My green Burle Marx is a beast. It’s grown so big it’s out of control. My variegated one is very slow growing but it’s so pretty. I’m enjoying watching them grow.
My Burle Marx has grown so big that I’m overwhelmed to where to start to cut and prune! It’s vining and growing aerial roots like crazy it’s like a mutation upon mutation… 😅
Don't give up! As long as the cutting doesn't rot and the water isn't gross there's hope. I've had some cuttings take MONTHS to finally do something. :)
That video reassured me, I got a P. Burle Marx variegata cutting last spring from somebody who obviously clones their plant a lot and seeing how it grew made me wonder if the plant was acting up because of high stress or something. I've now repotted it into a 6 inch pot and it's growing like a beast, its leaves are getting bigger and I chose my specimen well as it's almost 50/50 green and yellow and very stable even though it'll pop a 100% green (or lime/yellow) leaf once in a while. I'm not that much into variegated plants either but this one is a stunner, with variegation ranging from lime to yellow and nearly white all on the same plant! On a side note, I grow about thirty different Philodendron species and cultivars and ''Splendid'' is also one of my favourites. It's gorgeous, its leaves are getting big quite quickly, never had any pests, it's super easy to grow, it's vigorous and it seems to do well no matter what it's conditions are. I've kept mine in a very small pot for too long and it was still doing great. Recently chopped and prop'ed it as I feel like it's a very rewarding plant, so I'll be giving out a few of them on Christmas!
I got mine expecting it to be more of a bushy plant, but though it has that same growth pattern you are seeing it clearly wanted something to climb. I added a moss pole a few months ago and it is thriving! I still see at least one new growth point (usually 2 or 3) next to every new leaf, and it rooted into the moss pole easily. Definitely one of my unexpected favorites! It looks so nice with the moss pole and stays bushy and full.
Omg my burle Marx is a spaz too!! It don't give AF, it will grow out of a leaf growing out of a new leaf , coming out of a unfurled leaf growing out of a stem out of a stem coming out of a Arial root growing out of a 1 inch plant lol
I put mine on a moss pole, the weird growing pattern gets even weirder ans easier to see. The plant produced crazy amount of root growth and climbed everywhere. The pole is very bushy thanks to the unic pattern of growth.
I also love mine. Its variegated with a lot of green leaves as well. Thinking of trimming it down but agree with all those nodes. Really unique and also easy going
Watch this video a while back and you sold me on this plant. For some reason it's been harder to find a plain green one then a variegated one that I'm not willing to pay extra for considering it's so unstable. Well today I found a thick bushy mutant green one for $20 in a 6-inch pot and immediately referred back to this video! Normally I don't do this but I even told him at the little independent plant store I got it from that this poor thing is going to be getting surgery as soon as it gets home LOL! Some for me some for Mom some for my sisters! LOL
My burle Marx wasn't doing well until I put it outside this last summer it became super bushy. I've recently got a small variegated cutting I hope it does as well as the green.
These things grow enormous. Took a cutting from my grandfather's place that made 3 separate medium plants and his absolute monster of a plant pretty much looked the same after I chopped it.
I stole a cutting from my buddy’s backyard in Miami. With so many nodes and growth points I didn’t know where to cut it 😂. It’s hardy too. It survived living in a wine glass for a few days, TSA, and a flight in my carry-on.
I was thinking mine must have been pruned a lot before selling it at Home Depot. It's just a cluster of growth points. I didn't have mine long enough to figure out the growth patterns but from what I see out there it splits in many branches and it's bushy.
I'm studying horticultural management on uni and i'm reading up on plant hormones right now and when reading about cytokinins i was immediately reminded of this video. My book (Plant propagation. Principles and practices. Hartmann & Kester) says that transgenic plants that overexpress the gene 'ipt', show increased levels of cytokinins and thereby show a growth pattern of reduced height(i guess short internodes), increased lateral branching and reduced chlorophyll destruction (deep green color). So i was reminded of this crazy plant and the short internodes and crazy growth pattern. It would be cool to do some research if this guy does, in fact, have this ipt gene :)
Mine isn't as compact as these ones, but it's still just as crazy , I like to compare the growth pattern to coral, it looks like it's from another world 😊
It’s strange because my Burle Marx doesn’t have as much growth points and it isn’t that compact. I’ve always given it plenty of light but it tends to grow upwards and each leaf is somewhat spaced out
My variegated has been doing better then my green. Ended up killingthe original plant but I get enough reverting in my variegated I dot worry. Just snip and prop. Great plant and can tolerate a lot of light
i have one of these, got it as a cutting from a friend and i've kept it in water, but it somehow still grows crazy roots and new leaves even in just water (no liquid fertilizer or anything). i've decided to keep it there for now as opposed to moving it to soil because its rapid growth scares me LOL
But where do I cut it? I got one without knowing .... that... it's going green and the internet keeps saying: cut back to the last variegation... and I am here like... "If you saw what I'm seeing...."
This plant isn't a GMO plant is it? I'm curious though, would someone be willing to send me a cutting or small potting? I would love to see how it grows.
Philodendron selloum, usually sold as “Hope,” and its close relative, sold as Xanadu, also can be found exhibiting the same intense crowded growth habit. There are probably many more. It is possibly the result of heavy grower fertilization and optimal growing conditions. 😺✌️
I am too old for this stuff. I have this capsicum, Purple Tiger aka Trifetti. It has leaves with white, purple, bright green, green and a bit black, if in full sun. Oh maybe some shades of white going into the cream/yellow. My eyes are CONFUSED!!! And why do you call something with 7 colored leaved TRI--fetti?!
My green Burle Marx is a beast. It’s grown so big it’s out of control. My variegated one is very slow growing but it’s so pretty. I’m enjoying watching them grow.
Yeah I can't believe how awesome they are!

