- People have been debating whether or not Parallel Universes crashed on iQue, so I decided to put it to the test. It turned out to be kind of complicated.

can't believe they named a console after me then misspelled it
no way

How?
@@Vidboyloytwas a joke
This is one of the most frustrating SM64 TAS related videos I've ever seen, but it was all worth it at the end, when we finally successfully went into--
oh it crashed.
I hate to get political, but the country this was released in is just as frustrating to deal with thanks to the pandemic.
Also, I don't think it came out in Hong Kong or Taiwan (which is a country to y'all mainlanders). I suspect Hong Kongers imported their N64s from Britain (prior to the handover) or Australia, while Taiwanese imported their N64s straight from Japan.
i realize Im pretty randomly asking but does anyone know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Cohen Yehuda i use Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
@Abram Travis Yea, I have been watching on FlixZone for since march myself :D
@Abram Travis Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
Finally a justification for giving a time limit preference over the ABC, right?
Really liked how this was structured, good video :o
If the Shindou release of SM64 crashes in a PU then would All-Stars crash in a PU since it's based on the Shindou version?
Not on the Switch, I'm pretty sure its processor can handle PUs.
@@CadBrad It's emulated.
@@SamuelDoesThings2011What does that change exactly?
@@slyp5409 I'm no expert, but something that crashes on real hardware may not crash in emulation when that emulation is done "high-level", by translating the game's code to the equivalent native assembly. This can be down to things like floating-point accuracy, e.g. a float value might be too large to fit into a single variable on N64 and start corrupting nearby values, but if the Switch handles larger floats, then it's no problem there. A 100%-accurate emulator would obviously crash exactly like real hardware in all cases, but Nintendo's goal is not a 100%-accurate emulator, they just want the game to run at full speed, which means taking some shortcuts that are faster like translating to native assembly.
The iQue Player, for those unaware, is an alternative to the N64 released only in (if I remember correctly) China, with an altered design to circumvent China's video game ban. It's a plug-n-play system with (oh god what's he gonna say) built-in controls and games, and a card slot on top to expand the game library if you've got a card with proper iQue ROMs obtained from a legit iQue source.
Thank you. Seemed like a weird choice for the vid to just assume you know what such an obscure console is.
@@GhostGlitch.I prefer this, actually. It's not that hard to figure out what he's talking about if you have access to a search engine and half a brain cell. I'm sick of videos that waste my time giving me the same background information as every other video instead of just getting to the point.
@@ErdrickHero it's not difficult nor intrusive to throw in a single sentence of context as to what the ique was. I don't want to have to switch off a video to get the one sentence of context I need for it to mean anything.
@@GhostGlitch. Lazy
i wish the extra player controllers for the iQue got western releases. obviously that didnt happen because 2003 but i'd definitely prefer using one over a normal n64 pad
Wow! Seemed to take a lot of effort. Nice job solving that puzzle!
but how does the controller feel? that analogue stick looks incredibly interesting
The stick uses standard N64 stick parts. I threw those pristine parts into one of my N64 controllers. The weirdest thing is how warm the iQue gets in your hands.
@@CadBrad oh damn, I didn't even realise it was an ordinary stick with all of that casing around it
How do iQue games look like when the demo time ends?
Mario himself will whip you with his belt for playing outside legal hours and will call xi jinping to help him
Great video!
That was cool! Good video
The iQue looks like a better controller than the ones meant for the real thing.
iQue was the chinese localizations of the N64
one of my cousins has one
this company is basically nintendo's chinese localization company
If someone was watching this I should hope they knew what an ique was
Seems they've ditched the pretense for the Switch
Nice work!
Mairo breaks the law of the universe to not press a button
Could you theoretically replace the iQue ram with the slow ram in a normal n64?
Nah. N64 utilizes RDRAM, iQue uses DDR
@@tezcanaslan2877 makes sense. DDR did not exist when the n64 was made, simply though it was a souped up version of the pre existing RDRAM. Thanks.
Cool video!
Thank you great video
Just because of the content, I thought you had like at least 50k subs. Lol
Yeah, I wish. That's kinda out of my hands though.
Damn those shindou
1:29 Happens on PAL Copies as well, I own a PAL.
nope it doesn't you haven't tried hard enough
Is it know why normal N64 injected games have that problems in the iQue?
Look up the iQueBrew guys and ask them. They probably know more than me.
