I was a HUGE Raider fan before I grew up, I saw that play when he was pulled down from behind, I believe it was MNF. Totally Agreed, his body was never the same, he was almost unstoppable until that play....he was my favorite.
I was always mad at Howie for retiring in his prime....but now with all we know about CTE he was a head of his time. He knew he could make good money off the field and took it. Now that I am 50 years old myself I get it lol. I retired early too! My knees and back have never been happier.

Between him and Lebron but i’d give the edge to Bo. He proved he could play multiple professional sports at a HOF level. (Not that Lebron couldn’t have been a NFL player, he was the #1 football player in Ohio his Jr year)
I watched Bo’s last football game on TV. Against the Bengals. He was absolutely crushing them, averaging 13 yards/carry. It was so entertaining. Then he got hurt. When it became permanent, I was soooooooo bummed. There’ll probably never be another running back like that, ever.

I played golf with Griffey, Jr in 2015 at Carnoustie in Scotland. I mentioned I saw the monumental H.R. he hit in the Kingdome in August of 1997. Junior said he didn't remember any of his home runs, but had vivid memories of massive home runs Bo hit.
My favorite part of this is the look in Chris’ eyes as his dad was talking. That is a man that respects his father. It’s a such a blessing. My father passed away when I was 30 and he was at his best when I lost him. I remember looking at my father in his best moments with that same admiration.

Bo made a run that day where his feet were in bounds & his entire body was out of bounds like a panther or something. And yes the whole stadium gasped. Correct me if I'm wrong, Bo only rushed for over 100 yards twice in his whole career, my girl took me to Fenway Park to see Bo with Chisox, his calves and legs were huge, he whiffed and snapped the bat in two over his thigh.
@kevinwalsh4652 Marcus and Bo were a 2 headed monster especially during the 1989 and 1990 seasons. The Raiders rushing attack would just wear down opponents. The Raiders had a fullback that would block for both of them and dude was a sledge hammer and ran the ball himself occasionally. In the 1990 season I saw Bo play his first game in the NFL against the San Diego Chargers in the second half alone he demolished their defense after Marcus Allen Carved them up in the first half.
I agree what if?, but I also believe Bo's running style would have caught up to him. 31 to 32 years of age he would have started fading as a back. This was the NFL not Auburn.
I was in Auburn working out at Bill Kazmaier’s gym. The football team’s strength coach was there. A guy asked him if Bo worked out with the team. He said no. He was given a pass after he walked into their weight room and benched 400 pounds.
Saw Bo Jackson play for the Memphis Chicks back in the day. Everyone was there to see Bo. Three strikeouts later people were starting to leave. On the 4th at bat Bo hit the ball out of the stadium over the five story buildings at the edge of the stadium. Just crushed it. I still have that Bo Jackson autographed Memphis Chicks card.
Thanks for the show highlighting one of my favorite players. As an RN, hearing he's suffering from hiccups, it is serious..and results in so many negative side effects..inability to sleep..eat properly, have a partner be willing to sleep with you..appetite..and can result in ending one's life if it's so life-altering. It happened to a doctor I worked with,a complication of shoulder surgery local anesthetic . It basically ended his marriage. So Bo needs all the support he can get, for sure..thanks for letting us know
I'm waiting to see how this go as I have the hicuups and have had them for almost 2 yrs now. And I have tried everything. Well not the porcupine but almost everything else.
I remember never really caring about football until my 6th grade year and when my dad was watching a KC game I got to see what Bo Jackson could do. That was it. For a year I was a Raider's fan. KC has Okoye back then and Okoye was a blue collar player for a blue collar state. He was more heart, more determination, and more pure beef than the 4 guys trying to tackle him on every play. I made bets with my dad on who would win those KC vs. LA games and I always ended up mowing the lawn. That's how I became a Chiefs fan. Bo was by far the greatest athlete of the last 100 years and a freak injury stole him from us. Okoye was another shining star that we just didn't get to see long enough. Those guys were amazing talents and a rare breed.
About 20 years ago I seen Bo Jackson training at a health club in suburban Chicago, and let me tell you something, I never seen a build on a man like his! He has the lower body of a MINOTAUR, huge defined legs, with a lean fit upper body! Real specimen of a man💪
Got to meet Chris Long after a St. Louis Rams game and got his autograph. He was very, very nice and seemed to genuinely appreciate when I complimented him on his 3 sacks that day. It's obvious he came from a good family.
I had a hockey hall of famer 25 years ago tell me a story about Bo throwing a guy out at home from the warning track and the stadium go quiet. Not the KC/Seattle one but in Toronto against the Royals. When a hall of famer in a different sport gets that look on their face telling a story about a different athlete in a different sport you pay attention.
No one on his level has shown up in the last 30 years, that tells you something. The only guy I have on Bo's tier is Wilt Chamberlain, those two are barely human

