Rick Barry nailed it😂😂😂
1 of my favorite Kobe quotes about why he played hurt, "Somebody in those stands planned, saved up, took off, just to see me play. I can't let them down"
He got that mentality from MJ
@@frostedflakes55facts he sure did
Yep, that's why guys like Kobe, MJ, Larry, Magic, Dr. J, Shaq, Kareem, etc. are TRUE legends. It wasn't all about the stats. It was about winning and setting the right example for everyone else. I definitely miss those days.
That was an MJ quote, but Kobe was great too.
@@wento5461 Jordan immitator
Agree with all of it. Rick Barry said it best, “The game is boring to watch now.”
The thing that upsets me the most is the amount of traveling. It's ridiculous...and don't talk to me about a gather step. None of these 15 guys needed it.
Yea the drag dribble into a step back is bogus…it’s a travel plain and simple
90's NBA was the best! No questions asked!
Why, because that's when you grew up with it? Everyone is entitlex to their opinion anbd none of them were wrong. I''ve been watching the NBA since 1966 and I'd take the 80s over the 90s any day. The 90s were almost exclusively about Jordan and the Bulls. The 80s had greart Lakers, Celtics and Pistons dybnasies teams and some other very competitive, fun to watch teams. Just my opinon.
2000s to early 2010s was the best in my opinion, balance between physicality and defense
2000-2014 was goated
Although I wouldn't bash the 80s and 90s like other GEN Z's

@@MarkMay-cr6bv I agree about the 80s. How's this? Magic, Bird, Jordan, Dr. J, Moses, Dominique, Hakeem, Isiah, Gervin.....
I can't even remember the last time I watched an NBA game on TV. Pretty sure Kobe was still playing.
The last game I watched was game 6 Lakers/Kings playoff. The NBA basically told you the games are rigged. That was it.
@@sprsmoke I lost 20$ on that game! I definitely enjoyed the games back then. Im 50 stopped watching 15 years ago. NFL is worst!
100% agree with everything the legends said. Adam Silver has made the game soft and these new all-stars crapping on the older generation is just downright despicable.
Edwards is a spoiled overrated player, he does not play teambasketbal but only playing for himself. Moreover he is not a skilled player himself, yes he can jump and he is athletic but his dribbling, shooting and driving is not very special. He only thinks he is a special player because everybody tells him and he is gonna believe that nonsense.
@@robertpeters-kb4xsCorrect
David Stern is the one that changed the rules. Not Adam Silver.
Responsibility does not solely rest with Silver; it also lies with the players and the metrics. NBAPA is a partner of the NBA, and they dictate how the game is played. The marketing numbers said fans were more attracted to scoring than the 'Bad Boys' defense. Sports science experts advised management on the importance of rest days for optimal performance. The scoring metrics told coaches that shooting 3s would be better than 2s.The combination of all these factors made the game the way it is.
@@fredlin6303 Meaning. The game was changed from being a competition to being entertainment.
During the 80's and 90's and early 2000's, games were were tougher, more defense oriented, but the scoring was decent.
Also, more players played 82 games regular season.
With the advancement of of sports medicine, players today play less games and rest more.
How many players in recent years played an 82 game regular season?
GOAT Jordan did it 9 times in a 15 season career including in his last season in 2003.
Jordan......The GOAT.....Playing 82 Games?
Why? Because he is the most competitive mother!!!!!
The game was made SOFT.
Now Players Are Soft.
The NBA is no longer a competitive league. It is now more for "entertainment" and gambling.
The NBA is Now like the WWE (except for gambling).
The Last Great Champion Team is the 2014 Spurs.
That Team was the last of the Old School and The Beginning Of The Current Style.
The NBA is boring now and the best players are Europeans.
Jokic, Doncic and Now Wemby will be ruling in the next 15 years.
American players became too lazy and decadent.
Gather step travel and carrying is my biggest gripe
Euro step
The stupid 0 step gather is the one that pisses me off. Like how did this generation learn how to count? It’s still a step and should be counted as 1. Now they’re believing you can take 3 steps 🤦🏽♂️
I'm 42 and I play with these youngsters aging 20 - 30y.o. And I'm not kidding my team always wins against these youngsters. I told them "in 10 threes you shoot how many you guys made? 4? So that's 12 points. Didn't you notice in 10 layups we attempt we made 8, that's 16 points. That's why you keep losing even if we're not that athletic as you guys."
Exactly. They just think 3 is more than 2, but they don't realize that the % of those made are very different
@@TheElectricSheep exactly, they forget 2 > 0
@@skalawitz dummies 😆
You didn't even talk about the comments of the European talent in the NBA saying that scoring in the NBA is much easier than the European league. I think Luka Doncic said that.
luka, giannis, nikola, but basucally all say that
it makes luka even more special xd
It's not necessarily toughness as such. You have to work for your points in Europe. You had to hustle to score in the NBA in the 1990s. Rodman won games on defense alone. Or earlier. Wilt was better than Russell. Russell and the Celtics won all those championships because of game plan. The thing is, nobody can stop a player like Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, etc. one on one. You have to use smarts. Like the Bulls and Rodman against Shaq.
@@patientzero291 what has he won
Because the nba is all about overhyped and overrated players. It is no longer about basketball. It's about who is popular and hyped by the media.
Agree with all 15. I only watch the playoffs now. Growing up and into my mid-20s (2010), I never missed a game on tv. Never missed a Finals until 2012. Now, the game is unbearable. I've coached at the youth level, they are trying to be Curry and jack up threes. The game has never been worse.
Thank you. Even watching the highlights is boring to me. The game is soooo bad now.
I agree with every single comment made by these great players. JJ Reddick and Anthony Edwards should both be made to wear DUNCE Caps and sit facing a corner of a classroom, and THEN be forced to watch film of ALL the NBA Greats from GEORGE MIKAN on down!!!

