I used this method on my pipe. It's an early Bassani down pipe on a 1971 Bultaco 125. It was crushed up pretty much and now it's nice and fat almost like new!
Fantastic to hear! glad it worked for you! enjoy your restored performance!
Very cool. I know that some pipes are made with explosive forming (the videos are great), but this is a much more subtle way. That's really great.
thanks! The explosive forming is pretty damn cool for sure.
Great fucking idea on making your own kit. I was going to order one on eBay for a hundred bucks but I have everything I need in my shop to make that.
super happy to help save you some hard earned coin! I always try to make due if i can, before i buy. That oughta earn us a subscribe? XD thanks for watching and commenting!
New sub here. Great vid! When i did my pipe repair i used a 12v car air compressor that stayed threaded on the valve stem and showed current pressure on the guage. Pumped up to 40-50 and the heat bumped that upto 60-70. I didnt let it any more then that
thats actually a great idea! thanks for subbing + sharing! and welcome to the pirates!
Awesome video!! May I suggest you make a video on how to find leaks in the pipe and repair procedures
I can certainly do that. when I have a pipe that has a leak, Ill film how i figure it all out. Thanks for the props, Thanks for watching! Feel free to check out some of our other content! you might like it!
Cork the ends with air pressure inside, dip in a tub of water or brush with a soapy solution. Mark the areas for welding.
@@AlbertaMountainPirates May 2024, just checked the AMP YT site and don't see a video for leak checking or welding pipes. Did you do one (or more)?
@@ljprep6250 i did not. I havent had a pipe with that kind of damage since i made this video(thankfully.. LOL ) But heres a quick tip for you. >> Basically, if you cant visually see a hole or a crack, follow the procedure in this video, And when you fill it up, and heat it, You will likey hear air escaping, and you may see a small bit of oil begin to develop on the outside where the suspected hole would be. be sure to mark it, Let the pipe cool, and then remove any air in there safely. >>>Once you have the pipe marked and it can be handled, Get yourself a brazing torch ( i use an oxy mapp torch) and fix the hole using brazing. Its much better than welding and will be less hassle and cause less damage to the existing material. Brazing can take a bit of practice, and the upfront cost is certainly a bit of an investment, And the oxygen bottles dont last very long, So you should work as quickly as you can safely. You may also want to practice on another piece of metal that is less imprtant, But a similar thickness so you get the feel for it, Because a brazing torch can easily melt the stainless to a puddle causing a huge hole if you are careless. Hope this helps!
Cool idea. I thought of using heat and air pressure. But not like the way you did! Excellent !!!!!
Thanks 👍 Its a crucial skill to have when riding 2 strokes
Love how that was done
Thanks for watching! hope it helped!
I dont really subscribe to anyone, but you took alot of time to make and show this and I like your style.. I hope you hit 300 subscribers now also!!...Thank you
Thanks john! That means alot! i really appreaciate that!
We have just officially hit 301 Subs!
Thanks you all! lotsss more goodies coming!
Thanks for this video..
I'll try this at home for my Kawasaki Ninja 150 exhaust pipe. 👍
no problem! Happy to help! let me know how it works for ya!
awesome work bud 👌
hey thanks! i really appreaciate that! thx for tuning in!
Very helpful vidro
Thanks! Glad i could help you out! Hope it saved you some cash!
Awesome!
thanks m8!
What do you think of the pressure washer method to fix dents
personally havent tried it, but have seen it. I feel like, Heat makes metal malleable. Cold doesnt. i prefer to use heat if possible, But im sure there are some situations where the pressure washer or freezing works better
Dude. Thanks for sharing this awesome skills. Do you use regular “air” compressor to fill the pipes?
Happy to help! And yep! just a regular compressor! I keep it turned up to the max! The tricky part is creating an airtight seal.
I learned something new..thanks!
Glad to hear! and happy to help! Hopefully this will get you back to full performance!
Thanks for watching!
