    Thanks for this Brian. The video was extremely helpful and helped answer most of the questions I had. One question I still have though (which you answered in part) is regarding the 12.4. In your opinion, would you say that the characteristics, playability and feel of this shaft is more akin to the 12.9 or the 11.8?.
    I have played with both the 12.9 and 11.8 but I have never played with the 12.4.
    The 12.9 was what I started off with and after some practice I found that I really liked it. The only downside that I experienced was that table length draw (backspin) wasn't as easy for me to achieve with the 12.9 revo as it was playing with slightly smaller diameter tips on previous wooden shafts, so this is what made me want to try out the 11.8. I play a fair bit of snooker as well as pool, so I am used to a skinnier shaft, but for whatever reason I didn't gel with the 11.8 revo at all as the contact felt really clunky and I didn't receive good feedback on shots whatsoever. (For reference, both the 11.8 and 12.9 had the standard victory tip).
    Given that I (mostly) liked the 12.9 and i didn't like the 11.8 so much, would you say that the 12.4 could be the compromise that I am looking for here?.
    I reckon that if the characteristics of the 12.4 airs more towards the characteristics of 12.9 than it does the 11.8, then the 12.4 would be perfect for me.

    I have a Revo 11.8 and a 12.4. I can’t tell any difference in the taper. I do probably use a shorter bridge and haven’t used a caliper on them, but just passing it through my closed bridge they look and feel the same on the stroke. If there’s a difference between the two I can’t see or feel it. How are they shaped differently.

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never used anything smaller than 12.4 so I’m not sure I can tell you. I have large hands and I feel it would be a problem for me.

    Yes after watching previous Revo reviews of yours I broke down and got a predator P3 curly maple with a Revo shaft I have 8 12.9 but I have played with a 12.4 and played really well with it also. I have a white Ferrell on my stick and I shoot with a predator victory soft. And I'm shooting some of my best pool. So I would highly recommend the revo also.

  • @propoolinstructor
    @propoolinstructor 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    100 % agree with the no ferrule being a better option. When I play with my cynergy with a white ferrule. I have many more instances that I accidentally hit the cue ball during my practice strokes. When I use my Revo, those mistakes diminished dramatically. Because it is much easier to see the end of the tip with a black vault plate. Due to the blur. When you practice stroke, it creates a motion blur. And if you have a white ferrel, motion blur causes the cue ball and end of your tip to become "one" causing more cueball fouls. Also I'm using the 12.9mm. With a nickle shape. It is so accurate. I love it. Wont ever look back. Thanks for the great content and have a good day. Victory tips are the best!

    Question: I play/practice around 10-12 hours weekly and use Kamui soft tips. What would you estimate the life expectancy of the Victory equivalent tip?

      The Victory seems to hold up better but I change my tips every 6 months regardless of how worn they are at the time. With the number of hours you put in, both should last 6 months unless you spend too much time shaping them.

    Soft tip was absolutely instrumental to fine tuning my revo. The shaft is stiff by itself and combined with a hard tip it plays and sounds like a bare bone plastic with zero feel in it, which can be quite disappointing until you slap the right tip on it.

    Do you think I will regret going from the z2 for 15 years at 11.75 to the 12.4 debating going with a different brand 11.8 30 inch carbon shaft or the predator 12.4 30 inch shaft since they don't offer the 11.8 with the 30 inch shaft

    • @FXBilliards
      @FXBilliards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL Ben I wrote you a long message about what I think and then lost it somehow. The bottom line is going from the 11.75 up will be easier than going the other way because the larger tip is more forgiving. You will also (once you get used to it) have more options on the market for future cue purchases and a larger market if you want to sell it later. I hope this helps.

      There is no difference in the way they play. Some people could not adjust to the all black so they made the white. I have 4 revos, 2 black and 2 white. If you asked me in the middle of a match, which one I was just shooting with, I could not tell you. Thanks for your question.

The only variable that I am not sure of is the 12.4 30 inch. How different does this shaft play? My arms are long so a longer shaft would be better. Thanks

    You covered the ups and downs of the different shafts perfectly. I play with the 11,8 wvp and its get me out of some bad positions being able to draw 2 table lengths if needed, however it also cost me a final hill-hill game. I had to shot the 9 straight up the table and got just a little bit of side with a nervous arm, it was enough to throw the 9ball and it stuck in the pocket. I do not recommend the 11,8 for beginners.

      Predator has hundreds of authorized repair centers. Most retailers that sell predator shafts have someone authorized to change a tip. I’ve got four within an hour of my house. You can also send it to predator for a tip repair and they’ll send it back within a week. Oh, and by the way, no expensive shafts by any company should ever be worked on by anyone other than professionals, or you are just asking for trouble? I know lots of guys that do it but it’s a bad idea.

    Some guys complain that soft tips mushroom out too quickly. Do you agree with that assessment where the Victory tip is concerned? Thank you for an excellent presentation.

      I have not in 20 years had a tip mushroom. Any tip. Ever. I do play with quality tips and replace them more often than most people might but mushrooming is not something I have seen in 15 years.

      @@FXBilliards Thank you for your prompt reply! I just ordered a Predator Carbon Fibre Shaft and will leave the tip that comes with it and replace it as necessitated by circumstances. Sure like some of those shots in your introduction.

    Thank you for this video! Have you heard of or noticed any production variations/quality control issues amongst the shafts? I've read that some have a dead sound, or some have a ringing/pinging sound, or some even click when striking the ball. That's really the only factor in my purchasing decision. Thanks again for the videos, they are so helpful and entertaining!

      I’ve never once heard such issues from anyone who actually owns the shaft. I’ve only heard it from people who heard it from people. Predator has one of the best warranties and quality control in the industry so I can’t imagine this is a legitimate issue. I’ve owned over 10 predator shafts in the last 15 years with zero problems.

    Great Video. Have you played with the Cuetec Cynergy shafts? If so how do you compare them to each other?

      I have not played with a Cynergy for any extended period of time.
