After reading about his upbring I have the most highest respect for him. It was like my upbringing. He's the reason that I like the Raiders especially when he was playing. I can go back and watch old Raider games. He was really cool and still is and he did a good job raising his sons along with his wife . Good job Howie!
Thank you for honoring this great man. The world would be a better place if there were more excellent American men like Howie Long. Be safe. Be well. 🇺🇸🏈❤️💃🏻
I’m a HUGE RAIDER FAN.! Howie was the best DE we ever had, I remember him coming around the end with his famous hook move beating the OT.! I love Long he’s won of my favorite player”s ever.!! RRRAAAIIIDDDEEERRRRSSS.!! ☠️
I think Howie Long retired at the perfect time. After the 93 season the Raiders were a dysfunctional mess until John Gruden arrived in 98. I remember Howie Long saying in an interview shortly after he retired that "he didn't want to walk funny". I think that was in relation to how many surgeries he probably went through.

I grew up being a fan of the NY Giants but this great man is a tremendous icon in football and I respect his career and way of life, my respects to him and his children as well as his family, the great
Howie and his wife Diane were customers at the bank I worked at, they were so nice when they came in. Never showing any arrogance, their two boys who came in with Diane were well behaved. I really enjoyed waiting on them.
Howie Long is a Great Man off the field, but when He’s on the playing field He’s definitely a force to be reckoned with, He puts His eyes on the ball and Bam! Bam! He wants the ball too. One of a kind Football Player, always for the Team. They don’t make Them like that anymore, Howie definitely deserves His Enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And He was a Raider His entire Football Career, Go Raiders!
Al Davis Offered Howie to come back & Play 🏈After his HOF induction! Al said Give Me 16 Downs a Game? You'll be the first HO-Famer to ever come back & Play 🏈 After thinking about it for a Minute! Howie said, You're "Nuts!"
Howie Long is and always has been a beast. Schoolmates at the Bunker Hill Elementary school and later at the Clarence R. Edwards Junior High School, he was a gentle giant but one of the biggest dudes in town. Rough and tough neighborhood of Charlestown gave him the good and bad of society and he chose another path. Proud Townie 🍀
Is he my favorite Raider, if not who is?....Love Howie. I was thinking, I started watching the Raiders in 1980 until...today and forever, Howie, Plunket, Allen, Christensen (I can go on forever on the L.A Raiders players), who is my favorite Raider? I'll go Howie,. so many to choose from. I'll always love the L.A. Raiders.
He could have played longer but decided to hang it up before the game forced him out. He will always be my favorite DE, no matter where Crosby finishes.
Howie was one of the greats. You asked if he made a mistake retiring when he did. He made the right choice. He watched his friend Lyle die so young. He also said when he retired it was taking him close to an hour to get out of bed in the morning. I've forgotten how many surgeries he's had to endure post retirement. I do know the last one he recently had to endure was to make his arms and shoulders the same length on both sides, so I'd say he was right.
Yes he definitely could’ve played, but I don’t have any issues with him retiring. He retired young enough that he was there for his children and wife. Great life and one of the better DT in football. If not for injuries he would’ve gotten over 100 sacks but his career was solid nonetheless.
HOWIE LONG STOOD FOR EVERYTHING IT MENT TO BE A RAIDER!!!!!! ONCE A RAIDER ALWAYS A RAIDER👊👊🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏴☠️🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉🏉
The fact that Howie played between the tackles and not as D End and got 91.5 sacks is astounding! As a lifelong Raider fan (52 years now!) he is my favorite Raider and certainly one of the league's greatest legends.
