    Hi Henry, I thought you were onto the problem with the master being replaced. It would appear you have replaced all of the hydraulics, so the issue has to be mechanical, as you say.
    Not being able to engage or change gears is classic of clutch drag. I have had these exact symptoms before where it turns out to be the friction plate in the clutch breaking up. The broken pieces then wedge against the pressure plate meaning the clutch will never fully disengage.
    Looks like a gearbox out job I'm afraid, but judging by the whinning from the release bearing, it is overdue a change anyway.

      Hi Carsten, yeah. That's what I'm figuring. I've just been putting every reason I can think of to avoid doing this

    Henry have you checked the hole for the clevis pin in the actuating rod to the pedal hasn't worn oval or that the pin itself isn't waisted where it threads through? This can lose you a lot of travel at the clutch actuating arm and is a common issue on high mileage cars.

      Yeah, I had that issue with the MGB but it is good on the Stag

    Hi Henry, I noticed that your clutch fluid reservoir is mounted higher than before you took it off, probably due to a longer piece of new hose fitted between it and the master clutch cylinder. It looks like it's sitting about 1/2" higher and I was concerned that it may foul the bonnet in the closed position or there again it may not be an issue and all's well lol🤓 Hope you soon get the clutch sorted, take care👍

      Thanks Hawkmoon, I saw that and had the same concern so I tested the bonnet to be sure it was ok

    My dads is doing exactly the same as yours. One min the gears are fine then they won’t play. Taking the gearbox off tomorrow as I suspect it’s the clutch and thrust bearing.

      Tell me how it's done Doug. I'm just loading a new episode for tomorrow morning and I cannot get the exhaust off (bolts are off but exhaust stuck)

      @@HenrysGarage hey Henry, thought I would give u an update on my dads. It was having the same symptoms as yours, I have taken the box out and found the first gear synchro and reverse gear are both broken so now in search of new ones. Good luck!

      @@Sorted7 Good info Doug, I think mine is just a wrecked bearing in the end. I need to find the time to put it together

    Hi Henry, after your road test, do you have the same amount of movement at the gearbox?

    • @HenrysGarage
      @HenrysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBH Wayne, I was so frustrated when I got back and it wasn't fixed, the paint was lucky not to be keyed. I didn't check but I'll take a look. Will be interesting to see

    • @waynebrannan4778
      @waynebrannan4778 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah , if its the same movement then the clutch itself maybe at fault... release bearing issue... if movement is less then you've got Ir trapped in the system

    your release bearing is toast.

    Henry, if you are a member of the Stag Owners Club it could be helpful to have a word with the technical advice Co-ordinator Mike Allen. He may be able to help. Good luck Bob

    If it were any other car I'd say just replace the clutch...but it's a Stag, so it's not that simple...or cheap!

    • @HenrysGarage
      @HenrysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      So what would you suggest instead?

      I truly have no idea...it's got me stumped too but I definitely think you're on the right track by going through the individual clutch components.
      However by doing so you seem to be eliminating all but the really expensive bits!
      I truly hope it's nothing too serious. She's a beautiful car, and you need to enjoy actually DRIVING her while the weather is still half decent.
      Does anyone have any advice on any of the Stag Facebook groups perhaps? I'm probably grasping at straws here, but you can't be the only Stag owner who's had this issue.