I saw most of Bo's games at the LA coliseum, a man amongst boys. Great time to be a Raider fan, when the fights in the stands were so good the players would turn to watch, and Howie forbid his family from attending games at the Coliseum.
Bo being a Raider was a tough and confusing time as a Chiefs and Royals fan. The Raiders were an actual rival then, and Bo [along with G.Brett's twilight years] had the Royals relevant in a way they wouldn't be again for decades. So it was pure love for Bo the Royal and negotiating something somehow less than unrelenting hate for the Raiders while he was there.
Yeah, I was a Chiefs fan from the AFL days and that rivalry between them and the Raiders was in-TENSE!!! But I had watched so many Chiefs vs. Raiders games, I knew all of Oakland's players too. As an Auburn, ergo Bo Jackson SuperFan, I didn't have as much trouble as I thought I would when Bo started suiting up in the silver & black. It can hardly be imagined that when baseball season was over, MARCUS FREAKIN' ALLEN would take off his helmet and go sit on the bench cuz Bo was there now---amazing!
I was that age, grade school, jr high, h.s., in his prime. No internet. "Bo knows"....but it was not built on social media popularity, it was legitimate athletic ability that blew people's minds. At some point it seemed logical that he could take up a sport completely new to him, give him 6-12 months and he'll prove, not promote himself, prove to be the best in the world at it.
i was in Royals Stadium and Bo came out to left field, he just signed with the Raiders, they had stop the game cause footballs were coming out to the field, a lot of fun, Bo Knows!
anyone who has had the honor of meeting an old school, top tier defensive end has had the honor of meeting a true hard man. listening to howie long speak and looking at his body and his hands, you know you are looking at the real deal. listening to this apex gladiator talk so glowingly about another shows his humility. i was fortunate enough to work as a chef at a hotel (the hilton garden inn in blacksburg, va) partly owned by the great bruce smith and talk about a low key, down to earth guy . . .! i like listening to these old school guys talk about back in the day, it's like you're hearing about the time of myth.
3:20 I totally agree. I watched it live and me and my bros were like, "Boz got trucked!" (before "trucked" was even a term btw) Upon rewatching it though, it was a very even contest and Bo came out on top. I doubt anyone could have stopped Bo in that situation.
Bo Jackson will always be a GOD among athletes. Say what you will, but he is a true GOAT. People are still talking about him and he only played for like 4 years. Just imagine had he played a full career. Not only was he a great athlete, he was a good person.
I've seen him make some of the quickest cuts in the backfield i've ever seen. And was a tall RB who didn't take direct hits to his upperbody & that's rare
Bo was a combination of Earl Campbell and prime OJ, He coulf absorb a clean shot and continue running., he could rum over you or he would see an opening and be gonr. We will never see another like him.
Howie, you're a personal hero to me. I only met you once in passing, I was with Lester and no, I don't remember where. Anyway, I raised my grandson to be a Raiders fan. He got a plaque from Lester when I introduced them. The plaque had three trading cards, Lester, Alzado and you. I'd pay for an autograph on your card if I can afford it ( my savings got blown when our daughter died and left her 8 1/2 month old son with us) but no worries. Anyway, if you have an office address or a P.O box or something I'll send it to you. Fun fact, I played DE in HS and college and taught my grandson by watching endless hours of tape on you and Lyle. My son had the Hiccups for 3 months and lost about 25 lbs off a 170 lean body. It sucked big time for him. He went to the Hospital twice for treatment before it passed. 😟
Bo Jackson should be in the NFL HoF as an honorable member, just because of how impactful he was. He was like a Paul Bunyan-like mystique about him where everyone has some kind of folk-lore like story about him. Had he not gotten hurt, surely he would have had the numbers to be there. And nobody would be mad about him being in there. Just such a gifted naturally talented athlete, ahead of his time and could play in every era.
And that's in the days when everybody could tackle. Dude could hit you hard and no penalty is. And the rules didn't favor the office so heavily. So their way less defensive restrictions. We got very lucky to be living in a time to watch the real football days
I could listen to eyewitness accounts of Bo Jackson any time. The guy was a monster who simply ran over people, and his acceleration was so surprising, given his size. A once in a generation athlete.
If Bo Jackson just focused on football and didn't play baseball or sustain that hip injury. He could have gone down as the greatest running back ever. I've said that for years. Bo had that kind of freakish Jim Brown talent with sprinter speed.

