For all of Deion's swagger and bragging, I like that when it comes to his contemporaries he doesn't bs. He admits what he could or couldn't and who was as good or better. Despite his media shenanigans, that's someone that respects the game and those who are in it. He didn't have to defer, he could've done his schtick but he respected the game and those players too much to put on that act. That's depth. They BOTH played pro baseball and football and were/are considered at the top of the list for their positions. He could've went the competitive response but he has to be a humble and good man to admit that even in that head to head with Bo, Bo was the better athlete. That's class.

Neither Bo, Deion, nor Jordan come even remotely close to being the greatest athletes. The greatest athlete, in my opinion, is rock climber Alex Honnold. You see, in football and baseball, both Deion and Bo are allowed to make mistakes - they can strike out. They can drop a bal. In basketball, Jordan is allowed to make mistakes - miss a shot, miss a free throw, get the ball stolen away from him. In Alex Honnold's sport, free climbing, mistakes ARE NOT ALLOWED. Even the smallest of mistakes are not allowed. If Alex Honnold makes the smallest mistake, HE DIES. Plain and simple. END OF DISCUSSION.

As a kid I remember during black history month having to a project on an influential black American. Growing up playing baseball of course I picked Jackie Robinson. I already knew he was a great ball player but what absolutely blew my mind was when I learned he lettered in 4 different sports at UCLA. He has to be one of the greatest all around athletes in history.
There’s actually a really interesting book that attempts to rank the greatest all around athletes. I believe they ranked Jim Brown as number 1 since not only was he one of the all time greats in football but also was a legendary Lacrosse player as well. Pretty sure Jackie Robinson is top 5 in the book’s rankings. I need to try to find that book because now I’m curious where Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders are listed.

He only played baseball one year at MSU and it was only to get leverage when negotiating an NFL contract. But then he played so well he had a chance to go #1 in MLB's draft. After he did some math and realized he would make way more money in his life playing baseball, he went with the sport that was an afterthought.
Tigers manager Sparky Anderson predicted he was the next Mickey Mantle because of his freakish speed and freakish power. Although he won MVP in 1989, injuries stopped that from happening; on the plus side, injuries caused him to have the greatest game winning HR in MLB history. A beast.

Jim Brown would have to be in this conversation. He lettered in four sports at Syracuse. In addition to football he played lacrosse and basketball, and ran track. He is in the Lacrosse Hall of Fame and is considered by many to be the greatest player in the history of the game. He played football in an era before strength conditioning became the norm. It's hard to imagine what he would've looked like with weight training. Not only was he the RB at Syracuse, but also the placekicker. In some of their games he scored every point through touchdowns, field goals, and extra points. In track he was a decathlete. He finished 5th in the 1956 US Olympic trials at age 20, despite inexperience and the fact that he didn't participate in track full-time. Decathlon was not an event in college track. Brown typically competed in the javelin, discus, and high jump. Sometimes he competed in lacrosse and track on the same day. In baseball he pitched two no-hitters in high school and was offered a minor league contract by the Yankees. He didn't play baseball at Syracuse because he was already playing lacrosse and running track.