Great video YounGala. I'm 53 y.o., so my opinion is 100% on the side of these legends.
The NBA today is his how guys 20 years ago would play for the first 3 quarters of an NBA All-Star game.

Totally agree with all these legends they spitting out facts for sure
Thank you adam for making nba a clown show, 😂😂😂😂
Because back then there weren't - after all - such attractions off the court as there are now. Back then only basketball mattered. There wasn't as much money. People go crazy when they get money, they prefer off-court glamour, red carpets, etc. Today the NBA is a show in RS, lack of commitment, lack of defense, ASG is a joke! Serious play only begins in PO. Once the players of opposing teams were enemies, today they are friends patting each other on the butts and giving high fives after matches. Zero aggression, balls and a desire for revenge for a lost match. Total fun. But what's important! Because of how the game looks now - fun in the NBA, the USA is weaker and weaker on the international stage. In Europe they defend themselves, in the NBA they don't defend themselves. In the NBA a guy hits 15 three-pointers, in Europe it's unthinkable because he would have left the court a long time ago. In Europe there is no fucking ISOLATION! And in the NBA he hits one across the entire court and plays to himself. In the US it may be funny but someone watching it in Europe can't believe such shit, sorry. Apart from PO there's nothing to watch, seriously. You want to see doggedness and balls? Watch the FIBA Champions League. There's been no balls in the NBA for at least a decade!
PS.. I'm also surprised by the refereeing in the NBA - pharmacy. It's the referees (and therefore the NBA authorities) who are to blame for taking away the players' balls. You punish them with penalties for anything, taking away their manhood. Give them back their balls!!!! You're taking away the players' manhood, which is already dying out. You can't wave your hand because you'll get a technical and a 100k fine for anything. You can't fart during a game because you'd even punish them for it, because it's so unethical. And that's why they run around like xxxx. Nothing is allowed in this NBA anymore. The guy's a pussy... There's more balls in the WNBA already... Give the fans back the 90s and 2000!!!! and finally start defending!!!!
I totally agree with Mr. Rick Barry; DEFENSE, DEFENSE and more defense!!! Today's NBA has practically NONE of it.
Great vid!!!...NBA should listen to these legends to make the entire NBA season exxiting again
Coach Red Auerbach said to learn the fundamentals of all the positions. It seems they've only learned the fundamentals of one position: shooting guard.
@ruminator3570 what position did they had beside hard fouls.
Today players can play more positions then the past,so what are you saying?
@m.d.maxwell1594 what he's saying is that today's players lack fundamentals and players today cannot play more positions. AND HE'S RIGHT!! Skill level, iq, athleticism and talent are at an all time low. Not to mention the lack of heart for the game!!
@jasonwaznak5825 that's a lie. The players today can play more positions then the 80's and 80's. You got 7 footer now that can bring the ball up and play pg. You have guards that can play sf.Then most of all the players in this era can dribble and shoot. Yeah they travel alot and don't get called but I rather they travel, then try to hurt someone for going to paint cause that's the only way to stop them. That some weak ass shit.
@m.d.maxwell1594 Sorry kiddo but truth is truth no matter how YOU CHOOSE to slice it. Love how you say you prefer them to travel, that explains a lot about what's wrong with the cupcake league of today. And back then, we understood since the 50s that basketball had defense, unlike today. Contact was part of the game and we were used to being challenged every step of the way!! Oh and tell me about the 80s and 80s will you!!??
Yes! Strongly agree. Today's game is watered down. It's not excited anymore.