In his prime he never rushed for 1,000 yard in a season. Only broke 700 once. Look at Walter Payton’s stats and you’ll begin to see how relatively average Bo was. Less than 2,800 CAREER rushing yards and people think the dude walked on water. Great athlete, but then again most everyone is in the NFL.

Herschel had more yards and Carrie's than Bo ,but Bo average a full yard more per carry, so I would take Bo over Herschel. It all depends on what you are trying to do. Mike Alstot might be better at short yardage for example.
I'm an old man now, 86 and counting, and I've followed football all my life (played through college). I've seen exactly 4 guys who could run over, around or through you and didn't care which...but might prefer through, just to spoil your day. Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Bo and Barry Sanders. As a former fullback, I LOVED watching those guys, and that's not to cast aspersions on anybody else like Payton or especially Sayers, but those 4 were the SH*T!!

Being a lifelong War Eagle I saw Herschel Walker play the year they won the National Championship. He was a man among boys. But when I saw Bo his freshman year it was awe inspiring. Herschel would run over everyone and it took a minimum of 2 guys to tackle him. Bo was the same way except he could outrun EVERYONE on the field Herschel couldn’t.

Got to meet Chris Long after a St. Louis Rams game and got his autograph. He was very, very nice and seemed to genuinely appreciate when I complimented him on his 3 sacks that day. It's obvious he came from a good family.

I had a hockey hall of famer 25 years ago tell me a story about Bo throwing a guy out at home from the warning track and the stadium go quiet. Not the KC/Seattle one but in Toronto against the Royals. When a hall of famer in a different sport gets that look on their face telling a story about a different athlete in a different sport you pay attention.
No one on his level has shown up in the last 30 years, that tells you something. The only guy I have on Bo's tier is Wilt Chamberlain, those two are barely human

I saw Bo play for KC two games VS the Mariners. Struck out 4 times the first game, two home runs the second. Swung for the fence every time.
Even when he struck out he put on a show,he'd break the bat,either over his helmet or thigh. And sometimes just break it like a stick.
I saw most of Bo's games at the LA coliseum, a man amongst boys. Great time to be a Raider fan, when the fights in the stands were so good the players would turn to watch, and Howie forbid his family from attending games at the Coliseum.
Bo being a Raider was a tough and confusing time as a Chiefs and Royals fan. The Raiders were an actual rival then, and Bo [along with G.Brett's twilight years] had the Royals relevant in a way they wouldn't be again for decades. So it was pure love for Bo the Royal and negotiating something somehow less than unrelenting hate for the Raiders while he was there.
Yeah, I was a Chiefs fan from the AFL days and that rivalry between them and the Raiders was in-TENSE!!! But I had watched so many Chiefs vs. Raiders games, I knew all of Oakland's players too. As an Auburn, ergo Bo Jackson SuperFan, I didn't have as much trouble as I thought I would when Bo started suiting up in the silver & black. It can hardly be imagined that when baseball season was over, MARCUS FREAKIN' ALLEN would take off his helmet and go sit on the bench cuz Bo was there now---amazing!