Simple eh...brilliant 👍👍🇬🇧
Thanks for checking it out and taking the time to comment! Hope it serves you well!
brilliant vid bro never seen this done before
well thanks. sometimes you have too get creative to solve problems
Nice idea! Quick and easy if you have access to the correct tools and a welder lol, but still good video
to be fair, In my circles, Everyone has a welder, So its not uncommon. But i guess its nit like that everywhere XD
I guess its wise to keep your dented pipes and have it fixed instead of buying new..Great Job khaos Bikes..
very much so! Thanks for the props!
Nice video 🤙🏽
Thanks 💯
Am learning
happy to help! Thx for watching!
Can you fix bent pipes as well or just dents?
Depends on the damage. Sometimes bent pipes are repairable, Sometimes they are not. Twists at the header are very challenging to fix, And often it becomes a case of Lets just make it work, Rather than make it look l like new. All depends on the damage like i said. The pressure washer method has better success but a higher chance of damaging or exploding the pipe making the problem worse. Hence why i stick to the heat method. Pipes heat and cool as part of their job, So heating and cooling is less likely to damage it than cold water forcing it
Will this work on steel pipes like a KDX?
Yes absolutely it will. Just make sure the bracket you create seals very well on the ends. The pressure will build very high. Let us know how it goes!
Great video
thanks for watching!
Thanks for the Vid great work my 2021 Sherco 300 se pipe is beaten to death
no worries. Thanks for the props! If you are local, I am willing to have a look for sure.
What type of torch are you using, and is that propane?
I put 90 psi to my pipe, and it's very hard to heat the pipe and take dents out.
I think I need something that transfer a lot of heat.
you will need one of the torches that works with map and propane and has a curly tornado style flame. But propane works fine.
Does it leave discoloration on a nickel plated pipe? Or does that easily buff out?
its unlikely the color would come out. Most if not all pipes will discolor. This is more about restoring performance than anything else.
@@AlbertaMountainPirates thx
@@madmarc no worries. happy to help
Is that just a standard propane torch?
yep the one with the cyclone flame
I do the same with my pipes. Biggest issue I have right now is guys bringing me their pipes back after I've blown them out saying it's not lining up. The pipe gets bent most of the time. Using water pressure allows the pipe to bend back into shape
certainly an issue. As i mentioned, the risk for the pipes getting damaged is higher using ice. If using water, It would be advisable to use a pressure washer. But hey, Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I'd want the whole bike. That way you are fitting the pipe back on. That gives you the opportunity to fit even though it may be a bad fit and tight to line up. But get it on and heat it up in a couple of the right places. It will lose all its tension and settle back into place. It doesn't take a lot of heat just get it hot not glowing. I've weld repaired plenty of them. That was best way I found to finalise repair work. Once it cools remove and refit to make sure it's easy back to a snug fit.
@@tonymarshall9670 for sure! IO always ask folks who are picking up to bring the bike Most times they dont though.
awesome video! water would be safer. them fittings were brilliant
thanks! it may be safer, although this with some foresight is relatively safe. Thanks for watching
What material is the pipe made from?
stainless steel!
Very nice!
thanks!
Awesome dude
Thanks 😁. its a very useful skill! Hope it helps!
Dents r easy. Do you have a video on 2 holes and muffler part alignment ? I am having problems there cant get all of them . THx
I dont. I may be able.to make one. The holes can be sealed with a brazing torch. The rest should fall into place with the correct pressure and heat
Very cool
thanks for watching. Hope it helps you !
How are you supposed to plug the spooge hole on the pipe?
The spooge hole? As in the smaller end of the pipe? It doesnt get plugged per se, You must add a valve to it to fill the pipe with air!
Video on how to make this tool??
I just rewatched the video and i explain how it is built, and how it works. I am not sure what more you would require on how to make it? i can answer questions if you have them, But i feel like making another video explaining the same thing may not be a good use of my time at this moment. I am swamped trying to keep the content coming
I would highly suggest watching the video again, and pausing when i show the tool at angles so you understand how its built. its really not complicated.
Again any questions, ill happily answer.
thanks for watching
I was just meaning like a separate video of you making it pretty much. But yes your right. I can definitely look and take what you explained from this video alone and do it. Thanks for the great content!
@@Phukeett no worries thanks for watching! Feel free to ask if you have any other questions, Or suggestions for stuff you would like to see!
