Love Pablo. He taught me a great dive when I was 13, and it helped me qualify for the 1992 Olympic Trials in this event. 🙌🏻

PABLO MORALES (B: 12/5/64-)He was second in the 100m butterfly at the 1984 Olympics, where he was favored to win. In 1986, he set the world record in the 100m fly, which stands to this day. Then in 1988, Morales unexpectedly did not make the Olympic team, finishing third in two events. He retired from swimming to attend law school at Cornell University. In the summer of 1991, he returned to the pool and went on to win Olympic gold medals in the 100m butterfly and the medley relay. He was named the 1992 U.S. Olympic Committee's SportsMan of the Year.

Watching Gross in 1984 winning in both freestyle and butterfly makes me wonder what would have happened had he tried to do the individual medley. When Phelps first hit the scene he was mainly known as a butterflier, but as time wore on he became more proficient in all four strokes and became the greatest swimmer of his era. It would have been interesting seeing Gross add backstroke and breastroke to his repertoire and seeing how proficient he would have been.

This is one of those comments by people who try to look as if they knew anything but are incredibly wrong..
Phelps as an age grouper was always a butterflyer/IMer breaking age group records in both disciplines since he was young

@@luispastor8089 dude, I was just thinking about how it might have been if he did try the medley. Gross was a great swimmer in his specialties and all I said was that it would have been interesting to see if he could have pulled it off.

Most freestylers are also good in butterfly. Gross, Phelps, Dressel, Manaudou, ... Freestyle and butterfly have the same mechanics and are similar strokes. Back stroke and breast stroke are completely different.

I had seen this in the middle of the night on german TV.
I kept my fingers crossed for Michael Gross. As a german kid i was very sure that Michael Gross would win the gold medal.Very soon i couldnt believe my eyes. This small guy was on the way to beat Michael Gross the german swim legend!I had changed my mind during this race.I had hoped and expected Pablo Morales to win... unfortunately
    Michael got the gold medal.
I am saying that as a german!