I was that age, grade school, jr high, h.s., in his prime. No internet. "Bo knows"....but it was not built on social media popularity, it was legitimate athletic ability that blew people's minds. At some point it seemed logical that he could take up a sport completely new to him, give him 6-12 months and he'll prove, not promote himself, prove to be the best in the world at it.

anyone who has had the honor of meeting an old school, top tier defensive end has had the honor of meeting a true hard man. listening to howie long speak and looking at his body and his hands, you know you are looking at the real deal. listening to this apex gladiator talk so glowingly about another shows his humility. i was fortunate enough to work as a chef at a hotel (the hilton garden inn in blacksburg, va) partly owned by the great bruce smith and talk about a low key, down to earth guy . . .! i like listening to these old school guys talk about back in the day, it's like you're hearing about the time of myth.
3:20 I totally agree. I watched it live and me and my bros were like, "Boz got trucked!" (before "trucked" was even a term btw) Upon rewatching it though, it was a very even contest and Bo came out on top. I doubt anyone could have stopped Bo in that situation.
Bo Jackson will always be a GOD among athletes. Say what you will, but he is a true GOAT. People are still talking about him and he only played for like 4 years. Just imagine had he played a full career. Not only was he a great athlete, he was a good person.

Howie, you're a personal hero to me. I only met you once in passing, I was with Lester and no, I don't remember where. Anyway, I raised my grandson to be a Raiders fan. He got a plaque from Lester when I introduced them. The plaque had three trading cards, Lester, Alzado and you. I'd pay for an autograph on your card if I can afford it ( my savings got blown when our daughter died and left her 8 1/2 month old son with us) but no worries. Anyway, if you have an office address or a P.O box or something I'll send it to you. Fun fact, I played DE in HS and college and taught my grandson by watching endless hours of tape on you and Lyle. I remember watching that Bo/Boz game. That was crazy. I also was watching when Bo got his career ending injury. It really didn't look that serious. It was such a a shame that his career ended so soon. He was fun to watch.
I grew up in Chicago and was blessed with Payton and MJ. But as a complete athlete I can't think of another but Bo. That man was just phenomenal 🙌
He was a great football player, amazing really. But that catch and run up the outfield wall at Camden was otherworldly.
My son had the Hiccups for 3 months and lost about 25 lbs off a 170 lean body. It sucked big time for him. He went to the Hospital twice for treatment before it passed. 😟

Bo Jackson should be in the NFL HoF as an honorable member, just because of how impactful he was. He was like a Paul Bunyan-like mystique about him where everyone has some kind of folk-lore like story about him. Had he not gotten hurt, surely he would have had the numbers to be there. And nobody would be mad about him being in there. Just such a gifted naturally talented athlete, ahead of his time and could play in every era.
And that's in the days when everybody could tackle. Dude could hit you hard and no penalty is. And the rules didn't favor the office so heavily. So their way less defensive restrictions. We got very lucky to be living in a time to watch the real football days

In his prime he never rushed for 1,000 yard in a season. Only broke 700 once. Look at Walter Payton’s stats and you’ll begin to see how relatively average Bo was. Less than 2,800 CAREER rushing yards and people think the dude walked on water. Great athlete, but then again most everyone is in the NFL.
@@John_Hoover there is a difference between the greatest back when healthy verses who puts up the most yards. Herschel had more yards and Carrie's than Bo ,but Bo average a full yard more per carry, so I would take Bo over Herschel. It all depends on what you are trying to do. Mike Alstot might be better at short yardage for example.
I'm an old man now, 86 and counting, and I've followed football all my life (played through college). I've seen exactly 4 guys who could run over, around or through you and didn't care which...but might prefer through, just to spoil your day. Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Bo and Barry Sanders. As a former fullback, I LOVED watching those guys, and that's not to cast aspersions on anybody else like Payton or especially Sayers, but those 4 were the SH*T!!

Being a lifelong War Eagle I saw Herschel Walker play the year they won the National Championship. He was a man among boys. But when I saw Bo his freshman year it was awe inspiring. Herschel would run over everyone and it took a minimum of 2 guys to tackle him. Bo was the same way except he could outrun EVERYONE on the field Herschel couldn’t.
