I'm doing this in my garage to pull dead ones into the shop.
I will use the drop in inserts however instead of the studs because I plan on removing it when not needed so I don't trip over it.
Next thing is to put another anchor point on the winch mounting plate so you can have someplace secure to latch the hook back into when using a snatch block in a double line pull configuration.
To fill the holes in the floor when not being used , I just got the flat headed socket head screws at Lowes so they fill the holes.
I also used those same bolts when mounting the winch to the plate so it sits flat on the floor.

great video.i'm installing 4 winches on my garage floor.I put the old car on dollies and want to be able to move the car off to the side of the garage without physically pushing on the tires to move the car.20 years ago it would'nt have been a issue without winches!I figure one winch per dolly and get a straight pull.

If anyone buys this from Harbor freight and ends up needing a new hand control , Harbor Freight does NOT offer a replacement . I ended up buying one from Northern Tool for the IRONTON 54129 sold by Northern , and it works like new . The new hand control even comes with the cord for just under $20.00 plus shipping . It was $29.00 to my door . I used the new controller to hook up dual controllers since my shop has an upper floor and I use the winch to open and close a trap door in the upper floor . I can now open the door before going up on the scissor lift , and can open or close it once I am up there with the other controller .

Good explanation of the installation. Very helpful. I'm helping my nephew replace an engine in a car on which he got a good deal because it has a thrown rod. My driveway's incline is only about 8%, but I know this won't be the last time I'll be moving an inoperable vehicle. I may pick up and install one of these winches tomorrow. Thanks

I installed the winch out of site under a rolling cabinet at the back wall of my garage; the cabinet just cleared the winch by 1/4". My nephew and I used the winch to pull his 2700-lb. Pontiac Vibe into my garage - easy, quick job.
A couple things I did when installing the winch: (1) I used Superstrut 3/8" square washers as spacers under the four corners of the winch. This gave the winch mounting plate bolts about 1/16" clearance from the floor. (2) I installed the fairlead bolts with the nuts facing out. (3) The front bolt that mounts the winch to the plate was cut about 1/4" so the cable would easily clear without abrading.

Could this winch pull a 6,000 pound tandem axle boat trailer up a 7% grade? Based on your chart, it seems like it could.

The only drawback is the lack of a cable guide on the return/rewind. This missing feature will cause the steel cable to compound itself and stack cable on top of cable. Hence, a round steel cable with have flat impressions on it, in addtion to have a tendency of kinking.
However, I use a clawhammer to guide the cable on the return/draw. I use the curve, or claw, to guide the cable lapping side by side of the spool. Besides that, this Badland/Harbor Freight winch is a good tool for the money. Just don't over use it for a purpose it was never designed to fit. Also, pay real attention to the electic expension cord that you use. Make sure you use 16 or 14 gauge extension cord, at a minimum. The instructions will help you select the right type and length.

@@CarsNToys, some of the wenches I've known are both AC and DC. I'm not fond of wenches that go both ways, but I suppose it's better than having one's nuts adjusted by a wrinch.

lol thanks...I'm using it to pull my Z in the garage. The car is incredibly light without the motor and tranny. It gets the job done.
