    Thanks for this video! I think I'll try changing the coolant without opening up the extra vents, I'll just change less of the coolant at more frequent intervals to keep up corrosion resistance. Here's a tip: put pieces of tape at the resting position of the wipet blades before you take them off so you can put them back where they were! Also the fact that you need to take off the bumper is ridiculous... I might take a sawzaw to it just because I dont want to put in all of these hours for simple preventative maintenance!

    Hi James, I’ll try to make this short as possible. I love your videos. My nearest dealership is 427 miles away. My towns population is 31,000. I’ve luckily located a mechanic that’s works on European cars in my town. 1. Just to let you know you don’t have to remove the front bumper. Once you remove the bottom protection shield at the bottom of the car. On the driver side there is a slot to remove and the coolant drains . Yep, that simple I watched him. 2. He stated he also will change Thermostat at the same time. So I researched it and it’s true we must change the thermostat every time we do a coolant flush. I purchased mine from Scuderia Car parts online delivered in 3 days by DHL. For 116.00 total tax, sh, and insurance fee. Ships from the UK

      Your car must not be an M157 and does not have the third cross member. Mine is M157, it has the 3rd cross member and you MUST remove the front bumper to get to the drain valve. You can barley even see the drain valve beyond the cross member let alone loosen it up. That is why they designed the access hole in that cross member. My Workshop manual does not mention the requirement of replacing the thermostat. And I consulted with a friend who is a Maserati Certified Service Technician before performing the work, and he also did not mention replacing the thermostat. He did mention I may may want to also change the Power steering coolant, but it was not required as it does not get near as hot as the engine coolant.

      Same type of fluid. as the coolant. But replacing it is not as important as the main coolant because it does not get as hot as the engine does. It is easy to replace though. You drain it by loosening up the coolant fitting on the Power steering cooler, allow it to drain and then refill.

      Thank you for your question. That is for the transmission fluid heat exchanger. I do not beleive it needs to be change as often as the engine coolant because the temps are not as high in the gear box as the engine. It should get changed if you have to remove the transmission though. I have sent an inquiry regarding this to my Maserati Tech friend and will update this when I have the informaton.

    • @JamesDIYGarage
      @JamesDIYGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@davis31b It's also the Power steering coolant system as well. It's pumped using a temperature controlled electric pump mounted in front of the engine. He says most people don't change it unless there is an issue with the transmission or power steering system requiring it to be removed and replaced, but he also says he does it during the coolant change. When I consulted with him on my coolant change, he did not mention the tranny/power steering cooling system. The Maserati Tech says the Transmission/Power Steering cooling system is totally separate from the main engine coolant system and uses the same coolant. If you want to change the coolant, you can drain the system from the coolant lines on the Transmission cooler mounted to the side of the transmission, and the power steering cooler mounted just in front of the engine, then fill it back up. It burps into the expansion tank. The clamps used by the Manufacturer can be replaced with high quality Norma Clamps. But for your case I would just fill it with the same coolant I use in my video. I may do a video in the future on replacing the coolant for this system. Since I don't have documentation on how to do it, I will need to do more research on it 1st.

    James, let me first thank you for all your teaching. I have learned and saved a tons of dollars by doing some of the Maintenance myself by following your instructional videos. they are great, and very clean step by step presentation. I do have a question for you. last year during my first oil change, I ordered the Pennzoil 5W-40 recommended by Ferrari 550040834 with the Ferrari logo on the bottom corner of the container. This year after I've ordered the oil again, the vendor (supplier) sent me the Pennzoil 550051120 which I noticed in your video. my question is: is that what you used in your Ghibli? after a phone call to Pennzoil, a rep told me that the mentioned part number wasn't formulated for our engine, and I rejected the oil. I would like to hear if you have noticed any changes or have noticed anything different while using this oil, I believe is made out of Natural Gas? please let me know what are your thoughts, as I still have the cases I purchased because Amazon didn't want them back after they refunded the money.
    Thank you in advance for your response,
