While I understand you are cautioning people not to think that a minor shaft change (from ventus red to ventus black) is going to have a major difference in launch and spin, could you not get a fairly substantial change in launch and/or spin variance by changing the model along with flex, such as a 65 g regular flex ventus red vs a 65 g tour stiff ventus tr black (assuming you could get the same strike with each due to the weight being the same)? With the same head I would think you could get some pretty high variance in launch and spin (also potentially speed and dispersion, but that's another issue). If not, then you guys (or MyGolfSpy) need to talk to the shaft manufacturers because they are the ones marketing the differences between the shafts being launch and spin differences.
I didn’t want to believe the hype but the Taylormade mini driver has been the best club I’ve purchased for years! Reliable and versatile with plenty of distance 🔥
After testing the ping 10k against my g425 max, I ordered the 10k immediately. Noticeable improvement in left-right dispersion. And I’ve had no regrets. It’s never been a promise of perfect straight. But saving 5-10 yards of lateral dispersion curve over an already forgiving driver translates for me more fairways and lower scores. And it’s not spiny like the TM and I think that’s why the qi10 fails.
10k is the best thing to get without needing to get fitted. any golfer can use it seeing immediate results without having to get fitted with a specific design which is most likely the intended purpose of the release of 10k
I think people want to try to fit the ball to their driver because it seems easier and CHEAPER to them. Consumer brain says that fix should only costsa quick fifty bucks, instead of a new driver or a fitting to get their driver better adjusted to their needs.
Love the trend of shifting players away from carrying a 3 wood in general, esp for those with lower swing speeds. Going Dr/4/7 or even Dr/5/9 can benefit lots of golfers. Love the greater emphasis on combo sets in fittings. Didn’t particularly love the choice of Ventus Red vs Ventus Black for high vs low spin shafts though.
I agree. Found a weird combo that works great and at the same time, removing the snaphooks completely. D/5w turned down to 4w plus a shorter shaft/7W and a 4 Hybrid turned down to almost a 2H with head flattened (Ping hybrids ftw). The 7W have been an awakening especially.
@@marcuszettergren8885 Not weird at all. Nearly every single golfer I met who drives 250 or less prefers their 5 wood over their 3 wood for overall reliability and ease of use, even off a tee. So I ask them why they carry a club they never use and nearly all of them haven’t had a good reason. Just like some say play the softest shafts you can stand, I also say play the shortest clubs you can stand. Swing speed 108, 109 and I play a 44.75 stiff flex driver, 42.5 stiff flex 3 wood, 42 regular flex 5 wood. Better smash factors, better dispersion, and on the days I’m not feeling my strongest I can still swing my clubs.
I would highly recommend everyone carry the following until they have a really good reason: Driver, 4W, 7W, 5-LW Some player prefer irons and could play a 3 or 4 driving iron, but it’s far less commonly going to work than a 4W/7W combo
@@BigDawgCAM I’d even go so far as to say a 5 hybrid and 6 hybrid. I switched to the freddy couples setup about 4 months before he made it famous and being able to hit a 6hyb 110ft high with a 47 land angle and stop on a dime is basically cheating.

The results from the Ventus Red vs. Ventus Black is exactly what you'd expect based on their marketing material. You may have done this before, but it could be worth a more thorough test.
Ian please hold a seminar at my local Club Champ. They have no idea what they're talking about to a degree where even someone who has no knowledge about clubfitting can tell that they have no idea what they're talking about.
They absolutely have an idea... they know exactly how to smoke and mirror a fitting while putting you in the most expensive aftermarket shaft that they have the biggest commission tied to at the time
I think the test actually somewhat disproved what y’all were saying with the shafts, .3° of launch and 300 RPM more spin was the difference between balls and the same difference between shafts.
The 300 RPM came from strike point. Ian consistently hit the low heel portion which causes spin to kick up. I will say that I’m surprised that Ian struck the Ventus Red lower in the head but it ended up with higher launch. But he’s not a machine.
never understood fitting a ball to a driver, just from a math perspective. Odd that it caught on in such a way that people would change their ball for almost zero difference.
