It's so much more interesting to watch bike reviews from someone like you than a 'regular' boring youtube motorcycle reviewer. Feels like we are getting the no nonsense description of the way it would actually feel to own and ride a bike. Thanks and please keep up with this kind of videos!

I've had a '21 M Sport XR going on a year and I love it! M package comes with an Akrapovic pipe, "maintenance free" M chain, M forged wheels, and a super light battery. I have the low suspension version. I'm 6 foot and I can flat foot it. I know of no one who has more skill that can handle that bike, pull the trigger and buy it! You wont regret it...

I have 17k miles on my 2016xr. Absolutely love it still!! I ride hard northern CA, coast and mountains. Rented on in Milan Italy and did 2200 miles in 10 eays the Alps, perfect bike! No problem with it yet! I do hear complaints about vibrations, no worse than my 2017RR. Stick with Pirel tires. Yeah old guy 55 years here

I hv a 21 XR. I love it. Hadn't rode in 12 years when I bought it. It is everything I need it to be. My last bike I owned (back in the day) was a full on sportbike. The XR is Comfortable, has CC, heated grips, place to mount luggage, good wind protection, semi active suspension all the good stuff you mentioned and then some. Went for a day ride into the GA mtns ystrdy from SC. 300+ day and I couldn't ask for a better bike for me.... BMW made me a believer lol .

I ride the 22 M Sport. It comes with all bells and whistles including the Akra can and sounds a bit better. While I am an experienced rider, I am not a very skilled sport bike rider, but I am enjoying it to the core and learning it every day. The best bike I ever owned which is also making me learn more and keeping me upright with its technology!

i have the same exact model for 4 mos now. the rev limiter after 600 miles turned the bike into a complete beast. M chain is nice addition. bought MRA VXCM windshield and never noticed doing 100mph because of the comfort. the bike is just amazing. by the way, the new update for TFT will let you go to the last screen. BT connections were all polished and no cuts on my cardo and iphone now.

In case y’all don’t know, you can get all the same Sport screen info (plus logging) from the XR on a GS/A if you use the BMW Connected App and a BMW Connected Cradle (and probably any other bike with GPS prep, of course). One of the best features of the BMW Connected App/Cradle, when it decides to all work correctly (it’s not 100% bulletproof), and it’s controllable via the BMW wonder-wheel/menu buttons on the handlebars.

About the throttle. You choose Dynamic Pro and i think it's the same as the USER mode from the 2015-2018 BMWs where you can set your response and DCT how you like it in the menu. So maybe the responds in dynamic pro is set on road and not dynamic and could be more direct (or how many would say twitchy ;) )
Anyways…GREAT bike. I rode one too in 2020 and it was awesome.
And great video too as always :)

For an Edelweiss tour in the Dolomites, I wanted something light and easier to toss in the twisties in the Alps, so I tried an F900 R - naked roadster. OMG…fun little thing. Now am thinking of the F900 XR…or, dang -. Traded in my K1300S in May this year for a 2022 RT and love it for 1000-2000+ mile trips. Still…the S100XR is making me think…

Informative review. I have an RT and a good relationship with my BMW dealer, so when I was looking for a sport tourer (technically my RT IS a sport tourer, but it leans heavily, pun intended, on the touring side), I test rode the 900 XR and S1000XR. I preferred the larger displacement of the two and felt that the bigger bike had better brakes, power delivery and suspension. I also test rode a 2021Tracer 9GT. In absolute terms the S1000XR was more powerful, had better suspension, and the brakes had more feel, but I wound up buying the Yamaha. I didn't need, nor would I ever exploit, all of the capabilities of the BMW. And the Yamaha was significantly less expensive. As always, it's important to ask yourself where and how you want to ride.

I never ever buy a Tracer GT9 instead of an XR. I have a '18 XR and I tested my friends' GT9 (also tried long term the Gen2 XR). They are in a very different league. On street I would not miss the power, but the suspension, brakes and electronics (DESA, cornering ABS, etc.) makes the XR superior. XR does not have a competition on the market now (Multis are meant for different segment, as the SADV too). It can nearly give you the comfort of a GS (with pillion and luggage), you can tour for thousand of kms, you can enjoy the twisties, and you can go for track days as well. The Gen2 tuned in a different way, less aggressive, no pop-bangs in dynamic, etc., but the Gen2 with a bren tuning it could get back all of the factory "detuned" features. XR is nearly perfect, but just nearly. It has some strange flaws, like terrible engine noise.