Those Ewing highlights look scary physically. Like he physically scares me to potentially play against due to speed, size, power and aggressiveness.
Lol i was gonna turn this off if JJ Reddick was one of the guys speaking for the past. He so disrespect and not a student of the game. Then Wilkins speaking facts in response. 😂
Wilkins is always disrespectful to the young players and then say they r crapping on the older generation. If u want respect u have to give respect.

Love to hear Wilkins knowledge and speaking 😊!
Played ball all through highschool and university growing up in the Bird vs Magic era. That is how I like the game. I realize everything evolves in life, in sports, and that includes, in the game of basketball. So, I'm not sure if it is today's game or the work ethic of today's players that has turned me off the game. There are no more "men" like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Isiah Thomas etc., players who turned up every night, ready to work a full 48 minutes. It did not matter if they had a hangnail, a headache, or a fractured cheekbone, they had a job to do, and they did it. I find today's game boring, it is just a 3 point contest. Period. Full stop. For me, I'm not interested anymore because "the game has gone out of the game".
Exactly 💯 it's rec ball at the YMCA. The integrity of the game is gone.
I just watched video of Isiah Thomas 1988 NBA Finals. He is injured, hurting and limping on one leg yet still racking points. Thats crazy 💯💯

Yes. I dont watch my home team oe much of the NBA anymore. The players run the league, and it's made it unbearably sad to watch.
@RandySmith-iz1ml AGREED the NFL has become awful to watch.
I think we know all of this. It’s very restricted. Not to mention you can’t get physical with players anymore. Shaq said it and most of the players that have played in those years said it too. The NBA today sucks.
Not just the NBA, international as well. They all need the moving screen to score.
This should be sent out to all the Caitlin Clark fans out there. That think shooting 5-15 from 3 is going to win you a lot of games!
And 6 Turnovers per game
Simple fix. Bring back hand check. Get rid of backing down rule. Implement back strict traveling rules.
That will take care of a lot of problems, No doubt.
JJ Reddick with another bad take, big surprise.
It's very hard to watch the NBA these days but I still love it! I'll take basketball over any sport despite the circus it currently is. In time it will get good again and I'll be there every step of the way!
Around 2015 I completely stopped watching the NBA. It’s sad, I used to love it, but then it became something I didn’t recognize.

Edward's comment was clearly 100% ignorant, but saying that today's players couldn't play 20-30 years ago is equally ignorant.

6:15 FACTS they lazy this generation. NO DEE.
Ultimately, comes down to what kind of ball you want to watch. Personally, I'd prefer to watch a balance of inside post, above-the-rim, mid-range and defence, over today's long ball; today's game is just, well, boring, frankly.
Modern 3s are great because it opens up spacing for everyone. Hence, i am surprised why bigs arent taking advantage of a less crowded paint!

Facing up is more efficient for them, too. I get that it's frustrating to watch 280 lb. Joel Embiid play 24 feet away from the basket, but the math doesn't lie--those are more effective possessions for him than postups.

@@cooljohn6961good for them. Let us know how do you justify that number when noone is watching and. Not buying your merchandise?
David Stern started it all at his old age.
8:21 Having bigs be able to shoot threes spaces the floor. Also, physically imposing stars can’t always take their man one on one because those stars are typically playing against zone.
Elaborate on Zone Defense please?
and they say that today's players are faster and more dynamic. Yes - if you don't defend but run to attack and shoot threes, you will probably have more strength than normal defenders, intercepting and playing the attack, right? Not long ago, in the 80' or 90' someone was covering someone with a plaster to exclude him from the match, etc. And today? I wasn't told to defend! Because I'll get tired! I have to have the strength to score 50 points on the newspaper. Did we lose? What do I care... Something has to change, but someone has to care about it. Another ASG like that and no one in Europe will watch it. I recommend doing some kind of survey on this topic. Maybe it will teach you something. In the past, you waited all day and night for a match, and after the match in the morning you went to the pitch to play. Today, who is going to watch this circus?
Ty great video truly insightful from many greats and legends of the game..
Shaq wasn't the first big guy to go coast to coast.
He's also not Giannis. I remember the coast-to-coast play he's referring to--whole thing, not the edited version in this video. Straight line, awkward-looking dribble; we thought it was as funny as it was impressive that he actually made it the whole way. It didn't even closely resemble what Giannis does as an actual playmaker on the perimeter.
That said, sure he can play today. Surround him with shooters, who's stopping him if he has the paint to himself?

