA to come our way. BMW just let them selves down tho on the little things ie No back lit switches, Phone charging ext..
Yep, agreed. The surprising thing though is that no other OEM sells even a third of what they sell ever single year. I think it's the old "jack of all trades, master of none" rule that the adventure rider likes so much about the GS.

A great video (as always). Just wonder when you are gonna test Moto Guzzi Stelvio 2024. ?
Editing the video right now, the video will be up on Saturday 👍😊
Thanks for your answer. Looking forward to watching it.
Ducati is much better looking but such a shame about the fuel economy.
Bike manufacturers need to do better at hiding those radar sensors, especially BMW. Ducati not too bad.
Great comparisons Scott! The BMW gets my vote. Performance is one element, but so are fuel stops. Ohh, and chain or shaft? I’d take a shafting😉😎
Have had both. The GS is hands down a better bike in my opinion. Looks are subjective, but my Ducati always looked like it had a bird face.
R1250 adventure BMW my dreams 😊❤🎉
I dont like all the plastic on the topside of the newer bikes that is unpainted. It makes them look cheap. What was wrong with painting the bikes parts??
If I could…and I can’t….the Ducati would win hands down…if I could afford either I wouldn’t be bothered by fuel costs for that extra wow factor that the BMW just hasn’t got
You should have weighed them both?
Don't have a scale.
See the 1300gs shaft needs to be replaced every 80000km and the customer needs to pay. No thanks.
The first pay by the BMW, I think. So 160k km not too short period. ;)
I’ll take the larger fuel tank and shaft drive.
Ducati all the way 🇮🇹
Ducati is more funny, bmw is boring
