the GE-90 & GE-9X are the biggest gas-turbo-fans ever the 9X has the same core as the 90 with a larger bypass fan, i heard these have a greater diameter than the B737
Jet Mech: Idk but I even think the whole noise they make isn't always the engine's, it may be the air pushed outside them. So, it is so powerful, you can hear it Km away, that cannot be avoided.
Diego García This engine is pretty quiet. I’ve worked on just about everything from the 747 on down in the commercial aviation world and this plane is pretty darn quiet at takeoff. You hear more whine of the machinery than actual engine rumble!!
It's weird that as a kid I don't remember the buzzsaw sound, and I paid a lot of attention to the engine sound as I always loved this kind of thing. It wasn't until like 30 years later, very recently that I flew a couple of times and noticed it. I thought the engine was damaged or something. Scared the heck out of me!
Kenan De Guzman I guess that all depends on where your at when it’s at takeoff power. From where I was standing it was a bit noisy, but it was the good noise of course!! 😁
Wow this little vortex on the ground is a strange phenomena. I wonder how close one has to go near this engine before starting to feel the air rushing in. They say about two meters is the danger zone in front of a larger airplane turbine.
I can tell you that you can feel the air movement under the cowling when your doing a leak check at idle. I actually saw a guy get his hat pulled off his head and sucked into an engine while doing an idle leak check. I think 2 meters might be a bit conservative at idle. That number definitely increases as you increase power.
So, what exactly causes that intense ROAR at 1:16? I understand that it's the main fan blades moving super fast, but how fast are they actually going? Are they going sub trans-sonic? Trans-sonic? SUPER-sonic??
Mentour Pilot described it similar to holding your hand on the hose of a vacuum cleaner. You feel nothing and go closer and still nothing, you go closer and again a little bit closer and suddenly your sucked into it when entering an area of about two meters around the turbine inlet. But I still wonder if one cannot feel at least a little bit of wind or air rush when going closer.
One day....if time travel is invented/discovered, let’s hope someone brings Mr Rolls & Mr Royce forward in time witness this. They’d better make it before 2016 and the evil orange cretin has taken off , otherwise they’ll conclude that we’ve gone backwards 😎
I shot this with my iPhone. I was on the headset with the Inspector that was running it so I figured why not get some good video!! I shot this standing next to the nose gear.
Assuming you are talking about the underside of the engine and not the vapor at the inlet... It's a breather outlet. These engines are designed to be most efficient and "happiest" at high/cruising altitudes. The oil/water vapor you see only appears at low altitudes and ground level, where there are minor tolerances which aren't evident at their designed high altitudes. The large tornado/vapor you see at the inlet is due to the suction of the intake creating an area of low air pressure, whilst the surrounding air is humid, essentially causing a localised cloud to form.
One day, everyone will miss the sound of these engines. Well, everyone that cares about audible perfection will.
Sad but true......
I dont undeestant why ! They will stop producing?

When teleportation comes you'll be saying kids 30 years ago will never understand the beauty, power, and sound of these engines.
Who still says they want a noiseless plane? They'll regret, every time I think about it I feel bad.
When they sound this good there is no way I want it to be quiet!! 👍🏻

lewis rogan Glad you liked it. It was quite exciting filming that from about 60 or so feet away!! 😁
Love how it winds up like a siren and then that glorious low down metallic growl comes in!
This give me chills.. such a good sound
Great video. Almost beyond belief that mere mortals could create such a thing.
that is so cool, it just demonstrates the sheer power of the engines that they can create clouds in their suction paths its just amazes me
Watching PC-12 engine run ups and thinking those are powerful, I can't imagine these Trent in person
I bet you'd have to stand a good 30 feet or more away from that intake, otherwise you'd get sucked in. Those are some insanely powerful engines.
I absolutely love the buzzsaw! The screaming and hissing drowns it out though.
In real life the buzzsaw is absolutely astonishing. If you hear it close up (70+ ft away) it is so beautifully noticed. Love this engine.