If i can add some advice? I've done many many bikes myself and like i said im not telling you what to do but i think you're using to much heat and not enough air pressure. As hot as your getting the pipe its going to take away the temper making the pipe more susceptible to bending again and easier. Ive done the same thing and trust me please, less heat and higher air pressure.
Thanks for the tips! Thanks for watching!@
100% more air mate!
Maybe a haircut for safety😂🇦🇺
Hey, that’s a good helpful tip Thank you.
Possible to repair other parts with same technique
i dont think so
Awesome
Thanks! Its a super useful little trick to save some serious money! Much cheaper than a new exhust
Espectacular
Gracias!
Isn't there a risk of explosion ?
I mean the oils inside + air and heat ?
I saw videos of pipes exploding
yes of course. Usually when following the basic precautions such as not pressurizing it past 80, Wearing protective gear, and ensuring things are tight it works just fine. Usually when things go wrong it involves the bracket or the stopper failing, I have had several instances of the plug failing and disintegrating
I blew the dents out of numerous pipes similar to the procedure in the video. One day while blowing out dents and without warning, the pipe exploded, blowing parts and metal in every direction. I was very lucky not to be injured. That was the last pipe I repaired.
i may do a video detailing how i made the clamps basedon a request. Will add it to my list. Things are VERY busy this time of year, and editing takes a lot of time. plzs bare with me
Dam i tried but the cork at the end Just keeps on shoting out when i heat it up
you really have to make sure the brackets fit well and can be tightened down very solid. Washers work in most cases to add more purchase, Or in some cases, you could use a piece of tie wire to help hold the bracket in place if your seal is decent. but not every pipe will support the tie wire.. To be fair, it certainly takes some practice and trial and error to get it just right. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Im happy to try to help you get it working
@@AlbertaMountainPirates ye i got it fixed um but small dents didnt get out.
the dent in the pipe on the engine side is alredy there from factory?
@@2smokes it may be yes. many have that
small dents arent super important
@@AlbertaMountainPirates alr thanks
Using an oxy/acetlyn torch with a nice carburized flame would be more precise and get it hot enough much quicker
What is a cotterized flame? ive never heard of that before? Id certainly be interested in grabbing one. Thanks for watching
Its just the cone in the flame from your torch.. there are many different tips that you can get for oxy-acetylene setups that you can use for either heating or cutting you can use the cutting tips without cutting anything you just wouldn't hit the oxygen lever so it wouldn't blow through is often how I would bend seal Channel whenever I was making these shoes for vacuum lifting pipe. I could stop most of the defamation of the center of the seal Channel by heating up just the sides of it and allowing it to be bent a lot easier and faster as well if you have a oxy-acetylene setup you could probably use any tip you had as far as that goes you can literally heat up that little tiny creased Bend and it get it hot super fast allowing it to pop out really easy but not getting everything smoking hot. I sure hope that helped a little bit I am not the greatest at explaining things sometimes
So my apologies it's not cauterize it is carburized LOL and here's a link to the video that might help you a little bit understand better cuz I don't feel like I was too good at explaining it to you th-cam.com/video/ictB6GZChYM/w-d-xo.html
@2strokes R better than 4 it did help thanks and no i dont have oxy acet setup
what do you charge for this
$65 for a basic repair with no welds. if its busted open it will cost closer to 100 bucks. Thanks for watching
Maybe just use a plumber's expansion plug.
what is that? If its better than what im using im all over it!
We would fill them with water back in the 90s that pipe looks dead I can only imagine the state of the bike.
I dont often get to see the clients bikes, Just the pipes, But yep Imagine haha
What kind of torch gun do you use or gas wise?please
just a regular propane/map gas torch head with the curly flame and regular camping propane! No special torch required
Ok thank you
@@ralphzavala8757 no worries
Fill it with water and freeze
no thanks! i much prefer heat
what happend to ur hair mine gets ichy in a few days
@@jamesbrooks5442 what does this have to do with the video
Terrible option water pressure much safer
Unfortunately its not. But you are entitled to your wrong opinion
Does the bluing polish out on this chrome pipes?
ive never tired but i doubt it