Matching a ball to a driver is interesting. I never considered that. I've suggested on other channels it would be fun to see manufacturer ball and driver vs. others. So Titleist top ball and top driver vs TaylorMade top ball and top driver...etc. For every manufacturer that makes a ball and driver, test those against every other.
Alot of people on here talking negative about the mini driver have no idea what they are talking about! Average golfers talking like they kno facts! The mini driver is small in length and more compact. A lot of people dislike how big the newer drivers are and rather have a smaller head.. Hense the mini driver! A lot of pros and amateur players have it in ther bag..
Whatever happened with Vokeys having the different thicknesses on the back of their blades that they had with the SM7s? If that was anything more than a gimmick at the time, why don't they still do it now? And if they don't do it now because it doesn't work, why did they do it for the SM7? I never understood this.
Completely disagree with the mini driver being a "best". For 90%+ of golfers there is nothing a mini driver can do that a full sized driver can't do better (other than hitting off the ground, but lets be honest that is what the 3 wood is for and most golfers suck with the 3 wood and would be even worse off the ground with a "2 wood"). If you match them loft for loft and shorten the full size driver's shaft to match the length of the mini, it will be more forgiving and a better fairway finder
I use the driver as it was intended, however I prefer the mini driver on shorter holes that historically I used the three wood off the tee. As you yourself stated, a lot of people struggle with the three wood. The mini driver is soooooo much easier to hit off that fabled three wood tee box. That being said, I still use the three wood of the deck. The mini driver is best in that category, by miles and miles. I wouldn’t sacrifice the distance you get from a driver off normal holes, as the mini driver is minimally straighter but tends to be 20-30 yards shorter (40 for me actually). You have to play the mini in its niche.
@@michaelrandold4656 I get that but what if you had a second full size driver with 3-4 degrees more loft than your regular and 2" shorter shaft? You would get the same benefits of the mini driver but even more forgiving.
It’s an option that had been done before. Horses for courses on that one. I like the fact that i can hit it off the turf and not just another driver but just short but that’s me
i’m not suggesting iain is wrong but can someone please explain how a shaft does not affect launch or spin for me. in all seriousness i’m genuinely confused at the moment.
It’s not that the shaft doesn’t affect launch/spin at all, it’s that the change is only marginal, so if you’re expecting drastic changes (eg 4deg launch, or 1000rpm spin), you’re not going to get that from a shaft alone. You’ll see far more impact from a different change, like loft of the head.
What about the fact that an iron fitting is useless as you can only get fit into a 7 iron. Are you supposed to know a whole set is good for you by hitting a 7 iron? Ridiculous.
How do you think we’ve been so successful all these years by just testing with 6iron Alan?? It’s not by luck I can tell you that. I understand that some who haven’t fit before would struggle to do it but a skilled fitter can do it no issue at all.
@@ianfrasergolf I think golfers now should demand more for a fitting. Testing a 6 or 7 iron give us no idea of how a set is going to play out. Getting fit for a driver, putter, wedge yes as it’s only one club but potentially buying a set of 4-PW and only being able to hit the 6 iron is so poor. It’s more about being a salesman than a club fitter. Absolutely not getting at you guys as you obviously do a great job but just in general.

Ok hack.
8:40 ... louder for the Shaft Fairy believers in the back!!! Preach, lads!!
10k is the best thing to get without needing to get fitted. any golfer can use it seeing immediate results without having to get fitted with a specific design which is most likely the intended purpose of the release of 10k
Golf season just beginning in AZ.
I base my game around the lads
That why you are the man!!! 🤝🏼
So would someone who has more of a neutral AOA be better off with a 10k driver than someone that is quite up on it?
I think people want to try to fit the ball to their driver because it seems easier and CHEAPER to them. Consumer brain says that fix should only costsa quick fifty bucks, instead of a new driver or a fitting to get their driver better adjusted to their needs.
Was about to cop a BRNR mini but now that you said there would be more mini drivers in 2025! The wait continues....😢
Mini drivers and hybrids replacing the 6 iron in a lot of bags..