When I was a kid it was all about backing a guy down and also mid-range jump shots where you shoot while still moving forward in the air
There's something wrong with today's generation, and it's not even the players making the League, the bigger problem is the kids not making it.
Back in the day you had players from all kinds of backgrounds, but today like half the NBA has a father who played pro. Klay, Tatum, Steph, Luka, Wiggens, GPII, Booker, JJJ, the list goes on and it's only accelerating, next year 21/50 top high schoolers are NBA kids. Something is wrong with this generation.
As a coach the reality is these privileged kids with access to top trainers early on are often the ones who become the best players and you combine that with genetics and your odds go wayyy up.

They are too busy spending their millions and of course doing Tiktok, Instagram, and other social media stuff. For many of the NBA players today and even their coaches, basketball IQ is lacking. All they want to do is out-shoot or out-score their opponents. No defensive strategies whatsoever. NBA - No Brains Applied. And LOAD MANAGEMENT! WTF?!
In 1992 the NBA was the exact opposite No Babies Allowed. Now you see babies and pussies rule the game.
People talk a lot about legacy these days, but what they don't say is that are good legacies and bad legacies. What is happening now, with this generation, the lack of commitment to the fans and the level of disrespect they have for older generations... this era is actually hurting the game of basketball
Not even half of the league could play today.
????? tf u on???? HAHAHAHA
@@DarknessIss22 where do you buy your weed from??
@@jed949 These guys today would absolutely get destroyed by the players from the 80s. Put down the crack pipe. They are nothing but beta males.
EWING WAS IN LOVE WITH HIS POSITION IN THE GAME!!!!!!!!
They should do a 90’s rules month
And see how players today handle it
They would dominate
@@jameskent836 Are you sure about this? Mind if you explain 1990s Rules and how are they different from modern rules?
It's the 3 pointer after 3 pointer after 3 pointer it's like CLICK what else is on
The NBA first made hand checking a foul in 1979, then made more restrictive rules in 1994. Although it was “banned” in 2004, hand checking is still allowed in the modern nba, it’s in every game.
Examples of hand checking still being used in modern NBA?
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te there is hardly any defenders in today's game Giannis does it and Kwahi from time to time they use more of their forearm than actual hands. Plenty of players push the scorers away from the rim on drives to the basket.
where at bc I haven't seen shit
He meant on nba2k
That comment by Edward's is ridiculous totally makes no sense
Soft, constant carrying, palming , traveling, and now( look at Doncic) pushing off is allowed!!! All these guys would be out of the game in the 80s. Doncic would be fouled out in 5 minutes. It’s ridiculously bad
Wow! Rick Barry endorsing TEAMWORK! 😂
When you make LBJTQ the face of your league you get soft softest era in NBA history.

I watched 90s basketball. Boring asf. There were a million timeouts because fake tough guys were always pushing and shoving. So many bricks i couldve built a wall up to space. Postgame interviews were the only thing that was better. Those guys had zero filter.
Seriously the game was really slow back then
@@jameskent836 Elaborate as to why you say that the game was way slower paced back then compared to now. Explain please…
@@TiagoGomez-hb9te the game was slower in terms of pace. Every time I watch the games from before it’s completely slow from court to court too much dribbling with one hand. They are doing less shot taking and passing more into the paint and bricking shots in the paint rebound and then wait until somebody makes a shot
@@jameskent836 Wow! That’s pretty bad and very amateurish. Old heads are saying that basketball was way more skilled back then? Are they kidding or is nostalgia talking to them?
1990s NBA sounds like Modern WNBA… but everyone clowns on WNBA…
Yes, I agree 110% with all their comments.
