    I love my regular Burke Marx’s, I will be getting my variegated soon. Love the wonky plant on how it grows. I do recommend it. Very easy plant

    I received a 1 leaf variegated rooted cutting in early December it is now 15 leaves with over half or more of them variegated.
    I like you leave the green leaves on just for photosynthesis sake.
    So for my brief time, it is a vigorous beautiful grower. It does grow a little differently than upright philodendrons.

    I absolutely love these long term update videos - I’d be interested in seeing more! I’m a new subscriber & have found your channel to be so educational.
    I bought an unrooted cutting online and rooted in water about 4 months ago. It rooted fairly quickly & is currently in Lechuza Cube 14 with Pon. Just got my first new leaf & already has two more growth points!

    This is definitely one of the easiest plants to care for and love seeing what each new leaf will be like. I have had mine for 3 months which started as a 2 leaf rooted cutting with the start of a new growth point costing £25. Since then it has grown another complete stem, which looks like an apple green & white striped straw, with 3 new leaves that are incredibly variegated. It is in a half-pint plastic cup in sphagnum moss and pumice and placed inside another plastic cup as a semi-hydroponic set up. I would recommend this plant wholeheartedly. I was gobsmacked to see the size of your mother plant as I really didn't realise they could even achieve that size indoors, so well done Memo 👏👏

      awww glad to see that it is not just mine that grows like mad and yes fully agree love those striped stems for sure,

    Great review! I originally found your channel a few weeks ago because I was researching care videos for this plant. Now I finally bought my own! It was $65 for 4 leaves fully rooted in soil. 2 leaves are variegated and 2 green. I just got it in the mail a few days ago but I'm so so excited to watch it grow! :D

      Awwww that is awesome and i hope it thrives in your care ☺🍀🙌 price is on par to what i paid for it when i got it I think. I found mine took a beat before it got going, but when it did Watch out!

    Bought as a rooted chonk, roots rotted, but we are on the way now with the teeniest tiniest baby leaves. This is a wish list plant, so let’s hope for the best! Thanks for the review and the discussion of variable variegation.

    I had root rot on my variegated BM in no drainage recently so I placed it into a recycled see through cup with drainage and it is thriving again. I hope it trails down like my normal green one. So bushy with minimal effort/propagation

    I think not cutting away the non-variegated portion is also a matter of respect for the plant. Each plant is unique and there is no beautiful or ugly when you have chosen a plant that you want to grow. The plant remains unique even with a few green leaves and stands out even so from a non-variegated species. Good review, as always.

  • @karenferris149

    Very nice to hear your experience with this plant and especially seeing your mature plant in the back as an ‘after’ picture 😄
    I received an unrooted cutting with two leaves in mid-November last year and placed it directly into pon -in a prop box on top of a heat mat and under bright light. Ended up cutting off the leaves because they were wilting in late December and i thought if I chopped them it would benefit the rooting process (but no drastic changes or benefits were obvious).
    I am starting to see tiny roots now and I’m more patient after hearing from you and others that it does take a bit of time ( in addition to it being winter and a dormancy period.. and I live in Norway) before it kicks off. Another person said she would water propagate this type first before placing in pon, but I guess different things work differently depending on the person and environment.
    I am really enjoying your insta and TH-cam videos, you are very pleasant to listen to and you explain things well 👏🏻 -Karen

    • @laurenervin1404
      @laurenervin1404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Karen👋 So this is something that I'm hearing more and more about Pon (except for hoyas) that it is better to root philos and anthurium in water or sphagnum, or even perlite and THEN move it to Pon when the roots have grown out a little bit. I can't say this from personal experience as I'm just now trying Pon out myself, but I've definitely heard this from a number of TH-camrs and plant friends recently🤷 good luck!!💚

      Awww thank you so much, i am so glad you are enjoying, it really makes the effort with the videos worth it 🙏☺
      yeah it can take a while to get going, so if you are good with patience, just give it a bit of time, you will see it will get going.

