Nothing in the world.makes a majestic sound like that, either. I still remember my first overseas flight. It was from LAX to the old Kai Tak airport on an L1011 and it also had Rolls Royce engines. I think the airline was Delta.
@@largol33t1 L1011s used the Rolls Royce RB211. Such a legendary engine. The buzz they groan is incredible. I have a main fan blade next to my fire place. Fun fact: The RB211 is still used on the B747, B757, and even the B767. Fun fact 2: The RB211 was so powerful for the narrow-body 757, that United Airlines had to limit their thrust maximum by about 20%.

My first time flying was with an A350. I remember how impressive it was when they spooled up at 5:46 But when I thought that was all they had, they just went 5:54 and I got pushed into my seat. Most amazing experiance.
@@cryptofierce7431 If one engine does not respond they risk going off the runway to the side if the other one is at full power. The control surfaces don't help counteracting the asymmetry before the aeroplane picked up speed. So they do it in steps so they can't get too much asymmetry.
It's hilarious that your description reminds me of my first flight from Orange County in an A319. That tiny thing is like a rocket. The pilot backed up to the very edge because the runway was too short. He held the brakes and opened the throttle to full then let it RIP. I couldn't believe how quickly it got to rotation speed and when it left the ground, my stomach was all over the place. Happy to see I'm not the only big kid here . Sounds like you had a great taxi & takeoff ( no crying babies or disruptive people) just awesome engines. 🛫🥰
They would make it through, but the Chinese government has essentially killed Hong Kong as a world city. A lot less people would feel safe going there, myself included. The Chinese government has also wanted Cathay Pacific to get bought out by a Chinese airline for a while and is working towards that.
@@EdmontonRails HK hasn't been a "world city" for a long time, it's no longer a gateway to Asia, mainland Chinese cities surpassed it in size and development long ago, Dubai has become a greater international hub and the concept of an international hub will die off with the ever increasing flight durations (Perth to London for example).
What’s interesting is that most of the jet noise is directed backwards with exhaust so you can’t hear most of noise from inside the cabin unlike a prop which emits noise in all directions and not just backwards. Thus you hear the prop noise more from inside the cabin. That’s why props sound louder from the inside than jets even though jets are louder overall.
When you are on the main runway (hilarious seeing the planes behind you lined up for their slot) and you think “Come on!” Then the engines start and the speed picks up - it happens rather fast from there. Big up to pilots and cabin staff.
It's fascinating that all of the engines are still built at their "home" in Darby, UK. They still practice Old World techniques, assembling them almost entirely by hand. And it's almost a bit of a family business. Don't be too surprised if some of the engineers who built the engines on your plane are father and son.
Rolls Royce engines are great. Actually the Neo generation by Airbus is excellent. On March 2020 I took an A321 Neo, Macau Air, and had an pretty good impression
I find it fascinating that the engines are all built by hand. Rolls-Royce's aviation division is fascinating. It's still mostly what is sometimes called a mom-and-pop workforce. Like professions that have been done for centuries, the father trains his children to take over when he retires or dies. And engines are all carefully bolted and welded together by hand in small teams of 2-4 people. The fan blades are actually cooked in a special oven that makes them "puff up" so they're actually much stronger before going into the oven! It's a very tightly guarded secret and very few know how it is done.
I always preferred the quality and experience flying a Boeing aircraft, but after recently flying on an A350-900 for a long haul flight for the first time, I was amazed with what Airbus has created and thus became my new aircraft to fly in. The 777x is about to have some real competition imo.
That's awesome! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
It is amazing how short time does it take to reach airplane several thousand feet in matter of seconds and every thing looks so tiny below on ground in seconds.
It's also absolutely FRIGHTENING when you have to enter Switzerland from Germany. Lufthansa stuck me on a tiny Avro jet. The pilots took the plane very close to the airport and actually pointed the nose DOWN for the last three minutes of the flight! I could see the horizon tilting so severely that for a second, I was wondering WTF they were doing... Learned much later that because of the Swiss Alps, they severely affect wind patterns and this will instantly change how a pilot approaches the airport. He/she might have to completely change the final approach every minute. Landing in Zurich is not for novice pilots or fools who have JUST passed their flight exam!
I have never flown on the A350 yet, even though i live in SG, and SIA has the A350, but from this video, I WILL DEFINITELY LOVE THE TAKEOFF, thank you for this video
