I’m fortunate to own a GS Adventure and a S1000XR Msport. The XR is so so easy to ride and is just fun from start to finish. I’m 6’3 and have an MRA screen on it and the wind protection is better than on the GS. It has made me a better rider confirmed by my wife who rides pillion on the GS quite a bit. The handling on the XR is just so good. If you’re a solo rider I would highly recommend this bike as an all rounder 👍
Great video. Traded in my gs1250, got an early viewing on the last bank holiday. Done the deal on the spot. Delivered Wednesday white, carbon wheels. Unbelievable machine, only done 120miles , still running in so much power. Not as comfy as the gs but so much better.
I’ve got a gsa and really fancy this, would you say it was much less comfortable? My gsa is an all day mile muncher, super comfortable but I’ve always fancied a super quick bike
I’ve watched this video three times now just to get a laugh because you just sum up how I feel every time I go out on mine. 😂 It’s just such a great bike and the basic S1000XR with full luggage , dynamic pack etc comes in at £20k for those that might think of trying an XR and comparing to a 1300. Can’t wait to hear you Fen when you get the bike 👍
Haha you must be a sucker watching 3 times. Anyway I am being totally real on this, the MXR is way more exhilarating than the Multistrada I was considering and makes my R1250GS feel like a tank! I am very excited and can’t wait for delivery.
Just watched your review as I own a modified gen 1 and having tried a gen 2 a while ago, was a bit disappointed, so stuck with my 2018 gen 1. However this bike is clearly a massive game changer. I saw one in Oundle a couple of weeks ago when I was test driving an old Jag so I stopped to take a few pics. I now realise it was you at Beans having a brew. Thanks for the insight and great review, I shall be off to Sycamores to book a test ride ASAP.
Ahhh yes I saw you looking, there were quite a few people stopping to look whilst I had lunch. Enjoy the test ride, it will I am sure impress. Please do say hi to Ian, Mike and Dan from me. Please do let me know how you get on?
I've ordered one too! Apparently I'll get it mid-June. I love the look of the black, but not the extra £5,000 so I've gone for the white. May still spec the carbon wheels though as my RR had them and it was the best front end I've ever had on a bike.
How exciting is that, luckily mine is being delivered to Sycamore tomorrow! So not long to wait now. I have gone for the silly expensive Comp Pack, however at my age and with children now independent I am spending the money whilst I am alive… maximum smiles, minimum bank balance!
I've just had my 1st service on my M1000XR, what a bike, great review. I must say that on mine the mirrors are pretty useless after 4000rpm, and bars are a bit vibey, but the handling is 2nd to none, I have the white M without the carbon bits on (couldn't justify another £5k plus). Also still getting used to the cable clutch, I was used to a hydraulic clutch before, but the bike is everything i need, and it turns in like a superbike, amazing
Hello, I ride a 2019 model XR I bought new in mai 2020, on a daily basis, for over 25k kms a year in my commute around Brussles and Antwerp. You catch it well when U say no other bike gives you so many smiles. On the other hand, you ride the bike like a GS, short shifting etc. I shift between 9 and 10 and cruise around 6000 rpm, so i have instant power when i need or would like it. My XR totally changes caracter over 7500 rpm. So I would suggest trying again when it is unlocked. Sadly the MXR is not suitable for my needs , because no luggage and shorter end gearing, so I will have to settle for the 'normal' S1000XR, when time comes to trade in mine. (has 100k kms now)
Thank you for watching and commenting. Short shifting was the only option as the limit was set at 7000, once run in it will be 14000 or there about! The pull though at the low revs is much, much harder than my R1250GS. As you say no panniers make it less attractive for touring and as such will keep my R1250GS when this arrives.
I'm with you, I'd upgrade my S1000XR to an M in a heartbeat if they offered luggage (bonus points if I could use the luggage I already have). It's a must have for me, while absolutely bonkers fast, this is a touring bike. If I'm going to carry everything on my back, I'd just take the S1000. I typically do ~200 miles on my rides, carrying something to eat, water, and more clothes is an absolute "must" for me. I've never even had the rear case off the bike since I bought it!
@@alpineacres8042 I have the small seat bag ordered, I think it will suffice for short tours (spare undies and a tooth brush) though will still with the 1250GS for bigger hauls.
@@FenTour If I didn't already have a S1000XR, I might do the same. I've gotten used to the space in the top case though now (and it is a very nice case, if a bit expensive), no way a tank bag would do it for me anymore. I did the full Akra/Brentune on my bike, it's so fast it's silly, but, like money, you can never be too rich or have a motorcycle too fast! ;) I'm hoping they'll add the bags at some point (the mounting points) back to the M variant. Until then, I'm just fine with keeping that money in the bank, I love my bike and don't need the temptation!
Cracking review I watched it twice today, fun to see you having a laugh and it looks like an incredible bike. I'll be test riding a 1300 soon but i'll be keen to try one of these out for size. Out of my price range for now though 😉
Cheers Jack, 1300 is super too but this is another level of excitement. Just wait until you are 58 and your children have left home then you will be able to have one easy!
Just traded my M1000R and my R1300GS for the Competition version of this, it’ll take the best of what I love about both of those bikes and give me just the one which will score me big time with the better half!
@@FenTour Indeed! Unfortunately most bikes are wasted and I'm 95% an urban rider having almost always lived in Paris or London before. I've owned 20 or more sports bikes, roadsters and trial bikes but I've hardly ever had as much fun as on the Livewire. I'd also like to test the Energica, probably Ego. But the solution would be to move to a greener place not change bikes for me.
It’s an expensive bike for a reason. You can tell by the component parts. Sadly some just can’t see it. It’s a cracking looking bike Fen. I am collecting my standard 24 XR on Friday! Nice review cheers.👍🏻
Is it possible so soften (or stiffen) the suspension in the various ride modes or are they all preset and locked? E.g. i can fully customise my Multistrada settings in each mode (e.g. touring mode suspension set to softest and soft, and sport to harder and hardest). I do know a couple of the modes on the M1000XR the suspension will automatically adapt to conditions, but is there also the option for me to adjust it? Thanks!
@@tbcthebikingchannel4601 I think you need a test ride. The Multistrada I tested was quite harsh even in the soft setting. The M1000XR is not harsh at all in the Road setting, and yet more than accurate for stable riding. I think the carbon wheels help considerably too. Cheers.
@@tbcthebikingchannel4601OK it’s raining so sadly reading the instruction manual. You will be pleased to hear that there are 14 x levels of damping available if you wish! However I have just left it on auto in road mode and it’s near perfect. (Now covered 350 miles)