    Loved mine, however after 12 months the fully reverted leaves had taken over. Chopped my plant up (was roughly a metre tall, multiple stems) into 40+ single node cuttings which I’m currently rooting out in a prop box with spaghnum - let’s see how we go!

    I have one. I received it in the mail and it was much bigger than what I thought I purchased. It is a vigorous grower, unfussy and forgiving. Today I had to transfer from the pot in which there were more roots than soil. I've transferred to pon. Let's see how he adjusts.

    I spent 70$ on a node wet stick I waited 3 months for . Took care of it looked at it everyday. It’s all green ! I did contact the seller who told me to wait and have patience which I did . Then I contacted her again months later and she told me it had been too long 😕I bought a second that was vary small but beautiful variegation!
    Don’t buy sticks because you really want to see that variegation . The variegated version is more delicate. I still wonder of the first one will ever show any variegation. Tfs

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ohhhh thanks for sharing your expience, yeah sadly wet sticks can be a bit of a gamble, especially with variegated plants, but glad you got the second one. The Green one is beautiful too however.
      Do let us know if the green one pops out any variegation, definitely will be trying it this summer with some propagations.

    i bought a regular green one a couple of years ago as a cutting, its had some irregular growth spurts but nothing stellar, its leaves have been a bit tucked under of late,i thought i was doing it a favour keeping it a bit root bound as iv'e heard aroids like that but i repotted it on monday and it was grossly/insanely/comprehensively rootbound! with any luck it will take off in a few months although i don't have the room for one the size of your colosal beast😯. Anyway thanks for the great video they are much appreciated👍

    • @laurenervin1404
      @laurenervin1404 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yea, I actually had a similar experience when I bought my regular green one. It was also a cutting ( but a pretty large one) and it just did NOTHING for about 7 months! I think I had gotten just one tiny leaf and one leaf that was a bit larger at that point. It was in sphag at that point so I finally put it into soil. Id say it took another 2 months before it finally TOOK OFF. I'll have had it for 2 years in a couple months and its now a really bushy plant that's constantly putting out new leaves AND new shoots! Just took a lot longer than I thought🤷

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awww thanks for sharing your experience, yeah this ones roots can be insane. I am dreading when I have to repot mine 😬😬😬😅😅😅😅
      I can see Lauren has also had a similar experience to both of us, i think they just take a beat to get established and get going, but when they do, just wow.

    • @jonathonpotts5666
      @jonathonpotts5666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its good to have a mixture of patience plants and fast wham bam plants, you will have to have a reward lined up for when you repot as a motivation, when i repot my big monstera i'll be happy enough if the floor joists don't snap!

    East Coast USA reporting here. Bought a 8 leaf plant about a year ago ($100) and I agree that this plant is a vigorous grower. I usually have 3-4 growth points actively growing each time.i don't know if it's due to my watering habits but it seems to grow in waves.
    I agree that this plant is a medium light plant, I have it under grow lights and it seems to do fine although the parts closest tend to burn a little.
    One additional note is that mine seems to produce extrafloral nectaries like crazy and I'm hoping that the green lacewings really take to them for the adult stage to feed on, but that is yet to be seen.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is so interesting, this is one of my philos that never gets extra floral nectaries. so cool to see plants responding differently to different environments, thanks for sharing your experience/review too, it helps to give a fuller picture ☺🙌

    Hello, question please, do you think because your cuttings are planted in PON, is the reason for the slower growth versus soil mixture? What do you think? Love your videos!! 💜

  • @karenkrosnick8725
    @karenkrosnick8725 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To propagate this plant, do you 'cure' the cutting for a week, i.e. let it sit out on the counter? This doesn't sound right to me, but i wanted your opinion please.

    I have a green version and it does not grow for me. I think in the year I've had it, I've gotten 3 leaves. It's in a South window, airy mix and puts out little stems that look like it might become a leave and never does.

    • @Houseplantygoodness
      @Houseplantygoodness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm that is a bit odd, going on one of the other comments on here, have you checked to see if it is maybe rootbound? sometimes they dont get many leaves as they are growing roots and you go to check the roots and it needs repotting.