Lovely have it the green ones
nice! they grow so fast!
Can’t believe this went up just as I’m trying my hardest to save my crappy cutting 😭
I hope yours survives!
Good luck!!

thanks for this post. reminds me to repot my variegated Burle Marx
Nice! Enjoy

As a landscape architect this was a must have plant in my collection
Watch "Crime pays botany doesn't" videos called "How to kill your lawn". Less grass more cool plants. YOU can do good!
I can imagine with its bushy growth
Love growing in on my aquariums... Excellent plants for beginner aquariums.
interesting, i have aquariums so ill chuck some in

I gotta try making it climb!
I just ordered a cutting from a small shop. I’m so excited to watch it grow.
Good luck!

I gotta try a pole!
Yes mine is growing crazy like this too , you can really propagate easily !
yeah i cant wait to start chopping!
@@TechplantChannel the hardest part is figuring out where to chop since there’s growth everywhere 😂
It is a crazy growing plant! I have one that’s grown long and it’s challenging to train or manage on a pole.
I have yet to try a pole but I want to
I also love mine. Its variegated with a lot of green leaves as well. Thinking of trimming it down but agree with all those nodes. Really unique and also easy going
Yeah it tolerates dry as a bone soil and wet soil easily
Such an epic plant
Yeah it's wild!
Thank you for sharing have a blessed day beautiful plants
Mine is wild too and when a green life come out i chop it out i sold a big cutting with lots of roots for 40 buck
I gotta start cutting mine up!

Love the video cool plant
Thank you! Cheers!

My lemon lime philo (the upright type) grows like this too, it's wild!
Very cool!
I was thinking mine must have been pruned a lot before selling it at Home Depot. It's just a cluster of growth points. I didn't have mine long enough to figure out the growth patterns but from what I see out there it splits in many branches and it's bushy.
yeah its just a wild child and grows so much
Hey ... I saw a mealy bug near the base of your philo at @4:27. 😬

oh hey i have this one it does really well!! it looks really wierd (mine is quite a bit taller but still has the whacky nodes)
nice, Im hammering it with light so maybe thats why its short and busy, i will stick one in a darker area and see if i get a diff style of growth
When is the propagation video coming ?
I'll be chopping soon
My philodendron shang ri la is kinda growing similarly to this.
Has any one gotten transparent leaves out of your butler max?
I havent, that sounds cool tho
Pls review Philo Wend-imbe too which has the same growth pattern
Time to find me one 😁
They are pretty easy to source now good luck!
that plant intimidates me.
Me too I'm waiting for it to take over the whole basement
It’s strange because my Burle Marx doesn’t have as much growth points and it isn’t that compact. I’ve always given it plenty of light but it tends to grow upwards and each leaf is somewhat spaced out
Interesting I wonder what influences its growth patterns
My variegated has been doing better then my green. Ended up killingthe original plant but I get enough reverting in my variegated I dot worry. Just snip and prop. Great plant and can tolerate a lot of light
Burlemarx have similar plant growth with Philodendron temptation and Philodendron squamiferum
I gotta look into them

It's like every P. Burle Marx is a crested plant.
Yeah for real!
The rat king!
Lol
Mine is growing tall though not getting the spherical growth as much
I was hammering it will light so maybe that's why. I should experiment
@@TechplantChannel make sure you get it on video lol
You were talking about a crested succulent. 😉

😺✌️
We need another giant pothos update please!!!!!
I will try and get one going in 2 weeks. I filmed something and it needs time to grow for a better video

Lol
This growth pattern is from it being a tissue cultured plant. It wouldn't look like this on the mother plant.
Philodendron wend imbe does that too.
POZDRAWIAM 👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪😊😊
lol