Baaaaasically, the iQue Player displays games slightly differently to the N64, in such a way that iQue Player games display fine on N64, but not the other way around.
cool
Secwet aquawium
Is the glitched texture at 4:46 PU distance
i think it's pu x and pu y
you should try to build ultrasm64, it has support for the ique! altough im sure its just gonna behave the same as n64 since the rsp is unchanged in the ique, besides im sure it has been tested by now
I mean I hate to say it but
You were having the iQue run the original Nintendo 64 ROM despite the fact that, as you noted, there are a number of differences between these two versions. So it seems less like you proved the iQue version would crash and more like you proved the Nintendo 64 version would crash, which we already knew
It was more of a test to see if the hardware of the iQue would still let it crash. The N64 version of the game can show that, since we know it doesn't crash on emulators. Now, they could have patched the game to fix the crashes, but I seriously doubt that.
@@CadBrad I don't know about the code of Mario 64, but the game crashing when exploring the PU is not necessarily a result of poor hardware. Could be something about how the code is written too where the game just has no idea where to put the camera and basically gives up. After all, the Wii version crashes too, and its hardware seems far more capable.
Whoops I misread it, the Wii version doesn't crash. So maybe it is hardware. Idk
@@laytonspuzzle If you want to know why parallel universes crash on console, watch "Parallel Universes Made Visible" by Peter Fedak.
This doesn’t make any sense, it’s the N64’s flawed math processor that causes the crash, not the ROM. Emulated ROMs of all versions of SM64 can travel to a PU without crashing.
WAIT, THE iQUE HAS FASTER RAM?? KAZE!?
this is probaly going to be HatWearingGamer 2: Electic Boogaloo
because he only has like 3K subs, but one video with over 100K Views.
if i'm right i demand a cookie.
1.95k subs
I honestly have no idea what he’s talking about but okay
I have no idea what I am talking about either.
Wtf was up with the iQue glitching up and shutting down with non iQue roms? Is that a copy protection system too?
Any chance you could link or make a video on unlocking games and or loading games on this brick of a console.
Can someone patch that pu code to the visible pu mod I want to try it on not64 since I'm tired of doing it on my phone with touch controls
Is there any way to stop shutdown timer
Im thinking that there is no way to do that
Can it run Wipeout 64?
Could you test the BitFS 0xA skip please?
That's not going to work, since that's an emulation bug and the iQue runs games natively. If it doesn't work on an N64 there's no reason to believe it's going to work on iQue. Or at least not in this case.
how do you own an iQue?
I bought it on eBay.
He bought one unopened & unused
Wow, I didn't know there was a release of this game that fixed backwards long jumping. Interesting...
there are two versions that cap blj: shidou (only realeased in japan a year later from its orginal realesed) and ique( only realsed in china)
@@AspectCave There's also any Japanese VC release, which are all the Shindou edition, and the 3D All-Stars Version, which is the Shindou edition even outside of Japan.
@@Hijiri_MIRACHION yea
@@Hijiri_MIRACHION but interestingly enough super mario sunshine is based of the PAL (European) version
@@mariohighsierrafox I have not played Sunshine in that collection yet, and I live in a PAL territory anyway. It'd be noticeable to an American, but not someone who's used to PAL and has also never played Sunshine before.
¿Que?
You sound just like Pannenkoek. I had to double check you weren't the same person xD
0:05 tells you the wrong answer
What's the cheat code for the speed counter? Thanks :D
Look at the text at the bottom of address
can you blj on the ique port of SM64?
Nope
Nope because its based of the 1997 shindou rerelease
Same with the 3d all stars collection on the switch
The bljs had been patched in the shindou edition
oik
Obviously it'd crash. You're playing the US VERSION.
That's completely irrelevant with regards to the CPU.
Yeah that’s what I thought. If the US version is unstable then it’s completely out of the question
2:12 why bother with the hyperspeed walk? If you dumped a timelimitless rom onto it shouldn't backwards long jump not be fixed?
He went through it later in the video, the rom has to be the one from the ique otherwise it crashes within 15 seconds, and the ique's rom is based on shindou version which has backwards longjump patched
@@terkey1895 Well, edited roms can be put in, so would it be possible to hack the iQue's rom again, like he did to unlimit the time?
@@Leekodot15 well, it definitely might be possible to get rid of the backwards speed cap, if the ique still runs the rom afterwards, I wonder how much you could actually change before it stops working, or the process to convert a rom to work
it's shindou, not shindu
I know
@@CadBrad I think they were commenting on your pronunciation. "Shindou" is pronounced like the English words "shin-dough".