As always great review. I currently have that exact bike...the 2022 Triple Black. At 59yo I was looking for something sporty but not too heavy as a tourer. I have owned many bikes, VFR(2), CBR(3), R1(2), R6, Superhawk, more MX bikes that i can remember and most recently a 2017 Ducati Supersport S. I bought the Ducati thinking it could do the touring part.....it cant comfortably. I tested many bikes last year, GS, RS, MultiStrada, Triumph Tiger and they are all good. When I tested the XR I thought I was sold on the Multi since it also has amazing, if not better( adaptive CC and blind spot) technology. Something made me go back about 3 months later and test the XR again. I asked the BMW dealer if I could have more than an hour test ride to properly figure out what this bike is about. After a nice 3 hour ride, I then realized that it is a wolf in sheeps clothing and thats exactly what I was looking for and to your point "A sportbike for old guys". It can play both roles effortlessly and it will make you smile the entire time because your not in any type of discomfort. I took it to Tennessee / North Carolina border ( Dragon, Cheroholla, BRP, etc)this past August. This was our 6th year in a row doing this trip and the XR provided the best experience that I have ever had on this trip. One of my buddies who has GS called it "a wheelie machine with side bags".
The only other bike that I can think you can really compare it to is the new MS Pikes Peak. If you can even get one....and be prepared to ad another $12k to the XR price. Cheers!

Thanks for saying what you test drove. Basically seems like we’re in the same boat bike choice wise. Trying to decide between this and the R. Haven’t really toured but ride a lot of interstate when I go to work and want to start touring. Wanted something with a windscreen and heated grips for when I ride in the winter in CO. Hope your still enjoying it.

@@mattstakeontheancients7594 The R is an awesome bike but it will have a different rider geometry....not as upright as the XR. Everything else is the same, including the motor. I rode mine stock for the first 2k miles, then i added the Brentune + Sprint AF. This made the fueling perfect under 6k RPM, which was the main reason i did the mod. It also added a little pop up top but I rarely get it up there. The bike now has slightly more grunt, not GS grunt, but better than stock.

Love your channel. I so love BMW bikes and have test rode a new RT but really like this bike. Currently ride a newer Wing but it's just underpowered and blah. But I just hear of so many issues with BMWs otherwise I'd own one tomorrow. Love em tho!

Excellent review of this motorcycle. Being born in Munich Bavaria. I have a tendency to be biased towards BMW Motorrad. I have a 1983 R100RS with 493,000 kilometres on the dial. And still going well.

Had a 2015, did 45000 miles and 20 countries on it. An absolutely amazing bike, especially with the BMW warranty and service. Only negative service costs are approx double that of a GS.

The top case rack doesn’t ‘wiggle’ to distribute the weight, it is designed to try and stop high speed weave which effects a lot of bikes with top boxes.

    I have one .
HP version with Akrapoivch and some options that comes with it.
I would recomenf it to the people who are looking for great touring bikes ,and great sport bikes.
As far as the turing is , the side cases are great , the full face helmet fits in it , and planty room for a 10 days trip, if you have side cases.
Top case is small , but bih enough to fit a full face helmet , and it is really stady .
You can ride very fast with all of the cases on .
Real fun starts anove 9000 rpm , and first time it was scary , since i expected to start slowing , but it just went faster.
If you are in the big city with a lot of trafic , with or without side cases you can go thru trafic easily.
It is comfortable. and if yu are not on a track or german autobahn , the consamption is around 6,5l/100km.
Since I am from Europe , I dont know how many miles per galon.
The gasoline tank is around 20 liters , and it is ok for 180 km on a normal road ( 115 miles), but on an autobahn , and when riding fast the consumption goes double.
I am ony mentioning it becaouse if you are riding GS , it has bigger tank.
On Hp chain lubrication is done automaticly , so no need to warry about it.
On normal version , you have to do it by yourself.
Normaly I drive in Dynamic mode since in Dynimic pro , the DTC ( dynamic traction control is almost totaly off) , and Dynamic is fast enpugh for me, and I feel safer.
On a longer trip I ride in the road mode , since it is softer , and you really feel the difference.

I saw one at my local dealer. They suggested a 900 Triumph Tiger, but I am in love with this bike. I don't want to get rid of my Triumph so I'll need to revise my investment plan. I do want to travel. This bike would be perfect. I have friends all over the USA.

Best sport tourer out there, had s1000sx, fjr1300, mt09 tracer...bike for life for me...surprised you havent owned one G...one caveat take it out on a longer run in twisties being a taller fella that acute knee angle may be uncomfortable after a while.
