I''ve been watching the NBA since 1966 and I'd take the 80s over the 90s any day. The 90s were almost exclusively about Jordan and the Bulls. David Stern is the one that changed the rules. Not Adam Silver.

    • @fredlin6303
      @fredlin6303 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Responsibility does not solely rest with Silver; it also lies with the players and the metrics. NBAPA is a partner of the NBA, and they dictate how the game is played. The marketing numbers said fans were more attracted to scoring than the 'Bad Boys' defense. Sports science experts advised management on the importance of rest days for optimal performance. The scoring metrics told coaches that shooting 3s would be better than 2s.The combination of all these factors made the game the way it is.

    • @leomarlonestrada5954
      @leomarlonestrada5954 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@fredlin6303 Meaning. The game was changed from being a competition to being entertainment.
      During the 80's and 90's and early 2000's, games were were tougher, more defense oriented, but the scoring was decent.
      Also, more players played 82 games regular season.
      With the advancement of of sports medicine, players today play less games and rest more.
      How many players in recent years played an 82 game regular season?
      GOAT Jordan did it 9 times in a 15 season career including in his last season in 2003.
      Jordan......The GOAT.....Playing 82 Games?
      Why? Because he is the most competitive mother!!!!!
      The game was made SOFT.
      Now Players Are Soft.
      The NBA is no longer a competitive league. It is now more for "entertainment" and gambling.
      The NBA is Now like the WWE (except for gambling).
      The Last Great Champion Team is the 2014 Spurs.
      That Team was the last of the Old School and The Beginning Of The Current Style.
      The NBA is boring now and the best players are Europeans.
      Jokic, Doncic and Now Wemby will be ruling in the next 15 years.
      American players became too lazy and decadent.

      It's not necessarily toughness as such. You have to work for your points in Europe. You had to hustle to score in the NBA in the 1990s. Rodman won games on defense alone. Or earlier. Wilt was better than Russell. Russell and the Celtics won all those championships because of game plan. The thing is, nobody can stop a player like Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, etc. one on one. You have to use smarts. Like the Bulls and Rodman against Shaq.

    Because back then there weren't - after all - such attractions off the court as there are now. Back then only basketball mattered. There wasn't as much money. People go crazy when they get money, they prefer off-court glamour, red carpets, etc. Today the NBA is a show in RS, lack of commitment, lack of defense, ASG is a joke! Serious play only begins in PO. Once the players of opposing teams were enemies, today they are friends patting each other on the butts and giving high fives after matches. Zero aggression, balls and a desire for revenge for a lost match. Total fun. But what's important! Because of how the game looks now - fun in the NBA, the USA is weaker and weaker on the international stage. In Europe they defend themselves, in the NBA they don't defend themselves. In the NBA a guy hits 15 three-pointers, in Europe it's unthinkable because he would have left the court a long time ago. In Europe there is no fucking ISOLATION! And in the NBA he hits one across the entire court and plays to himself. In the US it may be funny but someone watching it in Europe can't believe such shit, sorry. Apart from PO there's nothing to watch, seriously. You want to see doggedness and balls? Watch the FIBA Champions League. There's been no balls in the NBA for at least a decade!
    PS.. I'm also surprised by the refereeing in the NBA - pharmacy. It's the referees (and therefore the NBA authorities) who are to blame for taking away the players' balls. You punish them with penalties for anything, taking away their manhood. Give them back their balls!!!! You're taking away the players' manhood, which is already dying out. You can't wave your hand because you'll get a technical and a 100k fine for anything. You can't fart during a game because you'd even punish them for it, because it's so unethical. And that's why they run around like xxxx. Nothing is allowed in this NBA anymore. The guy's a pussy... There's more balls in the WNBA already... Give the fans back the 90s and 2000!!!! and finally start defending!!!!

    Even as a old guy (45), and former D-League and CBA player (before G-League)...I like playing the young hopers at the gym and park.
    They swear you play hard because you guarding them within arm's reach, and if you guard them at half court they really feel some type of way...my response, this how we played back in the day.

    Played ball all through highschool and university growing up in the Bird vs Magic era. That is how I like the game. I realize everything evolves in life, in sports, and that includes, in the game of basketball. So, I'm not sure if it is today's game or the work ethic of today's players that has turned me off the game. There are no more "men" like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Isiah Thomas etc., players who turned up every night, ready to work a full 48 minutes. It did not matter if they had a hangnail, a headache, or a fractured cheekbone, they had a job to do, and they did it. I find today's game boring, it is just a 3 point contest. Period. Full stop. For me, I'm not interested anymore because "the game has gone out of the game".

    and they say that today's players are faster and more dynamic. Yes - if you don't defend but run to attack and shoot threes, you will probably have more strength than normal defenders, intercepting and playing the attack, right? Not long ago, in the 80' or 90' someone was covering someone with a plaster to exclude him from the match, etc. And today? I wasn't told to defend! Because I'll get tired! I have to have the strength to score 50 points on the newspaper. Did we lose? What do I care... Something has to change, but someone has to care about it. Another ASG like that and no one in Europe will watch it. I recommend doing some kind of survey on this topic. Maybe it will teach you something. In the past, you waited all day and night for a match, and after the match in the morning you went to the pitch to play. Today, who is going to watch this circus?

    The NBA first made hand checking a foul in 1979, then made more restrictive rules in 1994. Although it was “banned” in 2004, hand checking is still allowed in the modern nba, it’s in every game.
