    I found this out yesterday and used most of evening and today morning to tinker system to do what I wanted. It was my first to ps2 modding/homebrew scene and used your tutorials to find software needed. Model I use is ps2 SCPH-90004 PAL with dvd player 3.11E that I had laying around. It wont support freemcboot so this was perfect change give ps2 homebrew a shot. If want run on SCPH 90000 series need use non hybrid ISO. Hybrid seems have compability issues currenrly. My current setup on it is booting to ulaunchelf using that dvd exploit then use it to load OPL that I got on sandisk cruzer blade pendrive with iso files. So far can say games loads surprisingly fast over USB 1.1 and and been installing like 20 titles both pal and ntsc version and all works though NTSC looks bit odd on my tv.

      Try playing games either from a disc or SMB if you want to mess around more, USB is actually the slowest of all methods. The fastest being SMB and internal HDD.

      @@MrMario2011 Interesting enough I had faster loading times from flashdrive than dvd most likely due seek time since usb flash drive wont need seek it finds data almost instantly. Noticed SMB and need make seperate share to my NAS for PS2 iso files because flashdrive I used for test is 16gb only. Do I need any special folder preparations to share other than DVD and cd folders like on usb?

      @@TasosKaraiskosVEVO SImple as it can be. First before starting boot PS2 without disk in drive. When it opens menu asking browser or system config press triangle on controller and check if dvd player version is 3.11 with any letter for example 3.11E or 3.11U. Then go to system settings and make sure got english language enabled. If both are true you are good to go. Then go to github.com/CTurt/FreeDVDBoot/tree/master/PREBUILT%20ISOs and download one matching your dvd player but DO NOT download hybrid iso. It wont work on 9xxxx models. If dvd drive is 3.11 download 3.11 only - all regions - English lang.iso if 3.10 download 3.10 only - all regions - English lang.iso etc. Then grab blank dvd-r disk and insert it burner. Burn it at lowest possible speed for example 4x with cdburnerxp and select seal/finish dvd. Now just pop it into dvd drive properly and turn on your ps2. It should boot to ulaunchelf. Now download github.com/ps2homebrew/Open-PS2-Loader and copy opl.elf to root of empty fat32 formatted usb drive. Pop it into first usb port on ps2 and navigate to device named mass and start elf. Now look if settings are as you want them and enable usb autostart from settings and configure smb share if you have any. Then pop usb back to pc and rip any of your own ps2 game dvd to iso format. After that you may need to copy dvd label from game disk which is usually slui. Now copy iso you ripped over to dvd folder on usb and start opl again. Now go to game settings and set gameID to label of dvd. Then save and try launch game.

As for playing from the actual PSX hardware you would either have to have a PSX dated before Nov 1995 to do the damaging swap method, or invest in a gold finger card for later models that still had the parallel port available

Therefore, I managed to get a PS2 network adapter and a IDE hard drive with an adequate capacity. One of my cousins had access to FMCB and later so did I. Later, I just simply slapped my hard drive to my PC and inject it with FHDB and "never looked back". Except that I usually look back so that I get myself informed about new developments on the homebrew scene. And I'm glad I do, because there's no telling when my old IDE hard drive dies too. "Cable", I guess XD. But damn, it's just great seeing so many exploits for the PS2 in such a short period of time! Here in Brazil, well, we don't actually need something like this when getting a PS2, since pretty much every console you come across has a modchip of some kind installed on it already. And that was a good thing for me, because I have a dead PS1 and a handful of "backups" for it that I now am able to play on the PS2 I bought just last year with a cloned DMS4 Lite. I managed to burn a CD with uLaunchELF and install FMCB on a memory card without issues, but I only play PS2 games through that method. I really wished someone managed to find a way of playing PS1 games through "true" backwards compatibility on a PS2 outside of the disc drive. POPStarter really is not that great for doing so. I'm playing all my 20+ year old PS1 games and also burned some others, and I'm amazed how great the games run on that PS2, but I really don't know how much that laser will last playing these types of media, so, if someone managed to unlock true backwards compatibility, *that* I would consider a great achievement!

      @@MrMario2011 Yeah, and now games are getting even more expensive. It was R$250 some time ago, but now it's going up to R$300 with the new generation... Doing a straight dollar conversion, that does come out somewhat cheaper than the current $60 most countries would pay, but considering an average workers minimum wage is around R$1200 here, there's just not enough "will" for getting games the legitimate way.

    i basically saw this as and easy way to load freemcboot onto a card without having to buy an already "prepared" memory card by means of this disc (freedvdboot) and a usb at its current state (should you have a slim ps2).

      Currently only the Slim DVD-Players have been exploited, but the vulnerability is likely there on the first versions.

    • @brngrofdeth

      As far as I know, the internals of a PS3 for backward compatible models are actually emulated and do not contain actual PS2 hardware. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @VengefulNonsense
      @VengefulNonsense 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@brngrofdeth I was under the impression that early PS3s had some PS2 chips in them. These chips were removed either to cut costs or to force gamers to rebuy their PS2 games through the PSN store. The removal of these chips made backward compatibility impossible. I could be wrong as well but this is what I've heard.

I noticed you used some of my songs (soul slavocracy) on your old uploads, just wanted to say feel free to use any of the royalty free content on my channel in your future videos if you'd like to! Glad your channel is doing so well, keep up the good work man. I'll be uploading a lot more royalty free songs very soon, it just takes awhile to render/upload heh.
