Have watched this about 5 times to help with getting mine apart, so thanks for all the details!

One part ready to go back on when assembly begins one day. I found that a small 5 or 6 liter ultrasonic cleaner did wonders for cleaning inside and outside of small parts.

I've looked at them, but not seriously. Maybe I should with this rebuild. What do you use as you cleaning solvent?

@@roundtailrestoration I have used diluted purple power or similar degreaser to fill the tank. I have used smaller glass or plastic containers floated in the tank and filled with carb cleaner for more stubborn to clean parts. The ultrasonic vibration passes right through the floating containers. Hope that helps.

I worked for Girling from 1976 till I left in 2004, to start my own engineering business, some of my biggest customers are the companies that bought the various departments after Lucas was broken up after it's acquisition by Varity in 1996, I was actually in the Pontypool factory where this cylinder was made yesterday!

Wow, that's really cool. I thought Girling morphed into TRW? It appears that's how they are sold in the market as OEM equivalent. Does Varity own TRW or some subsidiary? Thanks for watching!

WOW I just priced some sheet metal here in Alaska its the same cost as you I find that surprising.

Yes, I'd expect you guys to be more expensive. I'm limited in my choices where I'm located, however, so I didn't have much choice on the price. Definitely cheaper in a larger sheet (per unit), that's for sure.

@@roundtailrestoration ya same here we are limited. having things shipped here is very expensive. I have been using old TR3 hoods for sheet metal on my TR3.

@@mikestrang6229 Ha! I did the same on the Spitfire - used the old boot lid.

I was hoping for better than that. If this was baseball, I guess I'd be happy!
