Skills Matter, Not Referrals! 💼🎯 | Sidd Ahmed

  • Sometimes hiring through recommendations can backfire 💥. A new employee might show up with no passion or the right skills for the job-just like someone who took up a role only because they had no other option. 🧐 It’s a wake-up call: companies today are moving beyond traditional degrees and certificates. Instead, they are focusing on hiring people with the right skills. 🎓❌
    Degrees are valuable if they help you grow. But it’s your skills that will set you apart in the workplace. So, the takeaway is simple: focus on sharpening your skills. If you’re applying for jobs, make sure you’re ready to show what you can do, not just what you’ve studied. The world is changing-are you ready to evolve with it? 🌍💪

    Referrals that comes through the leaders that you have worked with in past and proved that you do good in the roles assigned to you are important.
    I have seen people who blindly trust referrals from some leaders because they trust that those leaders refer someone only based on their skills and not just because they are their friends or a family member.

    But now a days most of the company preferred referrals. Yesterday also I attended one interview they hve only 15 vacancy but total canditates who attended the interview was around 450 . They easily shortlisted the canditates who have referral. Also I wrote the test so well. One one near me they had a refferal also he didn't attend single question. But they shortlisted for next round.This really scars!!!

      I understand your concern, and it's true that referrals can sometimes play a big role in the hiring process. It can feel unfair, especially when you know you've done your best. However, don't let this discourage you. Keep building your skills, networking, and showcasing your strengths. Keep applying, and consider reaching out to people in your network to see if they can refer you as well. Persistence and resilience will eventually lead you to the right opportunity. Don't give up!

    I had attended COLLINS aerospace walk in interview. Not an experienced candidate. They collected our resumes and they segregated the Refered resume and non refered resume. They got a chance to write the written test. But sadly we got a compliment. I don't know Sid whether your speaking about your own company. Atleast they can conduct written test all means i may know what standard they actually required, i can assess what quality they required. But i can't get that opportunity also.

    Gender equality and skill based recruitment is the biggest joke of 20th century 😂😂

    • @siddahmed
      @siddahmed  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand where you're coming from, but I believe we're making steady progress toward genuine gender equality and skill-based recruitment. While there’s still a lot of work to do, many companies are actively working to break biases and create a more inclusive work environment. Let's hope the efforts continue to grow stronger, and the joke turns into a reality where everyone gets a fair chance based on their skills and talents!

Regularly challenge your brain with puzzles, reading, or learning new skills. Mindfulness practices like meditation can also help in enhancing focus and memory.