No mini driver but many drivers 😊
I would highly recommend everyone carry the following until they have a really good reason: Driver, 4W, 7W, 5-LW
Some player prefer irons and could play a 3 or 4 driving iron, but it’s far less commonly going to work than a 4W/7W combo
Dr/4/7 is my setup
sad because my 3 wood goes over 280 off the deck when hit dead center. unfortunately that only happens a couple times a month
Surely the least favorite trend has to be that prices keep going up? 😂
Did anyone else happen to have the previous tm 300mini and move into the brnr? It very well could just be me but the current and ‘23 brnr feels so heavy compared to the 300 series.
I like my 300 Mini
@@lawbinson me too, I’m just a psycho and had to buy the new version, just swapped the heads onto a shaft that worked really well on the 300 and it felt so head heavy compared to the 300
Just weight them both and see if it’s actually true and not just a feeling.
My mini brnr weighed about ~212g last time i checked
The results from the Ventus Red vs. Ventus Black is exactly what you'd expect based on their marketing material. You may have done this before, but it could be worth a more thorough test.
I want to see more one length options.
Don't forget, maxifi it's a fantastic golf ball.
Ping 10K is the real deal Taylormade 10k is the sloth.
The end is nigh…spoken like a true Scottsman! Lol I need to work that word into conversation today…
“Where’s the Uber?”
“It’s nigh…”
Ian please hold a seminar at my local Club Champ. They have no idea what they're talking about to a degree where even someone who has no knowledge about clubfitting can tell that they have no idea what they're talking about.
They absolutely have an idea... they know exactly how to smoke and mirror a fitting while putting you in the most expensive aftermarket shaft that they have the biggest commission tied to at the time
Let’s see some data on the jumbomax grip trend vs a std size grip.
They already did that some time ago - th-cam.com/video/PF3qbGWh2SY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VVMg9nuzEQsvnS_a
I think the test actually somewhat disproved what y’all were saying with the shafts, .3° of launch and 300 RPM more spin was the difference between balls and the same difference between shafts.
Titleist mini driver incoming??
Titleist, can we get a mini driver?
Mini driver is essentially a 3 wood.
Least favourite....ink spatter balls. You just can't find them. The spatter pattern breaks up the outline.....what's wrong with plain old white?
Bright green and bright red are also usually easy to find as well
@@BigDawgCAMBright green?? I would think they’d get camouflaged, but no?
@@KaddywompousThe neon green sticks out from the green of the grass. It's easier for me to find.
It’s a good ball
I like the fact that i can hit it off the turf and not just another driver but just short but that’s me
agree. this channel is now about whatever is trending instead of understanding the technical aspects of club technology
I do not agree.
What do you think the 2025 trends will be?
i’m not suggesting iain is wrong but can someone please explain how a shaft does not affect launch or spin for me. in all seriousness i’m genuinely confused at the moment.
like they did a video with drew cooper talking about how the shaft change flattened out the ball flight and dropped spin significantly.
Why hit any driver of that mini driver???? Like who wouldn't take that as a fantastic tee shot tool? I don't get it.
Guys that have a mini in the bag are the same guys who carry a uroclub
No love for 7 woods
no because none of them use a 7 wood
I could use some of the best! Some clubs for the first comment? 👀😂
I see new Club Champion video, I watch. It’s that simple.
Would an older , slower swing player be better off playing a Mini Driver?
Depends Stephen, very player dependent.
worst trend is mini driver. 2 out of 10 golfers need it while 10 out of 10 want it
Threw up a little when you said AI 🤮 can’t take ya seriously
@@ianfrasergolfI’m from Ireland and coming to Dallas on Boxing Day for a week. How’s about your guys give me a proper fitting. I see I’m only 15 mins drive from Mockingbird Lane when I arrive 😊
Man the 10k performance, or lack thereof, is shocking to say the least. I know it’s very fitting dependent so this may be someone’s best fit, but the flight and especially spin is ridiculous.
10k is not new tech
10k….meh.
Tail end of the season, yet still seeing, WITB for 24. Funny 😂😂
I didn’t get well with 10k driver 🫣
