No 747, but that initial application of thrust sounded incredibly cool! Nice video from the jump seat!
Back when jet engines were made by people who had balls.
Absolutely breathtaking capture of the planes! May I have your permission to feature this in my upcoming project? I'll be sure to credit your video with a link. Thank you!
Hmm, suspect this is fake; someone recorded me on the Autobahn and edited the sound onto this video. ...Still, looks and sound goods.
Cool capture! May I feature this engine start in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. All the best to you!
Sure. That would be fine. Thanks for the link. 👍🏼
Damn, whats the duty cycle on that starter! Looks like you guys did a wet motor, dry motor, and start on the same crank! Least its cold outside but that starter is probably pretty warm!
How about record shutdown too please?🙏🥺
I love engine start vids. But sometimes I have the urge to jump head first into a running jet engine. Like that thing where some people have the urge to steer into incoming traffic. This vid is one of those times...good upload, tho! 👍
1:45 the ops truck just wanted an Airbus blowie.
Yep. Not the sharpest tack in the box behind that wheel!! 🤣😂
Something is emitting under the engine
Yeah its a vortex
@@SoulAmethyst384 I believe it It seems to come out from the drain mast, not the vortex
company i work for casts the hpt blades and vanes for these...cool seeing them in action
Imagine this engine on an average car
I want to hear the shutdown sound too. But you didn't record it...😞

Would love to be inside feeling the airframe move as the parking brakes keep everything in place
Good capture! Is the smoke plume (beginning at 0:35) the remnants of chemical residue being burnt off inside the combustion chamber (before being pulled out of the engine)? During the testing of new Airbus and Boeing engines, what anomalies and hazards are you trained to watch out for? Thanks for the vid!
The smoke is from the remaining preservative in the fuel system. It burns, but it makes a lot of smoke doing it! From the outside we are just looking for fire and leaks. Upstairs you are watching for spikes in fuel flow, low oil pressure, and high egt. We look for the same things in either fleet type.
@@wd757 Thank you for explaining! I appreciate it! 👍🏼

This a delta airlines pilot
0:07 to 0:27 is just 20 seconds from throttle forward to rotation is crazy
and it is SO quiet after the gear retracts, that is insane. like you're just floating up
To be fair, we were empty. This was a training and reposition flight. You are correct though that it is super quiet as soon as the nose gear doors close.
@@wd757 Right. I have to ask, have you ever considered becoming a pilot? I personally couldn't resist being on a plane as much as you are without wanting to fly it myself.
This is amazing 👍
Smoky like a B 52...😄😄
For sure! A little left over preservative sure does make a lot of smoke on startup!! 🤣😂
@@wd757 Great video, greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷
How does the plane could've stopped at that max power engine only with parkingbrake?
man i love that pratt and whitney sound
Bit silly leaving the steps there!
We were doing an engine trim after an engine change. We have to make adjustments on the fuel control after each run-up to part power. No need to keep going back and forth with the ladder. 🤷🏼♂️

Gotta love the JT3D. The Delta MD88 is and remains the only low-bypass powered jet aircraft I've ever flown in!
Its a JT8D
What's meaning that DTO on PFD?
I can’t see it on my screen, but if I had to guess I would say that it stands for “Derated Take-Off”. That’s just my guess. 🤷🏼♂️
RTO. Rejected Take Off. Means if the pilots bring the thrust back to idle the brakes will automatically apply to stop the plane as quickly as possible.
What
Miss that aircraft. Sure miss the jt8d noise over the neighborhood
I agree! I love airplane noise!! 🥰
How many decibels is that?
Yes
What's in front of the engine inside the cabin?
Chairs
I recorded 10 seconds of this so I can use it on a Flight Simulator sound pack I'm creating for the A350 and the Boeing 777. ✈
Delta flies with two captains so one captain can remind the other to take his hands off the thrust levers @ v1😒. This is who gets to fly you all over the world…
It was a training flight….
Wow this little vortex on the ground is a strange phenomena. I wonder how close one has to go near this engine before starting to feel the air rushing in. They say about two meters is the danger zone in front of a larger airplane turbine.
I can tell you that you can feel the air movement under the cowling when your doing a leak check at idle. I actually saw a guy get his hat pulled off his head and sucked into an engine while doing an idle leak check. I think 2 meters might be a bit conservative at idle. That number definitely increases as you increase power.
Ladder not removed before run up? Bad idea.
Don’t worry. I’ve trimmed many JT-8’s and I haven’t lost a patient yet. Don’t be a critique!

Generally anything not directly infront of the receiving end isn't in much danger of being sucked into the engine
I do remember a fella one time that got his hat sucked off his head while standing on the ladder, but I always wear a headset instead of earplugs so my hat is safe! 😁
It would be great if camera man moved a little bit to right to get front view...
I was on the headset talking to the flight deck so I was limited on how far I could move around. 🤷🏼♂️

How did you capture this?
I shot this with my iPhone. I was on the headset with the Inspector that was running it so I figured why not get some good video!! I shot this standing next to the nose gear.
Damn that vortex though...
For some reason, this keeps showing up on my home page. Nice to finally see inside a delta a350 cockpit.