There is a gross inaccuracy in this presentation. Howie played Pop Warner football as a 10 year old. He was a guard and defensive tackle, playing on the 12 and under team. As a 9 year old, he pushed around a lot of 12 year olds on practice. I have a picture from the Charlestown Patriot with both of us in uniform. The atmosphere for school as Howie was transitioning to teenage years was horrific. Busing had come to Boston, and the schools were war zones. Sending him to Milford was the best move, but it was up to Howie, and he never looked back.
Having the potential to play longer doesn’t make it the right thing to do. Injuries stack up and years after you quit those injuries will haunt you. There are plenty of limping, arthritic old men who never played pro or even college who suffer daily from old sports injuries! Long seems like an intelligent man who probably made the correct decision. Unlike his former Raiders teammate Lyle Alzado (who was a personal friend of mine) who lost his life very early due to using PEDs to play professionally!
Howie could have played a couple more years and been a productive player.Vut l feel he made the right decision.Playing professional football is dangerous and since he already knew what he wanted to do and has been successful and has a great life.Long used his intelligence to maximize his time away from the sport. He seems like a smart disciplined guy who has lived a great life.Congragulations Howie for a life well lived.
Lyle AL -Zay- Doh is how you pronounce his name. I am wondering if Lyle introduced Howie to steroids. I am not implying he took steroids, it's just that Lyle is infamous for dying from steroid use and being very honest about it. Lyle showed great courage discussing his steroid use and trying to stop those who might have the same interest. Long gaining 40 lbs over one summer in college is almost unbelievable. Long was a menace to all he played against. He is a Hall of Famer, but his long-lasting second career is just as impressive. Five years is a long time in national sports broadcasting. How long has Howie been on air ? I'm guessing 30+ years. Of course, he made the right decision. He knew much like Travis Kelcie that he had a second career in entertainment. Playing his pro ball in Los Angles, he made a lot of contacts. At 6ft 4 280 lbs with no rolls of fat, there was a place for him. He started in movies but got onto being a NFL studio host. As I mentioned above, his long tenure and his down to earth way of explaining football will no doubt get him into a second Hall of Fame. This time, it may be a star on Hollywood Boulevard.
I’m interested to know if Syracuse ever recruited Howie,Only because Syracuse was known to recruit the New England states Heavily;Ie Floyd Little and many others !
But you wonder what happens if Rozelle does not stop the Raiders from Trading Howie to the Bears and then using that pick to the Colts to Draft John Elway. The Raiders won a Super Bowl in 1983 with Plunkett, how many more could they have won with Marcus Allen and Elway. Howie was great, but Greg Townsend had better stats. Then again the Raiders could have Drafted Dan Marino.
Of course he could've have played longer and continued to be consistent at his designated position. But he had the good sense to leave the game at the top of his career. To pursue other options, this was a sound decision in my opinion.
Long is quoted as saying, after the '84 game against the Bears, that he was NEVER so beat-up. That he almost needed help, afterwards, to his motorcar. During the tape of that contest, one can see him tearing up...after Jimbo Covent 'destroyed ' him for the umpteenth time. BTW, this was the one when Ray Guy refused to enter & play QB.
I met when a Howie's x teammates Dave Browning defensive van he played for the raiders when how he did Good kind of got screwed over by Lyle alzado but he ended up with a great career in spite he lives out of Spokane using outstanding player though Dave stop by my house one time looking for an old high school friend is when I open the door at night this huge man was standing there looking at me asking about his friend and I say always not here right now but come on in we'll have a beer then I realized who he was great guy great player just like Howie
From about 1985 If he wasn't injured he had to be double or treble teamed on every play, or he would just break up the offensive backfield run or pass.

