The white princess, knight and wizard have the same growth pattern; they are climbers. Self-head philos had short and thick stems with minute internodes, the stem is only visible after the oldest leaves abscise. Officially they are known as arborescent types.

hi Memo. Believe the white knight has got reddish/brown petioles with white stripe through them, and the white wizard is has green. Thought I had the white wizard but can’t seem to find it 😂 got the Pink princess which drives me nuts with those janky leaves she puts out, finally got her on moss pole so 🤞💚

Hi, if you put a White Wizard and a White Knight next to each other the difference is obvious. The White Wizard has green stems/petioles with white stripes, while the White Knight has reddish stems. My White Wizard has attached itself very well to a moss pole. But its variegation is a bit haphazard, some of the leaves have sort of dirty brown (not crispy) smudges, and like in a previous comment, from time to time it pushes out a completely green leaf. It is growing well, and the leaves are getting bigger as it climbs up the pole.

I went to my local garden centre (in Belgium) for the first time in a couple of years today and got so lucky! An established PWP for €13, a good sized monstera albo for €40 and a mottled syngonium (unnamed) for €10! All with very good varigations too. I'm chuffed to bits!

I’m so happy with my white princess. I snubbed it a lot and then I found a really cheap tricolour, it’s been doing awesome in room humity, went through a breakup with me so I neglected it a lot and it’s still going great! Just pushed out some more pink 🌸

Aloha Memo, thanks for putting out this video. Very timely for me, as I’ve just received two small juvenile Knights, & two small juvenile Wizards. Right now they all look similar, but hopefully in six months they’ll start to show differences, & start their journey climbing moss poles. Mahalo……
Hey Al 👋👋👋👋 of course not a problem at all, yeah hopefully when thy all start maturing you should be able to see a difference between them for sure, even if it is mainly on the petiole (as far as I am aware)

Hi Memo. Loved the content of this video. I have both the PPP & the PWP. I assumed they were the same, but absolutely not! The PWP is much faster and bushier than the PPP, and in general just an easier plant

thanks for your video. I have all three of them or perhaps I should say all four, as there is the punk princess as well. My first one was the white princess which I still love the most of them. The wgite knight turned out to be more gangly land I think I will cut it in spring and plant the mother together with the cutting. I did that with the pink princess before, and she looks much nicer this way. The whit eizard was the third that I bought, and he was a baby plant. He is really nice and grows well.

Hi, Loving all your info on these plants. I just got 3 white wizards from Orange Lake Nursery in Florida, USA. The description said the plant was a vine. Don't know if that's true yet as the plants are still tiny like your's is. I hope so though, moss poles intimidate me.
I got the white knight in autumn because I like the red on the petioles. It's small and I hope it will grow bigger this summer.

I have a philodendron white princess and she is a little wired. She has multiple growing points and activates new shoots where leaves have already come out. So she looks very bushy but I love her. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had that happen to them? And should I give it a moss pole or just let it do her thing?

The white princess is SUCH a fast grower compared to the pink princess and much hardier. I knocked a new leaf off my PWP and it activated SIX new growth points within a month! It's a fairly small plant so i didn't expect that at all. Not all of the leaves survived, but it seems to be happy now. If i did that with my PPP - it might put out a tiny leaf six months later 😂

Totally off subject, my apologies, but while I’m thinking of it…I would love a video speaking about how you set up your conservatory and what all was involved. I’d love to do something like that myself and am in a somewhat similar climate as you (Northeast USA).

Hey Kristina, of course not a problem at all, I actually have done a video on my conservatory set up specifically in the past, you should be able to find it on my channel, I think I added it to the plant room tour playlist. I hope that helps and good luck on your build, our climates can be challenging at times, but going into it knowing what to expect will definitely help. I think I go over both the highs and the lows in the video, albeit in a bit of a frenetic way, but it should help 😅💚🌿

I have a White Knight and it is a climber. I'm not so happy with it. Don't get me wrong, it has beautiful burgundy stems (the stems is why I chose this one and not the other two. I really love the colour and how it pops against the dark green) and the red tends to bleed into the leaves and gives three coloured leaves. It's so so beautiful. But I'm just not into the look of climbing philodendron. I like the self-heading much more. They are so bushy and pretty.
Otherwise it is a wonderful plant. Variegation is funny with this one, because every other leaf has a lot of variegation. It seems like it keeps itself alive by producing a very green leave (with minimal flecks of white) every other time.
Also it doesn't grow extremely fast, but I also got it as a baby plant. I have had it since July and it put out 7 leaves since then. It's sitting in an east-facing window. I get about one leaf per month

Yeah I think the Wizard has great potential, mine is still tiny but I have high hopes and also kinda glad a lot of people are leaning that way, everyone at some point wanted the knight but my heart was always with the Wizard 😅💚🌿
I don’t think the PPP is getting better “genetic” over all. Yes, we are selecting better variegation, but the over all improvements are because the price has crashed so hard that the low grade propagate are simple not sellable anymore, so they went to the compost bin instead on the market.
For plant with unstable variegation, I find it weird that the plant community seem like to use the word “genetic” very loosely. Unlike a golden pothos or sanguinea trio star that spontaneously create variegation that’s controlled by the genetic of the plant, a Mostrera albo’s variegation are created by random chimera of parasitic cells that lost ability to produce cells with chlorophyll. The albo don’t and can’t control when and where to variegate. So it’s pretty inaccurate to use the word “genetic” to describe the pattern of variegation.
Hey North Liu 👋👋👋👋 yeah I think you are completely right on the PPP the genetics haven't gotten better, I think it is exactly as you describe it more plants with better variegation are being selected for sure.
You are also right when it comes to the word genetic and describing variegation most of the time it is now controlled especially when looking at chimeric variegation like the Monstera Albo.
I have gotten "something" I think is mislabeled... it's labeled white knight but has dark redish/ greenish with white lines.... HELP 🤣🤣

May I say your point on genetic doesnt make sense? Most of our fancy plants are cuttings or TC propagate of one single seedling or sport. They can't have different genetics, all White Princesses are basically one single individual.
It’s all from TC, but genetics are different even if it’s coming from the same mother. Random mutations occur all the time to all the cells within an organism. If it occurs the meristematic tissue, and that tissue is used to TC then there would be a genetic difference despite we consider stem/TC propagation cloning. I would also imagine that all the chemicals used in TC could be mutagentic as well, so plants what went through different rounds of TC could very well be genetically different. Epipremnum aureum (golden, neon, marble queen and n’joy pothos) don’t flower even in the best conditions. All varieties we have are not produced by crossing different individuals, but from selecting and propagating mutated stems.
@@northliu1196 not at that scale, other hidden parameters should play first: viral infection, low nutrient storage, hormone shortage from TC inballance etc.
