As far as easy outs go , those ones work pretty good . Great to see a bit of TPG action as well . That's one flash trailer , never seen one before with hyd operated ramps to the gooseneck . Cheers .

really like your channel, always watch the videos as they come out. liked this one a lot as well. i was an automotive tech for over 20 years and a master tech. i relied heavily on the extractor set you used in this video. i liked it both for the parallel design on the extractor that does not wedge the work out as bad, but also the drill guides that come in the set. if it's o through hole just go for it. if the extractor breaks you can punch it out. and you can still go again. if that doesn't work out you can use the center drill piece. once center drilled i have been able to use my drill index, ultimately pull what was left out like a slinky. also use time cert products any where every where. they don't recommend for metals other than alum. but i think i will wait till it stops working. never ben beaten by a bolt or nut. an air hammer can also be invaluable in this situation. thanks for sharing.

Way to funny, I also have used torques tips in my hammer style bit driver, but they have to be good quality ones. I have a Kubota k005 gray market excavator and I took out the spool valves from the control block thinking they were all the same and you know what they're not and I didn't mark them. Any idea how I can tell where they go again. Thanks in advance.
Hey Gary, would it be possible to know the symptoms of the hydraulics when the spool was busted by the tire? In fact, what's the kind of issues you'll face when you have a spool valve problem? I have an issue with old backhoe on the back of my tractor. When i pull just a little on the joystick that operate the main cylinder for the boom, the boom will slowly fall down but when i pull all the way down, it will move up like it's supposed to. Also when my bucket is heavily loaded, it will stuggle to lift or simply won't lift at all. Do you have any suggestions on where to start toubleshooting this? I think about checking the spool valve but I was curious to know your opinion on that. All the rest of the cylinders are working just fine, except this one.... so I do not think it's a pump issue. I am VERY clueless about all this I never touched hydraulic stuff before but I am willing to put the work to fix it. Let me know and thank you for sharing this is awesome to wactch.
Im a heavy equipment mechanic and we work on hydraulic valves like that all the time one of the most handiest things i have in my tool box is a pack of colored zip ties so i dont get mixed up
Otto, sorry so late getting back to you. The Lathe I used at home with the tool post grinder is a Cincinnati tray top. The other Lathe is a early 1960s regal LeBlond. Gary
Why would the spool need to be brought down? I have a sticking spool, doesn't want to slide through freely. Used some emery cloth, tab of corrosion, flakes of chrome coming off. Friend thinks cylinder maybe wobbled in spot or two, thinking of honing if I can find one that fits. So you didn't really take down the piston the whole length just on end. Why would spool expand on the end?
Hydraulic pumps are very delicate . . wrecked the guts out of drill rig project one by I thought fairly gentle means by getting its pulley gear off . . use proper pullers
Dale, I do use my share of left-handed bits. But in this application I would’ve had to heat up the spools do to the locktite , was trying to avoid doing that. I appreciate you checking out the video. Gary
Probably a stupid question, but when you showed the finished valve block, what's with all the colored strings? Was that just to soak up any oil to indicate a leak? If so, is that just for pressure testing, or do you leave the strings on?
24:19 Okay lets start here. I have a leak maybe two. Or even three. And I'm thinking this O'ring here might be why... Is it possible to remove that ring, while the body is still on truck? Mine is a 6 spool. And I think i have this issue. It's not real bad, but is dripping.
Well my tools suck. So I asked a mechanic I knew. He's claiming something is keeping him from separating the controls from the spool.. Something black. It's time, and he didn't want to get filthy I say. So 2 leaking is better than all of them. So at least I know a little more about it now.. I can't get shitt done.. $$$$
Trail King makes good trailers. Think I would have put that valve body somewhere else and not right on top of the tires. That is an engineer not knowing the real world...

I like those Blue Point extractors.
I've had good luck with using a torques bits for extraction of broken bolts.

How can I make the hole for the bollbearing for a check valve on 428 Tlb valve bank . the small one on the side cat tlb pls

I got some left hand center drills and drill bits. Lots of time they will screw them selves out. Win win

As you can see in the video, you can remove the ORing with the valve in place.

I worked on a hydraulic beaver tail that got hit and mangled the cylinder mounts. Cut stuff out and welded new in. Al B.