I grew up in KC, and we hated the Raiders. But on the sneak tip, I loved those old Raiders team -- Especially Howie and Lyle!
After reading about his upbring I have the most highest respect for him. It was like my upbringing. He's the reason that I like the Raiders especially when he was playing. Definitely one of the greatest Raiders! Much love and God bless!🙏🏽
Howie was a beast. Great football player. Smart man too. He has done very well. I think he could have done more movies if he wanted.
Long was a great player for the Raiders and a great father, husband and all around gentleman
Thank you for honoring this great
man. The world would be a better place if there were more excellent
American men like Howie Long.
Be safe. Be well. 🇺🇸🏈❤️💃🏻

RRRAAAIIIDDDEEERRRRSSS.!! ☠️
Howie Long is my favorite player, ONE OF THE BEST
He did the right thing. Only the classy players go out with something left. The man can do whatever he wants!
Great, great player - underrated now by some it seems. At his peak in the mid 1980’s he was the best all round defensive lineman in the NFL by a mile.
Loving this Praying Always GO Raiders and Thank you All GO Raiders I believe Raiders Raiders Raiders

Howie's "A football life" is a great story
He did it right, on and off the field! My favorite raider of all time

I always admired and respected Mr. Long. He was such a class act!
The most overrated does not belong in the Hall of Fame. Bubba Baker belongs in the Hall of Fame not this guy.
Howie Long would have been great at whatever endeavor field he would have chosen to participate in! Quality man indeed!
He did a great move by retiring. He became a sports caster like John Madden, they both excelled at their job🏈
My favorite part of the video are the shots of Howie and his sons. He looks like a proud daddy! ❤🇺🇸
Never a Raiders fan, however in high school I modeled my intensity after Long. He was great
❤ Howie. Baby
H Long #75 was absolutely 💯 one of my favorites in Raiders history
Hotie was my second greatest player behind snake been a BIG FAN SINCE 1962
I will die loveing my RAIDERS BABY
Howie and his wife Diane were customers at the bank I worked at, they were so nice when they came in. Never showing any arrogance, their two boys who came in with Diane were well behaved. I really enjoyed waiting on them.
I’m a huge fan of this man.

Howie was the one and only Raider I liked, me being a Steelers fan...
Wow, that is very cool being a Steelers fan. Respect 💯
He's the biggest reason I still watch pro football.
Is he my favorite Raider, if not who is?....Love Howie. Very Good, and a Huge Thank you, for Highlighting one of my All time Favorite Players. Those were the Glory years for the Raiders, So Cool..
A true raider JUST WIN BABY
He's a Raider for life.
Howie is a solid Guy. God bless him. 🇺🇸
Howie retired at right time. He is still healthy enough to continue doing other things.
Howie is a Great Raider! And a Great Man.
Don't like his Woke kids. But, Howie is Solid
Howie is my favorite football player #75
He was one of the best there was 💪💪 he had a style of his own how old is in every play 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪

The only Oakland Raiders jersey I own #75 LONG.
Lol, me too
love HOWIE LONG
Absolutely no doubt about it
Howie was the forerunner to Reggie White. I remember Howie's dominance before Reggie came on the scene.
Excellent

HOWARD MATTHEW MOSES LONG,is a true success story.
As a long time Raidar fan I can say unequivocally that Howie was my favorite player, followed by Lyle Alzado. Those were the good old days.
Howie could still play today.
CLASS ACT!!
Al-ZAY-do. Lyle Al-ZAY- do. (Alzado). The weirdest part is I didn't hear about him sacking Terry even once! He's a good man.
AL ZAY DOUGH
Good move !
He made the right decision , he has been a great successful man.
One of my All Time Favorites!! Howie Long retired at the Right Time: Walked Away rather than Limped Away!!
Must and all the respect for the MAN
Long,Madden,Blentikoff,snake,Tatum,
Ottis,Davidson, the list goes on greats
Good o’ bam bam ☠️💀☠️🏴☠️
Please do a Terry McDaniel video.

I love Howie Long. Hell no he shouldn't have retired, it would have postponed his commentary career, but he could have played another 5 years.
Juiced just like 99.9% of NFL
3rd. Greatest. Defensive. Lineman. I. Ever. Saw
Was Howie Long the best defensive end to ever play for the Raiders?
The best in the game😊😊😊
The fact that Howie played between the tackles and not as D End and got 91.5 sacks is astounding! As a lifelong Raider fan (52 years now!) he is my favorite Raider and certainly one of the league's greatest legends.
Gregg Townsend is the Raiders all-time sack leader because of Howie Long
His name…. “Howie Long” … what a fucking name!
Yes he made the right decision by retiring when he did. He prioritized with his family first and his health.

What isn't said is that Howie Long singlehandedly lost an AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills
Too bad Lyle couldn't be inducted too, there right defensive end 1:48
Lyle got to the back ,the same way Howie got there ,and that's where they met, a lot!
I abosolutely Love Lyle A... but the starter and all time sack leader is Greg Townsend. GT would need to go before LA
Sure, was a Long Story.

He almost exclusively played on the interior of the line.

Howie was awsome but Bill Romanowski was a beast and he belongs in the hall of fame
Romanoski has too many bridges he burned! Unfortunately
Roids!
Oh yeah oh yeah howie long did the right decision
Did he play DE or DT
Good information. But the pacing and poor pronunciation sounds a lot like A.I.
GREAT FUKNG VIDEO. THANK YOU FOR THIS.
I'll bet he would have made a great Jack Reacher
You don't choose football, football chooses you
Did Howie ever make a wrong decision?
Joe Bird killed himself with a shotgun not a pistol
It's Al zay dough
I got to three minutes and realized that the narrator is simply trying way too hard. Not watching the rest.
Computer generated I’m guessing
he retired because he wanted to spend more time with his family. no amount of money could change his mind.
