For anyone who is having trouble copying the OPL ELF file into the boot folder, make sure you manually delete all of the old game saves off of the memory card. I was stuck on this for a few minutes, and the memory card was still full of previous saves

I am a complete rookie at all of this and do not understand half of what you are saying, but the steps are so clear and detailed that it's almost impossible to mess it up. I ran into one problem though, the my PS2 keeps saying "Unable to read disc Error." Now I have a Fat/Phat Ps2, and it should work because FreeMCBoot says that the 2.10 ISO is compatible with my particular PS2 Phat and DVD model. What have I missed?
I already have my first ever fat ps2 (SCPH-3900X) that i owned since 2004 which already has free mcboot and OPL with a 500gb SATA hdd, so i didnt need to worry about my dvd player not being compatible anyway
Ive burned freeDVDboot to 5 dvds now with different programs (IMGBurn, CDBurnerXP, Default windows burner, etc.) And they all say "Disc read error." I would say it's either a problem with my blank discs or my ps2 itself but if you have any idea of what I can do to fix it I would appreciate it.

@panewa3810 so, my ps2 broke down completely but if I remember correctly, I had to find an old version of free mcboot and install that. Make sure the boot elf files are on the root!
FreeMCboot hasn't been patched on 9000x models, Sony just disabled the feature to update the PS2 system files using the Memory Card. A modchip will reenable this feature on a 9000x model, and alow you to boot homebrew off the Slot 1 MC.
i put in the disc i made but it gives me the red screen of death... i have the usb the mem card the disc i have everything but it doesnt work it doesnt show as a dvd video too
I hope this help someone. I'm with a fat PS2 - 39001, DVD Player 2.12 . Once you get on the FreeDVDMenu (the gray one) and executes FReemcboot's .elf if you got a blackscreen, try to unplug the USB driver and put it in back. That solved the thing for me.
Why don't you put opl in the apps folder of free mcboot when making the usb for installing freemcboot so it will put it on the memory card automatically?

Me 3 same issue...70004 3.10E 2.00...think its the 1st slimline version that came out. Tried DVD-R/+R and -RW all the same outcome. Before black screen there is a flicker for split second then black screen. My PS2 is hardly used. Just took it out for the novelty of it and to mod of course as all my other consoles/handhelds are modded as well. Wonder if its PAL or NTSC related issue. Mine is PAL so don't know. Further I tried multiple writes with different settings, writers and disks...well all my disks are piling up now lol. Oh and lastly I tried different cables- component and composite. Maybe there will be an update later once the issue becomes more widespread.
Ok so I got the boot screen of FreeDVDBoot...download the ISO specific for your version. In my case 3.10E and not all versions, regions et. www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9653 and go to older versions you will get it there. It booted from a DVD-RW ...good luck!
I did everything but both of my PSP Slim 1 is a 5000 series and 1 is a 7000 Series Both say they can not read Disc. Ever disc I make. Is there a way to do this with bypassing the Disc

hey what sort of DVD do I need to make the PS2 display my DVD as DVD Video? I've done this on a DVD-R and I left the Verify option checked seen in 12:06, which you haven't emphasized that we should leave it unchecked. When I burned the DVD and plugged it into my PS2, it just gets stuck on Reading Disc... is it because of my ImgBurn settings or the type of the DVD? I have an SCPH-75004 with the DVD Player version of 3.11E but I really don't know what I should do. I also set the reading speed to 4x. I burned the latest possible prebuilt iso that is compatible with all PS2 Slim models.
DVD-R seems to be the best option. Burn it slow, set the language to English on the menu, and also try to play an actual DVD movie you might have on there before to make sure it is properly initialized.
alright I found out what caused the never-ending Reading Disc... issue, turns out there wasn't really a physical connection between the console's disc reading laser and the disc itself. I found a very cheap solution by putting something small and heavy to the top left hand side of the disc tray cover and I quickly installed freemcboot afterwards.

They are new discs I bought today, completely dust free and burned at x3, so I can't figure out what's going wrong. Is there are type of DVD you should use? The store I got mine at only had DVD+RW (which I only found out after opening the package since the front said DVD-R, annoyingly). Do you know of that is the problem here? I've read a few forums stating that they didn't have any problems with using that format, so I'm kinda stumped.

Hey man, I managed to install fmc on my ps2 slim but I wanted to try my memory card on a ps2 phat but fmc doesn't load and doesn't show the splash screen. Am I supposed to do the installation again even if my memory card has a working fmc install? I have a model 30004 with 1.20E dvd drive
I have a problem where the ps2 wouldn't recognize the free dvd boot disc ( Cant read disc) but it would read any other game. I tried to burn the iso to two different DVD-R discs, one of them barely spins then stops the other spins but I get the cant read disc error😞
For anyone who can run DVD’s but gets a “unable to read disc” error on boot try burning the disc with CDBurnerXP instead of imgBurn or Windows. Fixed the issue for me, hope this helps anyone who gets stuck with this problem

Some bootled memory card from china are doing great and manies are coming already with FreeMCBoot
I've personally had bad luck with them, as have many others, when installing FreeMCBoot. However they've worked well enough for Fortuna!

Hey man, I managed to install fmc on my ps2 slim but I wanted to try my memory card on a ps2 phat but fmc doesn't load and doesn't show the splash screen. Am I supposed to do the installation again even if my memory card has a working fmc install? I have a model 30004 with 1.20E dvd drive

I have a problem where the ps2 wouldn't recognize the free dvd boot disc ( Cant read disc) but it would read any other game.
I tried to burn the iso to two different DVD-R discs, one of them barely spins then stops the other spins but I get the cant read disc error😞
So i have opl games and did opl manager my game still wont show up from my usb
The good thing about consoles that use memory cards is if you mess up you don’t lose all your memories
For anyone who can run DVD’s but gets a “unable to read disc” error on boot try burning the disc with CDBurnerXP instead of imgBurn or Windows. Fixed the issue for me, hope this helps anyone who gets stuck with this problem
Had same issue.....Wasted 10 or so dvds of various brands and tried multiple different software and nothing worked till i tried this! Your awesome!

edit: i used DVD-R, burned it on CDBurnerXP, worked perfectly
Didnt't work for me after trying DVD-R of various brands and my PS2 can read other DVD so time to get buy a memorycard and clone it
Ah I've been waiting for this one since hearing about the DVD exploit! Love the videos man, I've got a few friends who've been intimidated by modding and I've turned them on to your guides these are an invaluable resource! Sure there are plenty of guides out there, but you da very best that no one ever was.
